Watch Gordon Hayward Suffer the Most Gruesome Injury Since Paul George, Out Indefinitely

Gordon Hayward may be out indefinitely after breaking his foot

Gordon Hayward was one of the major pieces the Celtics acquired in the offseason, the other one being Kyrie Irving.  The two all-stars are expected to carry the team to the playoffs and eventually to a final match against the Cleveland Cavaliers but that went dim in just after 5 minutes of play as Gordon Hayward suffered one of the most gruesome injuries since Paul George broke his leg.
Injuries are a part of the life of the players and while certainly none of us wants to see these types of things, it could be one of the worst enemies of everyone.
Boston Celtics let go of injured Isaiah Thomas for Kyrie Irving but luck did not smile back with the team as Gordon Hayward may be out for good.
Hayward played for 5:15 minutes made 2 points (1/2) and grabbed one board.

By the Numbers: Ginebra’s Tinyente Producing Useful Numbers Despite Being Injured

His sacrifices are paying off as the Gin Kings moved closer to title after Game 2

LA Tenorio has been playing through pain during the entire Governors’ Cup. (Photo by the PBA Media Bureau)

Like him or hate him, Lewis Alfred Tenorio deserves a drop of your praise, regardless of which team you are rooting for. Why? In case you are not familiar, if Tenorio looks healthy to you because he has been vital to the success that the defending champions who are 2 wins away from another Governors’ Cup championship, think again. The truth is, Tenorio has been playing all conference long with a problematic elbow which has occasionally hurt his performance but not his desire to play, never his heart to win. In fact, Tinyente had the choice to undergo a surgery but decided to wait until the end of the current conference- a decision he made during the 3-week break back in August.
There’s no doubt in every Ginebra fan that it was LA Tenorio’s 3-point basket with 67 seconds left in Game 2 that took the life out of the Meralco Bolts as part of the Gin Kings’ 17-1 fourth-quarter run. 5 of those 17 points in the dying minutes of the game came from the hurting Tenorio who even joked he prayed for a divine intervention when he took that long-distance shot with barely 2 seconds left on the shot clock. Swish! Fortunately for Tenorio, fortunately for Ginebra, the basketball gods answered their prayers and lett the shot hit its target.
Now, in case you need a reminder of how Tenorio performed during the first two games of the best-of-7 series, below are the numbers:

12 Points per Game

Despite his elbow problem, Tenorio has been able to score in double-digits in both games, averaging 12 points per game while making 35% of his attempts including 40% from deep. From a personal perspective, this basketball pundit on wheels thinks that 35% shooting of Tenorio is acceptable than the 3-point shooting percentage of the entire Meralco Bolts because, at the very least, Tenorio is making the most out of his attempts while the Bolts are engaged in a brick shooting spree.

3 Assists per Game

LA Tenorio is first and foremost, one of the best floor generals and playmakers that the league has ever seen in its entire existence. Playing in the Finals is no longer new to him and despite his injury, he dished out 5 dimes in the series opener en route to a dominant win by the Gin Kings.
That number diminished to a single assist in Game 2 and part of that was the fact that the rest of the team were either well-defended or having an off-night. But that 1 assist that he had last Sunday doesn’t take anything from Tenorio at all because we all know that he can create scoring opportunities for his teammates. It’s now up to his teammates to finish the plays off those nice passes from Tinyente.

Conclusion:

Playing through pain, leading his team to victory, these are the things that Ginebra should appreciate of LA Tenorio. If anything, he continues to personify the “Never Say Die” mantra that the Gin Kings have been loved and hated for. Tenorio even joked that he might have missed the last 3-pointer in Game 2 had he was healthy.
At the end of the day, Tenorio will be a vital piece to Ginebra’s offense because he is Tim Cone’s extension on the court that’s why the Gin Kings should be thankful that the former decided to wait until the end of the season before dealing with his injury.
Regardless if healthy or not, Lewis Alfred Tenorio is one guy you should take seriously. In a game of basketball, size doesn’t matter. Heart does.

A Wheeler’s Opinion: 3 Reasons to be Excited for the New NBA Season

The NBA is more than just about the GSW-Cavs storyline

Will this new Big 3 find a way to work together and bring home a title to Oklahoma?

The 2017-2018 NBA season is about to make every pair of eyes of every NBA fan stuck to their TV, computer monitors and even their mobile devices as it officially opens tomorrow (Manila time) beginning with the rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference Finals match-up between the Cleveland Cavaliers going up against the Boston Celtics. Oh and don’t forget folks. Chris Paul and James Harden will get the honor of trying to hand the Golden State Warriors when the revamped Houston Rockets open their season against the defending champions of Stephen Curry and company.
While almost NBA fan is complaining that this upcoming season will be boring as the Cavs and the Warriors are heavily favored to go head-to-head come the Finals in June of 2018- one thing that even this basketball pundit on wheels certainly believes, take away the Warriors and the Cavs and we still 14 more teams to watch out for. 14 stories to follow. 14 adventures to be excited about. Let’s skip the prediction as to who will win the NBA title this season because we already have an idea as which team will that be, right, Warriors fans?
Below are the 3 reasons why NBA fans should be excited about the 2017-2018 season despite the inevitability that one team will dominate the season, again:

All Western Guns are Pointing towards Oakland

Russell Westbrook has Carmelo Anthony AND Paul George as his new teammates in Oklahoma. Chris Paul has joined James Harden in what is expected by many to become one of the most exciting backcourt tandems in history. LaMarcus Aldridge has recently signed a contract extension to remain with the San Antonio Spurs for the next 3 seasons. Even the Minnesota Timberwolves have formed a Big 3 of their own with Karl Anthony Towns, Nikoli Pekovic and Jimmy Butler.
All these teams in the Western Conference have reloaded themselves for one goal: to dethrone the Golden State Warriors who have been consistently dominating the West for all of the 3 previous seasons. And counting. If anything, we should definitely be excited as to how the new Big 3 in Oklahoma will work together because Westbrook, George and Anthony are proven scorers and the question that is nagging in everyone’s mind is: who will the main Alpha in Oklahoma?

The Kyrie Irving-LeBron James Rivalry

Since Kyrie Irving demanded a trade from the front office of Cleveland during the busy off-season, a demand that was granted and forever shook the balance in the East, to say the least, it was already the beginning of a brewing rivalry between brothers turned rivals, Kyrie Irving and the King himself, LeBron James.
Apparently, the reason why Irving wanted himself out of Cleveland was that he didn’t want to play alongside LeBron- a partnership that produced 3 consecutive Finals appearances and a championship in 2016. Tomorrow’s game between the Cavs and the Celtics will serve as the opening chapter in this rivalry and this basketball pundit on wheels will be keeping a close eye on the performance of both guys, particularly of Irving if he can indeed, play AND win without LeBron James.

The New Format for the All-Star Game

The battle between the East against the West is no more. The NBA along with the Players Association has announced earlier this month that the All-Star Game will have a different format. Starters will still be voted by fans but the difference is this; each team will have a captain. Each captain will draft their respective starters and reserves from the pool of players that are voted by fans to participate in the mid-season festivity.
Why is the new All-Star game format exciting? Team captains can select any player he desires, regardless of from which team and conference that the players are playing for. So imagine LeBron James forming a super team with his super friends: namely Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony along with Dwayne Wade. How about Steph  Curry bringing along his 3 friends from Golden State along with Anthony Davis?
The possibilities are unlimited. This could be where super teams of the future will be built from here on. Exciting, isn’t it?

Video: ESPN the Worldwide Leader in Sports is Roaring Back to the Philippines, Partners with TV 5

ESPN and TV 5 Partners to form ESPN 5 in the Philippines.

ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports is venturing back to the Philippines and this time they are partnering with TV 5.

I first learned about the news when I saw the live stream of TV 5 on Facebook during the recent Digicon event in the Philippines. Chot Reyes was speaking in front of the delegates as he announced the big news while taking off his jacket and revealing the logo of ESPN printed beside TV 5 printed on his shirt.
As a sports fan and a blogger, I know that this would be really big for Filipino sports communities.
Excited as ever, I had to post the news and share it with my social media network.

https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpowcast%2Fposts%2F1579790982079633&width=500

The move will bring great and new sports contents to the Philippines including the American favorite NFL, NCAA, X-Games, Indy racings and a lot more. We also heard that they will be producing the Philippine version of the ESPN Sportscenter.
Current sports programming of TV 5 like the PBA, PSL and the Gilas games will now be under ESPN and we couldn’t be more excited about the news.
While Sports 5 is already doing great in their sports programming, ESPN brings global experience, expertise, and branding that would help local sporting events get more international exposure.
Surely, this is just a start and we are hoping that the partnership between the two media giants would grow even more as they continue to serve the sports fans in the Philippines.
One of the sports I am excited to really know more about is American Football or NFL, kept asking myself why all of my American friends are crazy about it.
If you are not excited about the partnership of TV 5 and ESPN yet, watch this video below.

Kobe Paras is Making a Comeback in US Basketball

After a stint back in the Philippines with the National Team, Kobe Paras is back in the US to pursue his NBA dream.

At 20 years old, Kobe Paras has been through ups and downs and have gone through a lot of basketball adversity, although you can say that his Philippine basketball career may already be definite as he shows athleticism and basketball skills at a young age.
However, this young man wants to be in the NBA.
This year, Kobe Paras led the Philippines to the (SEABA) South East Asian Basketball Tournament and won a gold and has been getting a lot of exposures in international basketball playing alongside Filipino veterans and going up against international players.
Now back in the US, he is looking to pick up what he had already started but this time he will be playing under Coach Reggie Theus, a former NBA All-star and the current head coach of  California State University Northridge Matadors.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js Kobe Paras’ journey in the US started really well with Cathedral High School but it went downhill with Creighton in college as he was unable to secure playing time with the team. Now with his new team, Kobe Paras might be able to get the opportunity that he never got with Creighton.

Glen Rice Jr’s Basketball Journey: The Ugly Past and the Unclear Future

Glen Rice last photo as he exits the Araneta Coliseum in his final game. ( Scored 2 points)

At 26 years old, Glen Rice Jr is still young and could still accomplish a lot in the game of basketball.

Three months ago, when TNT tapped the service of the son of the legendary NBA player Glen Rice, the Talk n Text management had great expectations as he is well known for his athleticism and scoring prowess. Glen Rice Jr. was expected to bring the KaTropa to new heights in the last conference of the 2017 PBA Season.
Before joining PBA in the Philippines, Glen Rice played for the Washington Wizards in the NBA but that stint did not last long as he was not given enough opportunity and only averaged 2.7 points and with less than 10 minutes of playing time. While he had some moments, it wasn’t enough for the Wizards to keep him as a regular part of the roster.
Glen Rice had his best years playing in the NBA D League in 2013 to 2014 season as he averaged as high as 17 points per game. Surely, he’s got some talent but what’s stopping Glen Rice Jr from accomplishing his dreams?

Wikipedia’s description of Glen Rice Jr.

Rice is the son of Glen Rice Sr. and Tracey Starwood. Glen Rice Sr. was the all-time leading scorer for Michigan who led the 1988–89 Wolverines to the National Championship, played 15 seasons in the NBA, and was a member of the 1999–2000 Los Angeles Lakers championship team. Rice has a younger brother name G’mitri. On October 25, 2015, Rice was shot in the leg at an Atlanta restaurant and was later charged with reckless conduct and possession of 240.4 grams (0.53 lb) marijuana. In December 2015, he appeared in season 8 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. On July 28, 2016, Rice was arrested for battery

July he was arrested for battery. In August, he was on his way to the Philippines.

Glen Rice Jr has been given another chance, not by the NBA but the Philippine Basketball Association, the premier basketball league in the Philippines. This opportunity could be really big for the young Rice as most of the imports in the Philippines are given the opportunity to be leaders and be the primary options of the team. An automatic stardom in the Philippines, as imports are usually revered and advertised as the main man for each team.
Glen Rice did not disappoint as he showcased his talents and was able to bring his team to the second place in the elimination round and the semi-finals. He was also responsible for a few game winning shots and more often the highest scorer of the team. He can easily score 30 points at any given night.
Yes, winning a championship could have been the perfect ending but a semi-finals appearance and a second place finish is not as bad and will still look good on Glen Rice Jr.’s resume, especially as he was one of the main reasons why TNT is a good team in the conference.

Rice Spoiled his Philippine Adventure

Unfortunately, as much as we like Rice in the Philippines, he ended his stint in the PBA by spoiling all of his efforts and by acting very unprofessional in his last game, which was also the most critical of all the games he played in the Philippines. Leading the first quarter by a large number, his team was on its way to a potential grudge match but an unfortunate incident changed it all when Glen Rice Jr. lost his composure and threw the ball against his defender. Glen Rice was so furious at that instant and could not be stopped as he tried to engage the other teams into a potential altercation.
Glen Rice Jr was effectively thrown out of the game and what will be his last game in the PBA and maybe in the Philippines.  Throwing the ball against your defender would merit an automatic ejection according to the rulebook of the PBA.  Glen Rice was fined 26,000 pesos by the league and was also fined 10,000 US dollars by his own team for unsportsmanlike and unprofessional conduct that not only affected the outcome of the game but also the image of PLDT Group of companies, the mother company of Talk and Text.

From Top to the Bottom, Glen Rice flies back to the US

His father who recently visited the Philippines this same year left us with good memories but the son who carried his name may have left with a different story.
Glen Rice Jr., we wish you the best of luck on your next basketball journey and we hope you can get your act together soon.

Prediction: Game 3 Ginebra vs TNT and the 8 Ways to win Tonight’s Ball Game

Will TNT Explode or Will Ginebra Play Inspired Basketball?

The series’ balance is on the line tonight

Pivotal Game 3 and the winner tonight could potentially be the team who will advance to face the Meralco Bolts in the 2017 PBA Governors Cup.
Actually, a win tonight does not give you a guaranteed ticket to the finals but it certainly provides a much-needed confidence boost, momentum, and cushion and both teams know how critical it is to be back against the wall against each other. The 2017 PBA Governors Cup Semi-finals is a best of 5 series and getting ahead at this stage where both teams got one win each will be paramount, but what will it take for both teams to win game 3?

1. Get hot early, win quarter 1 and 3.

In the first two games, the team that starts well ends up being the winner. Coincidentally, both teams scored an identical 31 points in the first quarter in the first two games. Ginebra in the first game and TNT in the second. Setting up the mood of the game from the start of each half turned out to be one of the deciding factors.

2. Get to the century mark

The team that doesn’t score over 100 points lost the game in their first two meetings. TNT Scored 94 points in the first game and Ginebra scored 96.  A score beyond one hundred maybe one of the keys to the game, especially if you consider our first key which is to get hot early and score more than 30 points in the first half.

3. Important imports but Local needs to be vocal, magic number 21

Justin Brownlee and Glen Rice Jr are certainly the main men for each team that carries the scoring burden and while they have done exceptionally well for their team,  Game 1 and 2 had a magic number for both imports that can is against coincidental.  Brownlee scored 21 in the first game and Glen Rice did the same for the second and both got the wins.  Both imports actually scored more than 21 points in a losing effort so it isn’t exactly import scoring that made the difference. As it is a given already that their imports are effective, it is really the locals who need to step up their game.

4. Keeping it steady for Castro

First game: 16 points, 50% FG, 2 Three pointers, 7 Assists, 3 steals, 6 turnovers
Second Game: 20 points, 43% FG, 3 Three pointers, 10 Assists, 1 Steal, 4 Turnovers
The stats above is that of the primary point guard of TNT and he has been steady throughout the series and tonight cannot be any different for the Blur as he needs to continue to produce both in points and an assist to give their team a chance of winning game 3. It would be nice if he can also lower down the number of turnovers.
5. Yo Joe! What happened to Devance in the second game?
Playing 26 minutes, draining 4 three-pointers and producing a total of 19 points that was the production of Joe in the first game. In the second game, he was given more playing time at 29 minutes but his performance disappeared with zero from the arc and only 4 points. We knew that Devance was one of the difference makers of the game and in game 2 he was shut down by the overwhelming defense of TNT. Joe needs to go GI on game three to give his team a chance of winning tonight!

6. Shoot better and you can be assured of the win…not really?

Barangay Ginebra has done better than TNT in both games but it did not necessarily translate into a win, so what was it really?  Defense wins the game! While not all the defensive stats are being counted and there are no points in hustle plays, it certainly made the difference for both teams, especially in a high stakes game. The team that turns the ball over in each game lost the game though.

7. Sharing means winning.

First game, 33 assists for Ginebra vs 15 for TNT. Second game, 26 assists for TNT against 20 for Ginebra. Need I say more? The more you share, the more chances of winning. Obviously, both teams would have adjusted their defense by now and all of those expected scorers will be marked down in red underlines so finding an open man would be critical tonight.

8. Benchwarmers needs to be hot

The team with more bench points wins the game. Basketball is a team game and while we have already stressed the importance of sharing, we also want to emphasize the value of the bench. Stats don’t lie and benchwarmers should be ready when their number is called to contribute in any way possible.
Conclusion
It is always hard to give a prediction but the wind will be leaning towards the team who will win the first quarter scoring. If Joe Devance shows up tonight then Ginebra would get a big boost and potentially win but if Talk n Text can defend well early then it would be a different story.

Jenel Lausa’s Next Fight in the UFC Confirmed!

Jenel Lausa vs Eric Shelton in Sydney on November 19, 2017

A win against each other will change the course of their early UFC Career.

The native of Iloilo and one of the few Pinoy UFC fighters active right now secured his next fight after the scheduled bout against the last and the only conqueror of another Pinoy UFC Fighter CJ De Tomas got Injured. Naoki Inoue and Jenel was scheduled to fight in September but was scrapped due to injury.
Today, Jenel Lausa officially announced on his social media account that he will be facing American from Davenport, Iowa in the undercard for Marcin Tybura and Mark Hunt on November 19, 2017, in Sydney, Australia.
Jenel who last fought on April 8 suffered his only defeat in the UFC against Undefeated prospect from Russia (14-0), Magomed Bibulatov. Lausa, who is looking to get back into the winning column currently have a 1W and 1L record in the UFC, however, his total MMA record is 7 wins and 3 losses.
His opponent Eric Shelton, on the other hand, is also looking for redemption as he suffered two heart-wrenching split decisions in the UFC his last two fights. Nicknamed as Showtime, he is looking to put on a show and travel half across the world in a must-win situation.
Lausa and Shelton still got a pretty decent record but both fighters know that a win against each other is a must.
Jenel Lausa thanked his wife, teammates, and friends on his social media posts while signing the UFC contract.
From our last conversation with Jenel, we know that he has been prepared and has been waiting for this call-up from the UFC. We wish Jenel Lasua well and we hope for the best!

VIDEO: Eliminated Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas Struggled Against China Kashgar, 7 Key Stats

China Does Not Need an Andre Blatche, But we do

The Philippine Team struggled all game long as they trail three of the four quarters of the game en route to being eliminated in the series with the score of 86 – 70.
It was difficult to watch two basketball games last night as Meralco Bolts vs Blackwater had their knockout QF game and Chooks To Go Pilipinas faced China but my experience may not be as hard as what are boys had against the Blatch-less China Kashgar who controlled the game.
The Philippine has an up and down performance in the tournament and unfortunately, these type tournament does not allow inconsistencies. Our young boys got extinguish in the tournament but hopefully, they have acquired the much-needed experience in an international game.
Key Stats and Figure of the Game
1 . GREAT SHOOTING FOR CHINA: 50% FG Percentage of China against a measly 37% of the Philippines. Against China, this poor shooting almost guarantees a loss.

2. CHINA SHARED THE BALL: 17 Assist against 9 of the Philippines, clearly, the Philippines had issue executing their play and playing as a cohesive unit. Lack of preparation and familiarity is the reason as the team was never supposed to be in the tournament in the first place.

3. DOMINATION OF CHINA: 38.27 Minutes and 21 points, These are the number of time that they are in the lead in a 40-minute game and the highest lead they got. Truly, the Philippine teams were disheartened in a way as they could not find any way to even get a single lead at any time in the game.
4. ANDRAY BLATCHE > ISAIAH AUSTIN: Socred 16 points on 5 out of 12 shooting. Not the kind of performance we need from an import in a knockout game. Andray Blatche would have done more. The defense also played a big factor as they have denied entry pass to the big man all game long.
5. KIEFER SHOW: No one else but Kiefer was playing well, Cruz, Torres, Teng Brother all had a bad game.
6. DEFENSE: The Philippines defense was just like a 7/Eleven convenience store. It’s open 24 hours and the gunner of China was just knocking almost every shot, including the dreaded three’s that killed the Philippines.
7. THREE POINTS: 14 Threes on 40% shooting for China while the Philippine was only able to get 5 from the rainbow land.
Ultimately China was just the better and the more prepared team than the Philippines and while our hopes were high, we were not expecting anything from our young cadets, after all, it is not the best National team.
Although we will not go home the winner of the tournament, the stint may have served some of its purposes as we try to identify future players and import. This should give the national team management some idea of the players and of course Isaiah Austin.

Japeth Aguilar’s Father has Spoken About Heated Verbal Exchange with Gabby Espinas

Heated Exchange of Japeth Aguilar and Gabby Espinas is just normal in a high stake game

The players have spoken but the alleged instigator of the situation has kept mum until now.

The Final score last night was 104 -84 in favor of Ginebra. They will now advance to the 2017 PBA Governors Cup Semi-finals against the winner of Rain or Shine vs Talk n Text.
The final score was a surprise as a great team like SMB was expected to put up a better fight but instead fell down hard against an outstanding Ginebra team that played a perfect against Grand Slam-chasing SMB. The storyline was as dramatic as the game, players from both sides played hard and emotions were high. Which leads to a heated incident that happened in the dying minutes of the third quarter.
Gabby Espinas was called into action early in the 3rd quarter as the Beermen tries to find the right mix of players to counter a resilient attack of Ginebra. Espinas is known for his hard nose physicality and has been a reliable off the bench contributor for SMB on defense and in some cases also in offense.
The game between sister companies peaked to a boiling point after Gabby Espinas committed a hard foul against Justin Brownlee that sent hard-working import reeling to the ground. This is when the father of Japeth Aguilar reacted verbally that was overheard by Gabby Espinas, who verbally responded back.
In a recent interview, Gabby Espinas Espinas told reporters that he thought, Peter Aguilar the father of Ginebra star power forward was cursing him and that is what prompted him to fire back.  He also noted that it was a high stake game and it is normal that the level of defense is much more intense. He added that Peter should understand the situation as he was a former player and could have easily identified if I was doing it deliberately or not.
Japeth Aguilar, who was close to the action as it happened saw the exchange between his father and Gabby and his immediate reaction was to come to the rescue and defend his dad.
Japeth in a post-game interview said that it was a spur of the moment and a natural reaction. It’s a family thing and it is normal for two highly competitive and hard-working players. He added that he got nothing against Gabby Espinas.
The incident cost both players a technical foul and even coach Tim Cone got one for entering the basketball court. The referee was able to control the incident right away and put order to the game.
Today, Peter wants to clear the smoke as he posts a message about the incident on social media.
Peter Aguilar on Gabby Espinas
Peter Aguilar to his defense posted on social media that he never really cursed at Gabby Espinas and what he said was  (Nananakit na lang yan), he is just hurting players.
Regardless however of what have been said and done. The rivalry between players should be over at least right now. The sister company should reunite and support each other.

Just to add, Gabby Espinas mentioned that he does not want to talk anymore as he also have kids and understand how Peter Aguilar felt at the time. He also wishes the Ginebra team well and hopes that they win the Governors Cup championship this year.
We want to congratulate both players for acting like a professionals and putting this little incident behind them.

The Analytics: Ginebra’s Win Against SMB By The Numbers

Just how good the Gin Kings were last night?

At one point, there were three Ginebra players bothering MVP candidate Fajardo. (Photo by the PBA Media Bureau)
While there’s no denying the fact that the San Miguel Beermen, a team whose Grand Slam aspiration was crushed to the final piece last night, is still among the elite teams in the league thanks to having the best starting unit that was ever assembled, they had no concrete answer to the way the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings played against them last night and as a result, a 104-84 victory by the Gin Kings  which booked their slot into the semifinals.
While many were shocked by the fact that the Beermen struggled offensively during the entire game, many were also quick to admit that Tim Cone’s defensive schemes especially against June Mar Fajardo, worked to perfection as Ginebra successfully limited the offensive output of the Kraken by occasionally throwing in two defenders against the big man who was forced to take difficult shots that were either blocked or miserably missed the basket. And it didn’t stop there. Even the snipers of Coach Leo Austria had a miserable shooting night which was one of the main reasons why they were blown out in the first place.

As good as the win was for Ginebra, let’s take a look at some numbers and see how these numbers contributed to Ginebra’s victory:

8 Offensive Rebounds

This was probably was of the amazing numbers that were produced last night. This, folks, was Scottie Thompson’s total number of offensive rebounds. Let this basketball pundit emphasize it again: Scottie Thompson, a guy who is only 6’1” in height, had 8 OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS and 13 in total. He was the leading rebounder last night. Even though his shots weren’t falling, he managed to find other ways to be effective and out-rebounding the big men of the Beermen allowed Thompson to pass the ball to his teammates for another scoring opportunity.  Sure, Fajardo grabbed 9 offensive rebounds but watching Thompson grabbed those 8 offensive rebounds with the big men of San Miguel around him, this guy has the “Never Say Die” mantra printed in his very soul.

9 Points in the Second Quarter for SMB

This was the total points that San Miguel scored in the whole second quarter, a far cry to Ginebra’s 22 points. To begin with, the score was actually tied at 23 apiece to start the quarter and that was when Ginebra’s defense started to bother Fajardo and company. In fact, the Beermen were held scoreless for almost 5 minutes as San Miguel’s shots were clanking or rattling out of the basket thanks to the consistency and the willingness of the Ginebra players to contest shots, even those shots that the Beermen usually make. In addition to this, that scoring drought that was endured by the Beermen allowed the Gin Kings to go on an 8-0 run which allowed them to pull away, for good.

22 Points Bench Productions

Ginebra bench players stepped up and produced 22 points during the entire game which proved essential against a San Miguel team that is known as a team who relies heavily on their starting unit. 13 of those 22 points came from the gentle giant, Greg Slaughter who also got the assignment of trying to stop his fellow Cebuano, Fajardo. Sol Mercado also came off the bench to produce the same number of points as of the entire bench of San Miguel, at 9 points.

25 Dimes

This was the number of assists that Ginebra generated in last night’s victory. As a result, the Gin Kings were able to make most of their scoring opportunities as they made 49% of their field goal attempts, most of them were inside shots such as dunks and lay-ups off crafty passes from Ginebra playmakers. Tinyente LA Tenorio had 10 of those 25 assists, two more than the combined number of assists of San Miguel’s Alex Cabagnot and Chris Ross.

Why did Dwyane Wade Sign with the Cavaliers for a Measly Contract?

After Signing Wade, Just Call them the Cavaliers All-Star

Dwyane Wade Lebron in Cavs

Dwyane Wade has reached agreement to a one-year, $2.3M deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers (via The Vertical).

Dwyane Wade joining his buddy in Cleveland Cavaliers is nothing but expected, but why does it feel like it’s still a surprise?  Maybe because we were somewhat hoping that he would follow Carmelo and continue the streak of OKC in signing superstars lately, either way, the news would still make a splash and put a dent in the NBA Universe.
Dwyane Wade at 36 years old is still considered as a top caliber basketball player.
Last year, he averaged 18 points on 43% shooting and have been a scorer all of his years in the NBA.
Recently, he made it clear that if Bulls will buy out his contract, he will only sign with the team that can compete for the Championship as well as be a significant part of the rotation, he did not, however, explain that the team should consist of a  LeBron James so that other teams would have not wasted time in convincing him for nothing.
Dwyane Wade accepted a discounted payment of only 2.3 million, same way as other veterans chasing for a ring who recently joined the team in the past and recently, one example of that is Derrick Rose.
Both players have spent some time together when LeBron James joined Dwyane Wade in Miami and now Dwyane is joining LeBron in Cleveland.
The inclusion of Wade added another all-star guard into an already stacked lineup that includes JR Smith, Kyle Korver, and Iman Shumpert.

Elorde Boxing: Glenn Suminguit Retained PH Bantamweight Belt Via Technical Decision

Jhonny Elorde Boxing Event: Suminguit and Pael Ended Abruptly

Glenn Summingit Retained PH Bantamweight Belt Via Technical Decision

September 23 at the Elorde Sports Complex, boxing enthusiast converged at the event as the grandsons of legendary boxer Flash Elorde takes the center of the ring to showcase their boxing skills against Indonesian foes. On paper, the Indonesian rivals don’t stand a chance and it was validated last night as the Elorde brothers took home the victories by knocking out each of their opponents.
The real story tonight, however, was the main event as two equally brave and talented fighters clash inside the ring for the Philippine Bantamweight Championship. On the onset of the fight, I know that we will be seeing a special fight as both fighters equally exchanged blows and neither of the fighters is backing out.
We have a fight!
Glenn Sumingit, a fighter that was born in Zamboanga and Renoel Pael from Leyte both showed grit as they went back and forth each trying to outdo and outwork each other. Suminguit had a slight edge on my scorecard as he threw more effective punches and combination but Pael, also had a moment of his own as he tagged and even pushed back Suminguit at the ropes occasionally.

Anti-Climactic ending: Suminguit Wins via Technical Decision

It was the fifth round when the fight was suddenly put to a halt. Suminguit and Pael were in the heat of the battle and they got tangled up in the corner of the ring as they exchange heavy blows when referee Danrex Tapdasan stepped in and separated the two boxers. It was the loudest the crowd has been that night as two boxers unwilling to give in but as they got separated, it also revealed a badly cut left eye of Suminguit which is trickling with blood.
The referee was forced to call the medical team and upon check-up, Suminguit suffered two cuts from above and below the left eye. With the advice of the ring physician, referee put a stop in the contest and the fight will go to the scorecard.
Atty. Aquil Tamano scores it 48-47, Danilo Lopez 49-56 and Judge Oliver Garcia scores all the round in favor of Suminguit who retains his Philippine Bantamweight championship belt.
We talked to Glenn Suminguit after the fight.
Glen mentioned that he is still willing to continue but the ring physician saw a lot of blood and they stopped the fight, If it is me, I will still continue. He follows up by saying that, he is open to fighting him again if there is an opportunity.

Breaking! Carmelo Anthony Finally Traded to OKC Thunders!

Wow! So we all thought that he will still land in Houston but apparently, he had agreed to be traded with the OKC Thunders!
Thunder will send center Enes Kanter, forward Doug McDermott and a 2018 second-round draft pick from the Chicago Bulls to the Knicks, league sources told The Vertical.
Although the trade is still not official, a lot of reliable media organizations have already reported it. Enes Kanter and Mc Dermoth are both in their mid 20’s while Carmelo is at 33 years old.
Melo has been pushing hard for a trade but the Houston scenario wasn’t really working out. It was reported earlier that he would be willing to be traded to Blazers, Cavs and OKC.
It looks like OKC won the bid and they will now banner three offensive superstars in Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony this season. Seems unfair.
Anthony expected to waive his no-trade clause on Monday and make things official.

Video Highlights: Ravena and Austin Took Charge, Delivers Chooks To Go Pilipinas First Win Against Kazakhstan

Ravena and Austin Combo Proved Lethal for the Kazakhs

Led by highly touted import Isaiah Austin and the phenom Kiefer Ravena, Chooks To Go tallies their first win against Kazakhstan in the 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Chenzhou Sports Center, Chenzhou CIty, China with the score of 73-65.
The newly formed National squad of the Philippines answered a lot of questions today as they put down their first assignment. Kiefer Ravena led all locals in minutes played at 28 mins and scoring 22 points on 53% shooting. The phenom was on target tonight.
On the other hand, BC Astana of Kazakhstan was having a bad day shooting with a team field goal of 33% compared with 40% of the Philippines.  BC Astana actually started the game well and was leading the first half with the score of 43-35, until the Philippine defense suddenly tightened and limited Astana to 22 points in the entire second half.
The 7’1 import Isiah Austin lived up to his billing scoring 17 and grabbing 18 rebounds with 6 blocks in 31 minutes of play. Jet Manuel also contributed for the Philippines with 10 points that included 2 three-pointers.  The Teng brothers were off tonight scoring combined points of 8 on 2 of 9 shooting.
The Philippines will take on Palestine Sareyyet Ramallah next (16:45).  Palestine suffered a close defeat against Thailand in the opening game.

3-Time PBA Champ Dondon Hontiveros Sounded Like he Still Wants to Play at 40

Dondon Hontiveros Plays his last game in the PBA

Tonight, the Cebuano Sharp Shooter was misfiring in his last game in the PBA. Scoring only 2 points in 21 mins in 1 of 8 shooting, Hontiveros’ hands may not be the same as it was but the 40 year old veteran who is playing his last game today with Alaska may not be so sure about calling it quits.

Tonight they lost to Rain or Shine with the score of 112- 82, as they officially bid goodbye to the conference in a losing effort with a record of 3 wins and 8 losses.  They are one of the four teams which officially got eliminated and will take their vacations early.

During the post game press conference, when he was asked what’s next it seems like he was a bit uncertain about his basketball career.

” Statistically it’s not good pero physically” – implied by Dondon

Dondon played with a total of 5 teams in a span of 17 years in the PBA. He also spent spent a year in the now defunct MBA league were he was MBA All-Star MVP and MBA Discovery of the Year. Dondon spent five years in Alaska and won one championship with them.

Marami ako natutunan, nag enjoy ako sa samahan,  Hindi ko makakalimutan yung championship – Dondon Hontiveros

Hontiveros was very thankful for another year with Alaska even though it wasn’t a successful one as Alaska has been on the losing end all year long.

Hontiveros’ best year was 2008 with San Miguel in which he averaged 14.8 points in one season. He was one of the crowd favorites and was also a member of the national team, although he was not able to win any gold during that time.

Here are some of the accolades of Dondon Hontiveros

3× PBA champion (2005 Fiesta, 2009 Fiesta, 2013 Commissioner’s)
13× PBA All-Star (2000, 2001, 2003–2011, 2015, 2017)

Photo: Chris Bolado’s Accident in Cambodia

Chris Bolado, a well-known PBA basketball player died in a motorcycle accident in Cambodia, September 18, 2017. Her friends posted a photo on Facebook announcing his death.
Bolado has been living in Cambodia in recent years to manage a business he put up in the country. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to continue the business himself as he was involved in an accident that crushed his feet and broke his bones which also eventually led to his death.
Chris Bolado is only 47 years old. He was one of the most successful players in the PBA, getting a total of 11 championships in multiple teams, he is regarded as the lucky charm during his days. His untimely death has certainly left a lot of people in shock due to this tragic incident.

The Next Naturalized Candidate Have Arrived: Isaiah Austin Thanks the People of the Philippines

The 7’1 Center from Baylor College has landed in the Philippines last night

Isaiah Austin Gilas Pilipinas

Isaiah Austin, the player who has been tapped by the national team has arrived in the Philippines.
The 23-year-old Isaiah Austin has found his next basketball journey that took him half way across the world from his hometown of Fresno, California.
Austin was one of the highly coveted college players coming into the 2014 NBA draft along side Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, Jabari Parker to name a few. He was supposed to be the next great big man in the NBA but his NBA journey was cut before it even started as he was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome and was deemed unable to play competitive basketball.
2 years after, Austin was allowed basketball activities and accepted offers to play basketball in Serbia and in China. Today, he embarks on a new journey as he accepted a new challenge in his basketball story.
If everything goes well, he could end up being the naturalized player for the Philippine National Squad which is set to compete in the upcoming FIBA Asia Champions Cup that will be held in China on September 22 to 30.
Isaiah Austin, just like Marcus Douthit and Andray Blatche would be asked to devote to a long term commitment to develop familiarity and chemistry with the national team.
Coach Chot Reyes recently said that he is looking for a young and talented guy that can help the Philippines for a long period and they might just have found him.

Isaiah Austin post on Facebook.

Looking forward to this next step of my Journey, life is a roller coaster but definitely worth the ride! Thank you to the people of the Philippines for the warm welcome! Can’t wait to get to know more about this beautiful country 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 Gilas Pilipinas Chooks-to-Go

Canelo vs Golovkin Predictions: I am going with…. Lets Watch the Fighters and Media Predictions

The boxing match of the year: Alvarez vs Golovkin

 Canelo vs Golovkin Predictions:
Canelo Alvarez ( 49W – 1L- 1D) vs Gennady Golovkin(37W- 0L- OD)

I get excited every time there is a good boxing match and I think this is the first time that I may be as thrilled as if I am watching a Manny Pacquiao fight.

Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have the right ingredients that could make up an epic fight and the boxing nation agrees. This maybe the best boxing match up of the year and we have the promoter to thank for making the fight happen now and not letting the fans wait. Oscar Dela Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions delivered as promised as both fighters are set to meet on September 16.
We are expecting the fighters to bring out the best against each other in a spectacular showdown that may have split boxing aficionados in equal half. I am a fan of both boxers and in most cases, I will usually have a definite choice on who I think would win or who I want to win but in this case, I just could not choose which side to root for.
Both fighters are special in their own ways and it’s hard to predict who would end up on top as both never faced a fighter like each other.
Gennady Golovkin at 35 years old looks stronger and more aggressive and he has shown his smashing power against every opponent he faced. Canelo, on the other hand, is in his prime at 27 and he looks like the better boxer and can win if he chooses to box with Golovkin, but that might be far from happening as Canelo himself declared in different interviews that he will try to stop Golovkin.

Both fighters want to impress the boxing world

My Prediction would be a knockout, someone is going down, my problem is, I do not know who it’s going to be.
The real winner of this fight is the fans and I can guarantee that the boxing fans will go home talking about this fight for a long time.
Let’s take a look at what other fighters, media, and fans think of the fight. Watch the Canelo vs Golovkin Predictions compilation video below.

Trade Alert: Twists and Turns, Ranidel De Ocampo Traded to two Teams in One day

Ranidel De Ocampo Traded to Phoenix Fuel Masters, then to Meralco Bolts

Trade Never Stops as PBA teams have been making one trade after another and this next one is another shocker.

The 35-year-old former 2004 number four overall pick of FedEx Express will be playing for his 3rd team. Ranidel De Ocampo spent his first four years with FedEx Express before being traded to TNT where he found success and played for 9 years.
Below are some of his achievements while playing for TNT franchise.
Ranidel De Ocampo’s Achievements:
6× PBA champion (2008–09 Philippine, 2010–11 Philippine, 2011 Commissioner’s, 2011–12 Philippine, 2012–13 Philippine, 2015 Commissioner’s)
2× PBA Finals MVP (2012–13 Philippine, 2015 Commissioner’s)
PBA Best Player of the Conference (2014 Governors’)
9× PBA All-Star (2007–2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017)
3× PBA Mythical First Team (2012–2014)
PBA Mythical Second Team (2015)
PBA All-Rookie Team (2004–05)
Source: Wikipedia
Now in his 13th season as a PBA player, De Ocampo will see himself playing for his 3rd team after being traded twice in one day.
As reported on PBA.ph,  Talk n Text traded Ranidel De Ocampo to Phoenix fuel Masters for Norbert Torres and a first round pick but that is not the end of the story for De Ocampo as Phoenix FuelMasters traded him again to Meralco Bolts for Justin Chua and a first round pick in the coming PBA draft.
Ranidel De Ocampo ended up landing with a team under the same owner as TNT so it probably won’t be that difficult for him to make adjustments. The movements that have been happening in the PBA are moves in preparation for next season.

Why did TNT Trade Ranidel De Ocampo?

For Future Draft Picks
They Believe that Norbert Torres is better at this stage of their career
To save money
RDO is past his prime
There were problems internally
RDO is old
TNT wants young players
Management has different direction
They are targeting a rookie

Pinoy UFC Fighter CJ De Tomas Shares His Inspirations, Preparations and Revelations, His Message to Local MMA Promoters

CJ De Tomas shares his experience in the UFC, preparations and his no holds barred comments to the MMA promotions in the Philippines.

The Golden Boy maybe considered as local MMA superstar in the Philippines but he had a rude awakening when he first stepped in the UFC cage. Recently getting an opportunity to fight for the top MMA promotion in the world, CJ De Tomas fell short as he battled not just his opponent but forces outside of the cage as he admits issues with his camp, family and financial burden.
Being a fighter is not easy – CJ De Tomas
CJ De Tomas opened up with Pow Salud as he gave us a quick glimpse of the challenges he had as well as the reasons why he fights. At a young age of 21, De Tomas already considered himself as a family man and will do everything for his wife and daughter.
The Golden Boy understands that the UFC is different and also calls out local MMA as he frankly shares his views on local MMA and how it should work together as a unit and not be divided.  An obviously disheartened CJ also could not hold his dismay against local MMA promoters who does not treat the fighters well and even offered a piece of advice:
“Sa mga promoters, pinaka priority nyo yung fighters, hindi mabubuhay yung promotions nyo kung wala yung mga fighters, kung hindi kayo marunong mag alaga matatalo kayo, kelangan marunong kayo mag alaga,  buti pa yung manok may premyo, sa fighter thank you lang”
