RULES AND REGULATIONS

a) Participants below 18 yrs old must have their entry form signed by parents or guardians.

b) There will be no registration on the race day itself. All participants must register & obtain their race kits during the specified schedules.

c) Race entry is non-refundable.

d) Once registration is submitted, no changes on participant’s information can be made.

e) Registration may end earlier than the announced deadline.

f) Singlets will be given to the first 3,000 registrants. There will be no guaranteed size on singlets.

RACE PROPER

1) Participants are not obliged to complete the course within a specific time. The race course will be open as long as there are still registered runners on the route.

2) Race bibs must be worn at all times during the race. Bib numbers should be pinned in front of  the running shirt.

3) All protests related to the results must be made in writing & submitted to the race organizer within 30 minutes after the official announcement of winners has been made. P3,000.00 protest fee will be charged.

4) The organizer’s decision is final.

WATER AND FIRST AID STATION

Drinking water will be provided every 1 km along the race course and at the finish line. Medical Aid will also be available along the race course and at the finish line. We strongly recommended all participants to bring their own water or energy drinks during the race.

Toilet cubicles will be available at the site on the event day.

Boxing and Puto Latik Festival = BAKBAKAN SA BIÑAN!

Annually, Biñan City, Laguna commemorates the feast of its Patron Saint  San Isidro Labrador – with their famous “Puto Latik Festival” which already on its 7th year, with this year’s theme; MAKIISA, MAKISAYA at MAKISAYAW, showcasing its world-renowned tourism and cultural products. 

This celebration will run for nine 9 consecutive days, (May 15 – 23) of fun and feasting. The committees assigned on this event have been platform a lot of activities in which people of Biñan and other tourists will surely indulge themselves in joy and amusement and will “Experience Biñan”  the way it supposed to be for it is known for having anything you need and considered as  the “City of Life” . 

One of the said activities is the “BAKBAKAN SA BIÑAN”, in which the great boxers of Biñan will compete with other boxers residing from different places in the Philippines and will prove themselves on winning the Philippine Light Flyweight title on May 22, 2017 at the Biñan City Plaza and will start from 6 in the evening onwards. 

The main bout is consist of 12 boxing rounds and will be between the Champion Lester a.k.a  “Lightning Strike” Abutan from the City of Biñan and under the Olivetti Boxing Gym, with his record of 20 boxing bouts, had won 11 times and a victory of 7 KO, with a total of 6 loss and 3 draws. With his challenger Rene a.k.a  “Mr.Nice Guy” Pataliano of Paranaque fom Elorde Boxing Gym and  who has a total of 22 fights, 16 wins and 8 by knockout, lost 3 times and a triple draw.

GAB 3rd Philippine Boxing Convention " Breaking Tradition for the Better"

GAB to award outstanding boxers other stakeholders in Davao confab

13 bouts set on May 12

“Breaking tradition for the better, the Games and Amusements board (GAB) shall recognize outstanding achievements in all aspects of boxing. Promoters, matchmakers, managers, trainers and referees shall receive awards alongside our champion boxers,” said Abraham Kahlil B. Mitra, chairman of the GAB. The GAB shall host the Third Philippine Boxing Convention in Davao City from May 11 to 13 (Thursday to Saturday).

“We designed this convention to be as comprehensive and inclusive as possible. Expected to attend are boxing stakeholders from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. We shall hold thirteen (13) bouts on May 12th, the second day of the convention,” said Commissioner Fritz Gaston. The bouts shall be held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel and seminars and meetings at the Marco Polo Hotel.

This three-day event will comprise of different seminars to be conducted by GAB’s Medical Officers, Dr. Radentor R. Viernes and Dr. Jose Rolando S. Rivera, GAB Legal Division Chief Atty. Ermar U. Benitez, WBC Ring Officials Chairman Hubert P. Minn, and International Referee Tony Weeks.

“This convention will once again bring together our friends and stakeholders in the field of professional boxing from all over the Philippines, who we consider our partners in developing and uplifting the interest of the sport of professional boxing in the Philippines.The great interest and big number of attendees prove boxing has more glory days ahead. And, in the journey to those glory days, the GAB will be its close ally,” Mitra explained.

Slated to fight are professional boxers Jake Bornea and Renerio Arizala for WBF Intercontinental Super Flyweight Championship, Ryan Lumacad and Renold Pael for ABF Super Flyweight Championship, and Roskie Cristobal and Alvin Makiling for PBF Bantamweight Championship, among others.

“The GAB has drawn a list of awardees from nominations by all stakeholders nationwide. The list underwent intensive vetting process. Kinilatis po sila ng kanilang mga kasamahan at mga naging kakompetensiya nila,” said Chairman Mitra.

Among the awardees are: former world champion Marlon “Nightmare” Tapales; former IBF world flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero, IBF world light flyweight king Jerwin Ancajas and WIBA world minimumweight world champion Gretchen Abaniel as “Boxers of the Year”.

Video: Ferlenski Boxing Rise of Heroes was a Knockout Festival

April 29, 2017, Makati – After waiting for hours, Ferlenski Boxing event finally started and boxers may have realized that it is getting late as most of them finished their bouts via knockout in the first round.

The Ferlenski Boxing event Rise of Heroes on paper may not have the greatest local boxers on the card as most of them are either just starting off or have a losing record.  Not the kind of boxing event that you usually want to go to because of the potential mismatches, but there are always good in every situation and tonight that was in action.

Each match produced drama with knockouts after knockouts that built the excitement further and the anticipation of the fans at the venue. The already sizzling venue of Makati Square Garden turned hotter as limited number of spectators sounded like thousands as they cheered their lungs out as they witnessed exhilarating action-packed matches.

Boxers are modern day heroes and the night was filled with heroes rising up to the expense of other boxers falling down. That is just the way it is tonight as it became a festivity of knockouts.

Boxers with bad records tend to fight a bit more passionate, aggressive and with full of intent as they want to turn their career around and would gamble more. As a result, you would see more heart-pounding actions and risky moves that make up a great matchup that casual fans would be entertained with and we certainly enjoyed every minute of it.

After the event, we had a brief discussion with former boxer and opponent of Manny Pacquiao, Todd Makelim. (Watch the later part of the video )

DEFTAC: the team that started the Jiu-jitsu and MMA movement in in the Philippines, Southeast Asia’s first Brazilian Jiu-jitsu team and concurrently Asia’s largest and most successful Jiu-jitsu organization, will be holding its first inter DEFTAC Jiu-jitsu tournament this Saturday, March 25th at The Palace Pool Club. The said event is entitled the 2017 DEFTAC RIBEIRO-JIU-JITSU NATIONALS and will be held in cooperation with Wrestling Association of the Philippines, IkiroFightwear, A-Game Sport Philippines, Gatorade Philippines, Lifeline Ambulance, Healthy Foodie Manila, and BAMF Mixed Martial Arts Center.

DEFTAC was established in 1996, and for more than two decades, we have successfully dominated as overall champions at every competition held in the region. Every year for the last 7 years, Team DEFTAC has reigned as Pan Asian International Overall Champions and just last year, Dumau International Open Overall Champions. DEFTAC has the distinction of producing the most National and international Champions in MMA and Jiujitsu/ Grappling in the region.

Our team is founded and home to the first home-grown Filipino black belt, our head coach Professor Alvin Aguilar, as well as 6 other home grown black belts and 20 brown belts – making us the only team in the Philippines with the over 25 highest ranking jiu-jitsu practicioners. We are also home to hundreds of National and International Jiu-jitsu champions, including Asian Open Champions our founder Alvin Aguilar and Kat Siozon; first Filipino Jiu-jitsu World Champion Maybelline Masuda and Worlds Silver Medalist, Kimberly Custodio. Both Saulo and XandeRibeiro are multiple times world champions. Alvin says he feels he never knew Jiu-jitsu until he trained with Saulo and Xande.

The team has been dubbed as the factory of champions but what sets them apart from other teams is “that we all treat each other as family, our goal is to make ourselves and everyone around us better” To date they have more 45 chapters and they have an ever increasing student base. Every chapter treats and helps each other. Everyone moves and acts in one direction. All chapters help one another especially when others visit in all areas around the Philippines. They have the distinction also of winning the largest tournament in the region (Pan-Asians) for the last six years. They decided to skip this year to prepare and mold each other better for other international competitions given they keep winning the Pan-Asians despite the adverse calls against them in the tournament.

Feb 18, Saturday Night Boxing in Makati Featuring Former Champion and Olympian

After more than a year of hiatus, the former Superflyweight Champ will be back in the ring tomorrow night against Mateo Handig who have been searching for a win since 2013. Handig’s last win was when he fought in LA Trinidad in Bengeut against Katsunari Takayama. Handig at age 27 is still young and a win against the heavily favored Drian Francisco can revitalize his career and propel him to the limelight. Handig’s record stand at 13 wins and 12 losses.

On the other hand, Drian Fancsico ( 28 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw) is also on a comeback trail after suffering a loss to one of the best Super Bantamweights in the world, Guillermo Rigondeaux. That fight was supposed to be his key to world recognition but he fell short and lost via unanimous decision last november 21, 2015.

23 year old former olympian and gold medalist at the South East Asian Games Marc Anthony Barriga will also see action as he tries to continue on a winning streak from his young professional boxing career.  Barriga will be facing 39 bouts veteran fighter in Geboi Mansalayao (replacement).

COLOR MANILA RUN Year 5: A Kaleidoscope Comes to Life

The Color Manila Run jump-started the 1^st quarter of 2017 with a vibrant event last January 8, at the SM Mall of Asia Grounds. Now on its 5^th year, thousands of registered runners were pelted with colored powder throughout the race route. The result? A color-stained shirt, tons of artsy photos, unlimited smiles, and epic memories that will last a lifetime.

Known as the most anticipated non-competitive run in the Philippines, the Color Manila Run maintains its goal to advocate a healthy and active lifestyle by adding fun to the running sport that Filipinos will surely enjoy. “I really felt the enjoyment of everybody in the event. In spite of the exhaustion, you can see the joy in their faces. It was a clear sign that Color Manila Run was successful in showing us that running can be a fun thing to do,” Dannika Rodriguez, a consultant at Misys Philippines, recounts her experience.

Runners from various categories – 3K, 5K, 10K, and 21K, – ran through the race courses where different color stations and well-propped crews await them. “It was the perfect event to start my year.” says Milo Dagami, a technical support agent at Telstra Company who just finished a 10KM distance, “The crowd (race crew) at the color stations was very nice and friendly to me. It was awesome!”  Unlike other events in which most runners go home after running, most runners stay in the race village after completing in their respective categories. The programs prepared by organizers every year are exciting and fun as the race route itself.

The highlight of the post-run programs was the Color Festival; a post-run party in which participating runners simultaneously released the colored powders in the air and danced to the beat. “I had so much fun with other runners, especially during the Color festival at the race village,” shares Brian Tan, a software quality engineer. “I guess the best part about the race was being a part of it. Unlike usual competitive races, I didn’t have to worry about my personal record. I had a good time during and after running. It was a wonderful experience all throughout.”

Aside from the creative theme of the event, the Color Manila Run boasts a lot of freebies that gave participants a bang for their bucks. These included race singlets, dri-fit shirts, unique finisher medals and shirts, sunglasses, multi-way headwear, drawstring bags, pillows, hydrations, and even color packets to be used for the color festival! “The finisher items were a big bonus. I certainly love this years’ big and pretty medal.” Brian added.

The Color Manila Run tours in different parts of the country every year.  With different themes such as the Black Light Run, Costume run, Glitter Run, and others, the organizers never failed to bring something fun and memorable that runners of all ages will definitely enjoy all year round.

Hoop X Elite All Star Game Results and Highlights

November 26, 2016,  HoopX Manila All-Star Event featuring Elite Players from different schools gather on to showcase their basketball skills on the HoopX Elite All-Star Game #HXElites. TEAM GREEN defeated TEAM BLUE, final score 129-80. Team Green dominated the game led by New Era University Big Man Akindele John scoring 28 points and grabbing 10 rebounds and couple of dunks in the late 4th quarter. It was a very fun game for this young players to play on each other and make new friends at the end. Watch out for the HoopX Elite Basketball Camp this December as we feature the Elite High school players in Metro Manila.

Video: Brandon Vera on his Legacy

Brandon Vera will be defending his One Heavyweight title this Friday, December at the Mall of Asia Arena against undefeated Japanese, . While I certainly think that he still have a long MMA career in One Championship because there is practically no one within the region  or within One Championship that can match up very well against Brandon, even Hideki Sekine.

We asked him how he wanted to be remembered as an MMA fighter.

29 November 2016 – Manila, PHILIPPINES: The largest sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), held a luncheon for select members of the media at Vikings Mall of Asia late Tuesday, 29 November. Athletes in attendance included ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera, ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, and world title challenger Reece “Lightning” McLaren, as well as Filipino fighters Danny Kingad and Eugene Toquero.

Fighters are set to compete at ONE: AGE OF DOMINATION which takes place Friday evening, 2 December at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila. Headlining the massive fight card is Brandon Vera who will defend his ONE Heavyweight World Championship belt against Japanese MMA standout Hideki Sekine.

Brandon Vera, ONE Heavyweight World Champion, stated: “I’m ready to fight and defend my title. Training has gone great. I’m excited to step back inside the ONE Championship cage. I love the Philippines, this is my home. I’m here to help all of our Filipino fighters. I’m going to make sure I won’t be the last Filipino heavyweight world champion.”

Bibiano Fernandes, ONE Bantamweight World Champion, stated: “I’ve competed all across the globe against the world’s best fighters, but even though I am a world champion, I feel I am still constantly improving. Martial arts is a continued pursuance of self-improvement and greatness. As long as I continue to improve and take on the biggest challenges, I am happy. Reece McLaren is the latest challenge and I am ready to face him.”

Reece McLaren, world title challenger, stated: “I’ve been an underdog my entire life. I excel in this position, it invigorates me. Bibiano Fernandes is a big hill to climb, but my skills and achievements have brought me to this stage in my career and I am going to do everything I can to take home the belt. This is a rare opportunity so I have to do my best.”

Fourth NBA Store in the Philippines and First in the Visayas Region to Open Nov. 24 at the Ayala Center 

 MANILA, CEBU, PHILIPPINES, Nov. 21, 2016 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced today that the fourth NBA Store in the Philippines will open Nov. 24 at the Ayala Center in Cebu City.

NBA Legend and Hall of Famer Gary Payton will be on hand to meet and interact with fans at the store opening, which will celebrate the league’s first NBA Store in the Visayas region.  To commemorate the occasion, the first 300 customers that purchase an item will receive an NBA gift.

Located on the fourth level of the Ayala Center in 452 square meters of retail space and managed by International Athletic Trading Company, Inc. (IATC), the new NBA Store will offer a wide selection of authentic NBA products from all 30 teams, including official jerseys, footwear, performance gear, lifestyle apparel, and non-apparel merchandise including basketballs, toys, collectibles, and more.  The store will also offer personalized jerseys and will feature interactive elements including NBA 2K video game players where fans test their gaming skills and compete against each other, a Pop-a-Shot machine and a dedicated section for NBA memorabilia.

“We had envisioned expanding the NBA footprint across the country and to have now reached the Visayas region is a milestone for us,” said IATC President and CEO Melvin Lloyd Lim.  “We could not be more excited to open the first NBA Store in the second most populous metropolitan area in the Philippines after Metro Manila.”

“The NBA and IATC are committed to bringing the NBA experience closer to all Filipinos nationwide,” said NBA Philippines Managing Director Carlo Singson.  “The NBA Store in Cebu is the first outside of Metro Manila and is strategically positioned as a premier shopping destination for NBA fans within Central and Southern Philippines, offering an extensive range of authentic NBA products.”

The NBA Store at the Ayala Center will carry products from brands including 2K Sports, adidas, Enterbay, Mitchell & Ness, New Era, Nike, Panini, Spalding, Spec Seats, Stance, and Under Armour.  The regular store hours are 10 am – 9 pm (Sunday-Thursday) and 10 am – 10 pm (Friday-Saturday).

On Nov. 22, Payton will also conduct a meet-and-greet with fans at the NBA Store in Glorietta 3 at 6 pm before visiting the NBA Store in Cebu City’s Ayala Center on Nov. 24 at 6 pm.  The flagship NBA Store in the Philippines in Glorietta 3 opened in 2014, followed by the store in Mega Fashion Hall in 2015 and the store in TriNoma in 2016.

URCC 28: Vindication Was Arguably One Of The Best Fight Cards

URCC 28: Vindication was as BIGGEST BADDEST as I expected to be. The preliminary card bouts had action-packed and multiple finishes. Ref had to stop the fight as Mechavez pounded out Macaria via TKO (doctor stoppage) in round  two. Solomon Dultra also finished MJ Abrillo in the second round by way of submission. Drex Zamboanga climbed to the top of the cage celebrating for choking out Sem Bicaldo.

Do Gyeom Lee successfully defended his featherweight title vs. Ryan Dela Cruz. An elbow opened up a cut above Lee’s forehead and leg kicks rendered the Filipino’s left leg swollen. After the five rounds of back and forth, Lee was the winner by unanimous decision. Two warriors with plenty of motivations to get the win co-headlined the night. Both have all the makings for a great fight. CJ De Tomas with series of slams to the ground outwrestled Alvin Ramirez. Blood splattered on Ramirez from the knee to the head he gave to De Tomas. Kastigo had some great three rounds but slowed down. The flyweight championship still went to De Tomas by judges decision. A first round TKO win gave Geli Bulaong the first URCC female championship crown ever. She utilized some great ground and pound to put away Yan QiHui. Bulaong was confident and controlling that she landed some big shots and finished her Chinese opponent. Chris Hofmann’s knee dropped John Adajar before crunching his head with punches on the canvas. Holfmann claimed the middleweight strap with his second round TKO. He is now the URCC’s two-division champion. Both fighters stepped in on short notice to face each other.

The 3-on-3 match stole the show big time. It was one hell of an out war between Iyos Espinosa, John Rey Larena and team captain Arvin “Asintado” Chan vs. Mark Palomar, Patrick Dos Santos and team captain Panchito “Sugar Ray” Estroso. Team Estroso won the first ever 3 on 3 match in Asian MMA and URCC history. All six of the competitors nearly set off a brawl inside the cage.

Former flyweight champion Red Romero and Jiar Castillo were also victorious in this event. They went toe to toe for three rounds before they took the win by unanimous decision.
