Despite the Weather, Trikini a Success!

MANILA, Philippines – The unpredictable weather did not stop Trikini from kicking off last Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at McKinley West Park, BGC, Taguig. With a number of activities and performances from the country’s hottest musical acts, the event went off with an incredible start!
A fitness party right in the heart of the city, Trikini combined three basic elements– run, bike, and party ̶ in a safe and exclusive venue that allowed attendees to experience and enjoy the great outdoors.
Presented by Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, the event was divided into zones that provided different activities for the festival goers. The Active Zone hosted a 5K fun run and 15K bike race. Top finishers received prizes and tokens from ON Shoes and Colnago while cash prizes were donated to S.O.S Children’s Villages Philippines, the beneficiary of the said event.
The winners for the friendly 5K run and 15K bike race were:
MEN’S 5K RUN TOP THREE:

2.         Ralph Becker
3.         Ralph Angeles
WOMEN’S 5K RUN TOP THREE:
1.         Phoebe Quimio

3.         Rosalyn Molinas
15K BIKE RIDE TOP THREE:

At the Fest Zone, festival goers got their party fix from a number of exciting activities, including fire dancing, poi spinning, and hoop workshops, which paved the way for the highly anticipated performance from Extrapolation. SinoSiKat and Sanya Smith were scheduled to perform, but due to uncontrollable weather conditions, organizers ended the event early with the safety of the participants in mind.
Despite the unexpected downpour, Trikini came out successful with attendees in their active/sports wear and beach wear ran, biked, and partied for a worthy cause.
The event is the first of its kind to raise donations for the benefit of S.O.S Children’s Villages Philippines.  For fifty years, the organization has been providing healthcare, housing, and education to underprivileged children and families in the Philippines. The S.O.S. Youth performed a special dance number in Trikini as a token of appreciation to attendees.

How To Run During The Rainy Season

How is this done?

There are times when being a runner in the Philippines is the best. There is no winter here, and most of the time it is hot and humid. It is a tropical country after all. But the “tropical” part of the country’s climate extends only to the dry season. When the rainy season comes, the number of races drop. Especially in the -Ber months, where storms prevent running from happening. In the Philippines, monsoon season is an off-season, but that’s for most.
Serious runners (especially professional ones) have no choice. If they are scheduled for a run, nothing will stop them, not even water from the sky. So how do they do it? How can you have a great run, while still being safe at the same time? Here’s how.
Plan ahead. Running in the rain, during the rainy season, can be prevented. Yes, it is a given that weather is a fickle thing, and can never be truly predicted. But when planning your run, make sure to look at your Weather App for the week’s forecast. When you know it’ll rain, plan your route, time, and fashion accordingly. If you don’t know when the rain will come, be prepared with a trash bag suit. It’ll be a hassle free run-in-the rain.
Have a way of protecting your belongings. Humans are waterproof. Gadgets are not. A lot of people run with their phones or important items. Make sure these items are stored where the rain cannot affect them. You can put your phone in an armband or waistband, preferably under your clothes.
Pay attention. Running in the rain affects your form, stride, and foot landings. Be careful when turning corners, and running downhill. Adjust to your surroundings. It affects your safety.
An example of a windbreaker, a rain-appropriate clothing
If it’s already raining, dress accordingly. This is simple. If you don’t want to overheat or be heavy during your run, wear less, but smart. If it’s pouring out, put on a light jacket, or a windbreaker. Inside of that, wear dri-fit clothing that can wick moisture quickly. Shoes is a different matter. If you love having your shoes clean during your run, then there is a simple solution. Buy a running shoe that you will use for the rain, or something that you are okay with being slightly dirty. It is not a waste of money, since rain is a frequent occurrence here.
The second you get home, strip. It’s not only to let the clothes dry faster. Your chances of catching an illness, or getting weak, decreases. After running, remove the out soles from your shoes and stuff newspapers in it. It’ll be good for the shoe if it dries faster, rather than accumulating moisture from the rain.

Yakult 10-Miler 2017: Going Strong at 28 Years

MANILA – Yakult, in partnership with Mizuno and 100 PLUS, kicked-off its annual “Yakult 10-Miler” at the Liwasang Ullalim at the CCP Complex last March 5, 2017. For the first time in its 28-year history, the Yakult 10-Miler added a Half-Marathon Category in its event.
Proactive, the well-known race organizer of Color Manila Runs, was the event organizer of the pioneer 10-Miler this year. The fusion of both premier bodies proved to be an effective tandem due to the dramatic developments added in this year’s run; the addition of finisher medals and post-race freebies in all registered kits.

Aside from the delay in the official gun time for the 21 KM Category, the Yakult 10-Miler event transitioned smoothly. The route map for this year’s staging bested the previous ones. The roads were clear and checkpoints were monitored by race marshals. As expected, the hydration stations were sufficient and allocated effectively along the route while the post-race freebies were distributed without any hassle.

COLOR MANILA RUN Year 5: A Kaleidoscope Comes to Life

The Color Manila Run jump-started the 1st quarter of 2017 with a vibrant event last January 8, at the SM Mall of Asia Grounds. Now on its 5th year, thousands of registered runners were pelted with colored powder throughout the race route. The result? A color-stained shirt, tons of artsy photos, unlimited smiles, and epic memories that will last a lifetime.
Known as the most anticipated non-competitive run in the Philippines, the Color Manila Run maintains its goal to advocate a healthy and active lifestyle by adding fun to the running sport that Filipinos will surely enjoy. “I really felt the enjoyment of everybody in the event. In spite of the exhaustion, you can see the joy in their faces. It was a clear sign that Color Manila Run was successful in showing us that running can be a fun thing to do,” Dannika Rodriguez, a consultant at Misys Philippines, recounts her experience.

Runners from various categories – 3K, 5K, 10K, and 21K, – ran through the race courses where different color stations and well-propped crews await them. “It was the perfect event to start my year.” says Milo Dagami, a technical support agent at Telstra Company who just finished a 10KM distance, “The crowd (race crew) at the color stations was very nice and friendly to me. It was awesome!”  Unlike other events in which most runners go home after running, most runners stay in the race village after completing in their respective categories. The programs prepared by organizers every year are exciting and fun as the race route itself.

The highlight of the post-run programs was the Color Festival; a post-run party in which participating runners simultaneously released the colored powders in the air and danced to the beat. “I had so much fun with other runners, especially during the Color festival at the race village,” shares Brian Tan, a software quality engineer. “I guess the best part about the race was being a part of it. Unlike usual competitive races, I didn’t have to worry about my personal record. I had a good time during and after running. It was a wonderful experience all throughout.”

Aside from the creative theme of the event, the Color Manila Run boasts a lot of freebies that gave participants a bang for their bucks. These included race singlets, dri-fit shirts, unique finisher medals and shirts, sunglasses, multi-way headwear, drawstring bags, pillows, hydrations, and even color packets to be used for the color festival! “The finisher items were a big bonus. I certainly love this years’ big and pretty medal.” Brian added.

The Color Manila Run tours in different parts of the country every year.  With different themes such as the Black Light Run, Costume run, Glitter Run, and others, the organizers never failed to bring something fun and memorable that runners of all ages will definitely enjoy all year round.
Congratulations, Color Manila Run!
