Buying Sportswear: Divisoria vs. Original Brands

All athletes have a problem with clothes. It’s a constant struggle to find something to wear for the gym or on the court. Original, dri-fit clothing is hard to come by, especially since it comes out in the thousands. Female athletes have to worry about purchasing yoga pants and sports bras as well. If you’re a student or short on cash, buying these expensive sportswear can be impractical. This is why some Filipinos opt to buy their sportswear at Divisoria.
Shoppers at 168 Mall, Divisoria, sportswear are generally available at some of the malls there. Most can be bought at a minimum of P100, and the prices go up from that point. But buying can be quite a task. One has to check for defects and inconsistencies in the designs. One tip is to always double-check the item. 
In Divisoria, sportswear can come in three types: factory overruns, local brands, and the ubiquitous imitations. Most people go for the imitation brands, which can look and feel quite real. Factory overruns are a rare find, and the closest thing one can get to a “legit” buy. People occasionally buy the local brands. The cheap prices and attractive features of the items are great deals to the common Filipino fitness enthusiast.
For the serious athletes, however, quality is a priority. Most sports call for uniforms after all. Triathletes need to have tri-suits, and while basketball players have their jerseys. Athletes need fabrics that can withstand the constant sweat and stress that they make. A lot of top-notch brands that sell sportswear (2XU, UA,  Nike, Adidas) can retail at P4000, minimum. Clothing from those brands can take a lot of stress. If you saturate your week with high-volume, high-intensity training, you can’t expect your Divisoria bought dri-fit shirt to keep up with you.

The cheap fabric that Divisoria retailers use are not top-notch. They might look good, but they can’t wick sweat away as efficient as an original. An imitation running shoe might feel good, but if you run a 10k with it everyday, the material won’t be able to cope with the stress and will break.  That iron-pressed sticker can wear off. The fake Under Armour or Nike logo can stretch and fall off the shirt. After multiple washes, the color and design might look different. But all those factors depend on the quality. The life of the average Divisoria product will depend on the person’s sport and training volume. 
It’s simple. If you like wearing dri-fit clothes for fashion, then go for it. If you’re a casual gym-goer, a mountaineer, or the occasional runner and biker, go buy that Divisoria dri-fit. However, if you’re a serious athlete, then you should already know that quality sportswear can affect your training. Your allowance/salary, and sports lifestyle are all factors on the choices you make. It all depends on YOU.

Having accomplished a dream that most young basketball players aspire for, Jervy has made it his advocacy to inspire more young players to hold on to that dream.  He has become the voice for Under Armour’s latest program,  FIBA 3×3 U18 Asia Cup presented by Under Armour.
3×3 basketball, or streetball is the largest urban team sport of the world. With 12-second shot clock, and 10-minute or first team to 21-point format, the games are usually fast, accessible, and entertaining for the players and audience alike. The format made its global competitive debut at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore and the World Championships have been regularly organised by FIBA since then.
The Under Armour 3×3 Southeast Asia 2017 Tournament will take place in Cebu at the Cebu City Sports Club and Ayala Center Cebu on April 22-23, 2017.  In Manila, it will take place at Bonifacio Global City on April 28-30, 2017.
Organised by Under Armour in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines, the tournament is open to all U-18 male and female basketballers.

31 March 2017 – Manila, Philippines: The Philippine leg of Under Armour’s ‘Test of Will’, took place last weekend at Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City.
The winners of the event, for the Men’s Division, on 3rd place was Gian Carlo Mercado with a total score of 136.  On  second place was Merwin Torres, with a score of 140 and for 1st place, winner was Raje Fama, with a total score of 150.
For the Women’s Division, on 3rd place was Rachel Ann Martin, with a total score of 93.   On 2nd place, it was Lynette Suler, with a score of 98.  While, Joyce Reboton won for first place, with a score of 126.
Joyce Reboton and Raje Fama will be sent to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia on May 6 for the Finals, to compete with other representatives from other countries.
There were a total of 260 participants who competed in the said event, with 114 participants competing on the first day and 146 participants on the second day.   
UA ‘Test of Will’ Philippine leg, offered athletes the chance to compete in a simple 4-minute circuit consisting of Burpees, One Arm Thruster, TRX Rows and Sandbag Throw.  The side-events also included arm wrestling challenge and a fitness session with Elle Adda.
Each competitor was scored based on the maximum number of repetitions they can achieve within 60 seconds. The highest scoring man and woman of the national Heats from each respective country will be sent to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 6, 2017, to face-off with other representatives from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei.
This year’s overall champion of the regional finals will walk away with S$2,500 cash prize, or around Php 88,000.00, winners will also get free head-to-toe gear and special discounts.

Some of the athletes and celebrities who joined the event on UA Test of Will’s first were Filipino-American Bellator fighter AJ Matthews, Alliance Gym’s top coach George Castro, UAAP football player Kali Huff, volleyball player and TV Host Gretchen Ho, actor JC de Vera, MMA fighter Mark Streigl, fitness expert Elle Adda, three-time world Jiu-jitsu champion Meggie Ochoa and Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz.
Participants witnessed MMA fighters AJ Matthews and Mark Striegl slug it out in the 4-minute challenge ‘Test of Will’.  Striegl won over Matthews 119 to 101 in terms of total repetitions.
UA’s ‘Test of Will’ which is on its second year is designed as “the most advanced urban fitness challenge”, was held last March 25 & 26 at Glorietta Makati City.

27 February 2017 Manila, Philippines – Rio Olympics Silver Medalist for Weightlifting Hidlyn Diaz was recently announced as the latest Under Armour Ambassador, at the recent UA Circuit Challenge held at Robinson’s Magnolia last weekend.
The UA Circuit Challenge, is a two-part event, with the next one taking place at Greenbelt 3 on Saturday, March 4 at 1pm; aims to be a preliminary event to help prepare the participants of  the regional fitness challenge UA ‘Test of Will’, which is set to take place on March 25 & 26 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City.
UA ‘Test of Will’ is on its second year and will be held in 6 countries, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines.

The inaugural Test of Will had a successful and promising turnout last year, with two Filipino athletes Zoe Pond-McPherson and Noelle Wenceslao emerging victorious in the exciting and heart-pumping competition.
In search of a new batch to don the Philippine colors on the thrilling Test of Will stage, Under Armour will hold a national heat at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City on the 25th and 26th of March 2017.
Pushing the outer limits of strength and endurance, will-driven Pinoys (21yrs old and above) will have to compete in a four-minute intense course that requires them to complete 60 seconds of four exercises such as burpees, one-arm thrusters, TRX row and sandbag throw.
Top male and female will get the opportunity to represent the Philippines in the Test of Will final round, which is set to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this coming 6th of May.
Aside from the Philippines, countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei and Indonesia will also be hosting their own qualifiers.
A total of 12 competitors from the six aforementioned nations will go head-to-head inside the highly-touted structure, which contains different fitness zones with calisthenic exercises.
A cash prize of $2,500 and Under Armour gears await the overall winner of the second-annual Test of Will.

Stephen Curry extends deal with Under Armour through 2024

NBA MVP and Golden State Warriors All-Star Stephen Curry extend his contract with Under Armour that will keep him with the brand through the 2024 season.

Terms weren’t disclosed, but the company did say the new deal includes ownership in the company, which hit its all-time high stock price today.

Two years ago, Under Armour signed Curry after Nike failed to match a deal worth less than $4 million a year, which quickly became a bargain as Curry emerged as one of the best players in the league. Last year, in his first year in his signature shoe, the Curry One, he won the league MVP and his Warriors won the NBA title.

“Under Armour has felt like family since day one,” Curry said in a statement. “In the first two years of our partnership, we accomplished so much both on and off the court, and I’m looking forward to being part of the brand’s story for the rest of my playing career and beyond.”

Sales of shoes were up 40 percent last quarter, with the Curry One helping Under Armour sell a record $153 million in shoes in three months.

I, myself as a media can say that the 2015 NBA MVP Stephen Curry is one of the most approachable and inspiring athlete to everyone.

After his media day at Fairmont Hotel, Stephen Curry delighted his fans to an Under Armour Road Show held at MOA Arena last night. Series of basketball drills were done for those aspiring athletes for both boys and girls. Curry also participated in the 3-point shootout. A 15-minute game was also made for the fans to witness Curry’s signature threes, dribbling exibition, and ankle breaking moves. The NBA’s reigning MVP Stephen Curry also made it sure that some of his fans go home with autographed memorabilias and a hand shake to his beloved fans who went to the MOA Arena just to see him.  The UA Road Show ended with the request from the crowd to see Curry dunking a ball. And he did not disappoint the crowd by throwing the ball towards the rim and dunks it with a bang.

Media Day: Stephen Curry in Manila

Yesterday was a big day for all Stephen Curry fans! The reigning MVP arrived in the Philippines and a media day was launched at Fairmont Hotel in Makati. Stephen Curry was here to promote his signature Under Armour shoes and to also showcase UA Road Show event in MOA Arena later that day. Media personnel from different channel and online sites waited and witnessed the much anticipated arrival of the the Golden State Warriors All-Star at Fairmont Hotel Meeting Hall.

The registration was followed by breakfast buffet and freebies were also given by the sponsor Under Armour.
