Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas has broken bone in non-shooting hand

Toronto Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas broke a bone in his left hand during Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Raptors announced that Valanciunas has a fractured fourth metacarpal in his non-shooting hand. The fourth-year veteran will undergo further tests before the Raptors determine how long he will be sidelined.

Valanciunas scored three points in 18 minutes Friday before suffering the injury on a foul by Kobe Bryant under Toronto’s basket in the final minute of the first half.

Valanciunas broke the same bone in his right hand during his 2012-13 rookie season and missed 18 games.

Gasol lift Spain over Lithuania to win EuroBasket 2015 Championship title

Pau Gasol had a double-double and Spain cruised past Lithuania 80-63 on Sunday to regain the European basketball championship title. Gasol led Spain with 25 points and tallied 12 rebounds and 3 block shots. While Jonas Valanciunas scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for Lithuania.

A record crowd of 27,372 filled out Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France on Sunday night to championship game.

Earlier, France won the bronze over Serbia. Nando de Colo played a major role in helping France repay the faith in their fans who had been turning out in record numbers during the Final Phase, taking the lead for good midway through the second quarter so see off Serbia 81-68 and claim the third spot.

NBA stars headlines All Star Five in EuroBasket 2015

Pau Gasol led this year’s All-Star Five Presented by Tissot. Gasol was joined by teammate Sergio Rodriguez. The Real Madrid guard already had Olympic and FIBA Basketball World Cup medals to his name but EuroBasket gold had eluded him until now.

His club teammate Jonas Maciulis stood alongside him in the competition’s top five having provided some talismanic efforts to guide Lithuania to a second consecutive EuroBasket silver medal.

He averaged 13.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and led the tournament in steals with 1.9 per-game, after scoring 34 points in the Round of 16 victory against Georgia and hitting the Group D game-winner against Estonia.

Lithuania center Jonas Valanciunas also earned his first All-Star Five Presented by Tissot selection after contributing 16 points and 8.4 rebounds per-game, despite suffering with illness earlier in the competition.

France’s Nando De Colo completed the fantastic five after playing a starring role in the hosts’ run to the bronze medal.

EuroBasket 2015 Semifinals: Lithuania defeated Serbia 67-64

Toronto Raptors Center Jonas Valanciunas led Lithuania with 15 points, 3 rebounds and 4 blocks to beat Serbia 67-64 on Friday to advance to the final of the European basketball championship and clinch a slot at next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Lithuania will play Spain on Sunday after ending Serbia’s unbeaten run of seven games.Serbia has been the tournament’s highest scoring team so far at an average of 88 points per game, but Lithuania limited last year’s World Cup silver medalist to 33 percent shooting from the field.

International Superstar Milos Teodosic led Serbia with 16 points and 3 assist

Serbia will play France for the bronze medal.

Lithuania defeated Italy in OT in their EuroBasket 2015 Quarterfinals

Toronto Raptors Center Jonas Valanciunas led Lithuania to an overtime win over Italy 95-85 in EuroBasket 2015 Quarterfinals.
Valanciunas scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to secure the final spot in the EuroBasket semifinals, joining France, Spain and Serbia in the final four. While, Denver Nuggets star Danilo Gallinari led Italy with 17 points and 6 rebounds.
