Canelo, GGG And Oscar De La Hoya Talks as to Why Their Fight is Better than Floyd vs Connor

Real hardcore boxing fans know how to differentiate a show between a boxing match and the middleweight clash between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is what the boxing community really needs.
Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin and Oscar De La Hoya join First Take to talk about their upcoming boxing fight set for September 16 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Oscar De La Hoya is not a Fan of Mayweather vs McGregor, Read his Open Letter to Fans

Boxing great and the owner of Boxing Golden Boy Promotions will not go quite in the night as he sees the unfolding of what he thinks could be a circus type of event that could put boxing in shame.  Oscar has been really vocal about the Floyd Mayweather jr vs Conor McGregor match-up and now he officially put it out there in a long letter to fans.

Tell us what you think?

To my fellow #boxing fans:

I write in the hopes that together we can protect the sport of boxing.
With each passing day, it looks more and more likely that the circus known as Floyd Mayweather Vs. Conor McGregor will be coming to town in the near future.
As undercard fights start to take form, athletic commissions give their blessings in exchange for millions of dollars and the fighters start counting even more cash, one group will eventually be left to make sure this farce doesn’t occur.

We, the fans, who are the lifeblood of our sport.

Boxing is starting to dig out of the hole that Floyd and Manny Pacquiao shoveled by waiting seven years to put on a fight that ended up being as dull as it was anti-climactic.
2017 has started off as a banner year for boxing. Joshua vs. Klitschko; Thurman vs. Garcia; Golovkin vs. Jacobs; Canelo vs. Chavez. All four of these fights – and many more — have brought the fight game back and reinvigorated interest from the ever-elusive casual fan.

But if you thought Mayweather/Pacquiao was a black eye for our sport – a matchup between two of the best pound-for-pound fighters that simply didn’t deliver — just wait until the best boxer of a generation dismantles someone who has never boxed competitively at any level – amateur or professional.
Our sport might not ever recover.

I fully understand the initial attraction from any fan of combat sports. McGregor is almost certainly the best pound-for-pound MMA fighter. Floyd is Floyd — the most dominant boxer of his time.

But success in one sport does not guarantee success in another. Far from it. And let’s be clear, these are two different sports — from the size of the gloves fighters wear, to the size and shape of the ring, to the fact the one sport allows combatants to use their legs to strike.

Think about it, beyond Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders, what other athlete has successfully competed in two sports in the modern age? And Jackson and Sanders both played both baseball and football throughout their high school and college careers before going professional.

Furthermore, it’s not like McGregor would be fighting a good fighter, let alone a mediocre one. He would be fighting the best. To use a bit of an extreme analogy, I happen to be a pretty good golfer. Could I potentially hold my own on one of the second-tier tours? Maybe. But would I be able to compete with Rory McIlroy, Jordan Speith or Sergio Garcia? Of course not. Nor would I think to try.

Now, I know critics will say that I’m only writing this letter because my company is promoting what will be the culmination of an outstanding boxing year when Canelo Alvarez takes on Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in September, and I don’t want anything to distract attention away from that fight.

But my interest is in the health of boxing as a whole. It always has been. And if Floyd were to come out of retirement to take on someone like Keith “One–time” Thurman, Errol Spence or some other top welterweight, not only would I applaud the fight, I’d be the first one on line for a ticket.

That kind of fight is what the fans – and I am a fan first — deserve.

Which brings me back to the circus.

Floyd’s and Conor’s motivation is clear. It’s money. In fact, they don’t even pretend it’s not. But it’s also a lack of consequences for when the fight ends up being the disaster that is predicted. After this fight, neither of them will need us anymore. Floyd will go back to retirement — presumably for good this time with another nine-figure paycheck — and Conor will go back to the UFC.

It’s a win-win for them. It’s a lose-lose for us. We’ll be $100 lighter and we will have squandered another opportunity to bring boxing back to its rightful place as the sport of kings.

At this point, only we can shut the circus down by making it clear that we won’t pay to see a joke of a fight and telling our casual-fan friends that they shouldn’t either.
Sincerely,
Oscar

Floyd Mayweather Jr. record according to Oscar Dela Hoya is 43 Wins and 3 Loss

Boxing great turned promoter Oscar De La Hoya sees nothing extraordinary about Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s 46-0 record.

The 6-division former world champion took to Twitter and told Mayweather that he should stop harping about his undefeated status.

“You never ever hear Julio Cesar Chavez saying he’s the best ever, and he was 87-0 before he lost,” said the president of Golden Boy Promotions. “You have to realize that records don’t mean anything in today’s world. Don’t forget Julio Cesar Chavez was 87-0 before he lost his first”.

De La Hoya also said Mayweather’s true record should stand at 43 wins and 3 defeats.

He claimed that the American fighter’s victories against him, Jose Luis Castillo and, most recently, Marcos Maidana were all tainted.

“I watched several fights again and Floyd should be 43-3.”

De La Hoya, whose Golden Boy Promotions co-handles Mayweather’s fights, has been critical of the reigning pound-for-pound king since he lost to Mayweather in 2007.

Oscar Dela Hoya want you to take care of your breast

Oscar Dela Hoya want you to take care of your breast, Oscar and his boxing promotion Golden boy wants you to be aware of one of the biggest fight that is on going wight now, its not a boxing match nor any combat sports. Its the fight against breast cancer. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Golden Boy Promotions has created a new logo which will be used throughout the month of October. Both Bernard Hopkins and Golden boy President Oscar Dela Hoya’s mother died because of breast cancer.
So you better take care of the breast of your partner, Make sure you check it everyday.

So What did Oscar Dela Hoya announced again?

People are wondering if this was the announcement that will shake up the boxing industry. We have been waiting for weeks now for the real announcement. This is not shocking at all.  Ill be more shock if Oscar would announce that he will be fighting again!

A few months ago Dela Hoya twitted about an announcement that will  shake up the boxing industry and I and the boxing world was left wondering what it was. So What did Oscar Dela Hoya announced again? He announced that he will not be fighting anymore.  Well I guess the announcement did not really shook the boxing world as people expect him  to retire because he is old and his body wont agree with him anymore. His statement reads “As I enjoy 10 months of being sober today I come to realize without a cloud over my head that I will never ever fight again.”

Impossible to work with Bob Arum – Oscar Dela Hoya

Oscar Dela Hoya must have been really fed up with Bob Arum as he puts the blame on the Top Rank Promoter on the fights that is not happening specially with Manny Pacquiao and Julio Ceasar Chavez jr. Oscar Dela Hoya said that it is impossible to work with Bob. Watch  the interview here.

What do you think about what Oscar Dela hoya’s statement?

I work too hard to take a chance of losing to a fighter that’s cheating,” Floyd Mayweather Jr. said.
Here is another one “It’s just, if I fight a fighter, I want to make sure that fighter is 100% all-pure and all-natural.”
When will this stop? He is just unintentionally admitting that he is afraid and would probably lose to Pacquiao.  If he will lose to Pacquiao or to any boxer it’s not  because the opponent is on drugs, it’s because the winner is a better fighter. He did not lose to Shane and  Oscar and you know what they are… Lame excuses!

GBP has 3 days to match Arum’s offer

source: Nick Giongco | mb.com.ph

LOS ANGELES — Even after 45 years of promoting the biggest names in boxing, Bob Arum admits to being excited like a fan whenever a mouth-watering match-up looms on the horizon.

Arum is getting that feeling again as Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez appear headed to a Nov. 12 showdown.

The 79-year-old Top Rank chief told the Bulletin on Thursday from his Beverly Hills residence that Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) has until 3 p.m. of Monday (US West Coast time) to match Arum’s offer.

Marquez was at ringside when Pacquiao beat Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas over the weekend and had even met with Arum in the morning of the fight to discuss the proposed 12-round welterweight title encounter.

One week is enough (for GBP to match our offer),” said Arum, stressing that as soon as Marquez accepted the revised Top Rank offer last Monday, the fighter’s lawyer immediately furnished GBP a copy for its perusal.

The offer guarantees Marquez a $5-million payday and a share in the pay-per-view and a whopping $10 million in a fourth fight in case Marquez wins this November.

Arum is so pumped up with the prospects of seeing and promoting Pacquiao and Marquez get it on for the third time that he has already figured out when is the right time to kick off the multi-city promotional tour.

“Maybe at the end of July,” said Arum, mentioning Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York as the usual stops of the press tour, “and, of course, Mexico City.”

Marquez, who will turn 38 in August, hails from Mexico City.

Arum said Top Rank is going to come out with an announcement next week regarding Pacquiao’s future but is keeping his fingers crossed that the pound-for-pound king’s next ring appearance would be against the counter-punching Marquez.

Marquez is best remembered by aficionados of the fight game as the master technician who gave Pacquiao a taste of hell in their two fights.

A professional the last 18 years, Marquez has a 52-5-1 record with 38 knockouts.

If ever they fight for the third time, the catchweight will be 144 lbs with Pacquiao’s World Boxing Organization welter crown at stake.

Oscar Dela Hoya lost his wallet Saga

by: Pow Salud

The Golden Boy Oscar Dela Hoya lost his wallet.
For the Golden Boy there are somethings that money cant buy. One of them is his wallet and some important documents in it.
A food stamp? hmmp… why would that be important? if he can already buy all the food he wants,  for sure it has some sentimental value to it or maybe it is his lucky charm? We don’t really know, Also inside the wallet is his black American Express and Visa. (useless for sure because its already reported lost). and some secret important documents….

Recently Oscar Dela Hoya is offering a  whopping sum of a 1.5 million just to get it back, that is so crazy!

My guess is that the important document inside the wallet is not for everyone’s eyes, it maybe a secret or maybe another picture of him wearing a net stocking. hahaha! Why would a pay a large amount of money to bring back his wallet where he can buy a new one.
O well, if your the Golden boy then you can afford anything. So for those who are looking for it or  if you can find it, just hold it for awhile till his next post on twitter I am betting that  he will up the ante and maybe you can get 2 million. hahahaha!
Good luck Oscar Dela Hoya…

The boys of Top Rank

MANNY PACQUIAO is still the meal ticket of Top Rank Promotions, but you can say American Bob Arum is already laying the groundwork for the Pac-Man’s successors.

The last few weeks have actually seen the rise of two potential heirs. On February 19, Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire moved to a higher tax bracket with a devastating second-round knockout of Fernando Montiel for the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization bantamweight title. A few weeks later, American slugger Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios halted Miguel Acosta in 10 rounds for the World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight title.
Donaire is being lined up for a May 28 showdown with WBA bantam king Anselmo Moreno of Panama while Rios is mulling a showdown with Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera.
Arum, who graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1956, worked in the United States Attorney’s Office before stumbling into the boxing business in 1962. An expert in taxation, Arum was then investigating reports that heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson and his lawyers were planning to ship a hefty amount of cash to Switzerland after the fight with Sonny Liston in Chicago. With the money safely tucked away overseas, only then would tax negotiations proceed. It was not illegal, just shrewd, but somehow the incident opened Arum’s eyes to the big money involved in boxing. After beating Patterson to the punch (no money got out of the US as Arum and his battalion of internal revenue agents collected the taxes before Liston knocked out Patterson in one round), Arum left the government service and promoted his first boxing fight in 1966.
Arum, 79, has since promoted a slew of huge names in the sport, champions like Muhammad Ali, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Alexis Arguello, Oscar De La Hoya and George Foreman. Pacquiao is now carrying the torch for Top Rank Promotions, which the Filipino has been doing the last few years or since De La Hoya left the group, but make no mistake, new talents are on the verge of making their mark.
For over a year now, ABS-CBN Sports has been showcasing Arum’s fistic discoveries in the program ABS-CBN Presents Top Rank Boxing (on its new timeslot, every Sunday afternoon, Studio 23). Three tyros have been constantly turning heads¯featherweight Roberto Marro¬quin, super featherweight Diego Magdaleno and super lightweight Jose Benavidez Jr.
Benavidez, 18, has emerged as Top Rank’s most intriguing prospect. The Arizona native compiled an amateur record of 120-5 and won the US National Golden Gloves title at age 16. At age 17, despite being a year short of the age requirement, Benavidez was issued a professional boxing license in Nevada because of his exceptional talent. Benavidez turned professional last year and has since compiled a record of 10-0 with 9 knockouts. The 6’0” Benavidez offers blinding handspeed and a solid body attack. He had been trained by Freddie Roach until the relationship between the two soured late last year. If he keeps his head in place, Benavidez is bound for greatness.
Dallas native Marroquin, 19-0, 14 knockouts, won six U.S. national amateur titles before turning pro in 2008. The baseball player-turned-boxer is being trumpeted as the “little De La Hoya” by Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Trampler. Marroquin, who has been a fixture in the undercard of Pacquiao’s fights, offers good movement and above-average power.
Las Vegas resident Magdaleno, 18-0 with 6 knockouts, also has a solid amateur background, winning 116 out of 130 amateur fights. He turned professional in 2007 and is slowly getting into a punching groove, having stopped his last three foes. A converted southpaw, Magdaleno loves to throw punches in bunches, although doubts persist on his power.
Pacquiao remains the king of the ring in Top Rank, but nothing is etched in stone and a few years from now the Filipino will archive the gloves and take his place in the pantheon of greats. By then, Benavidez and the rest of Top Rank’s youngsters will be more than ready to take over the spotlight.

Oscar Dela Hoya will go back to boxing?

Former Manny Pacquiao nemesis Oscar de la Hoya ruled out that he’ll be coming out of retirement, quelling rumors that he’ll be making a comeback in the sport that made him one of its biggest superstars.

When you’re two years into your retirement, speculation always crops up,” he told ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael. “But you are hearing it from the horse’s mouth, and the answer is no. I would never [come back]. For me, it’s not worth it. For me personally, it’s not worth it.”

De la Hoya, who was battered to retirement in 2008 by then rising star Pacquiao, said he is no longer interested in resurrecting his boxing career.

The retired boxer, who owns Golden Boy Promotions (GBP), said he would rather concentrate on promoting boxing events.

Rumors in the boxing community had spread that De la Hoya, who won 10 world titles in 6 different weight classes, was scheduled to announce his boxing comeback on June 18.

“I have no idea. June 18? No. I don’t know,” he said. “It’s just not worth it. I have no interest whatsoever. None, whatsoever. There’s none. The door, it’s locked. There is no way.”

He, however, admitted that he’s always being asked by fans to fight again. There’s also the pressure of earning millions of dollars.

People say all the time, ‘Let me talk you into it, there’s a lot of money,’ whatever. Fans say I should fight again. They say, ‘You can’t go out the way you did.’ I guess I will hear it forever. But I have decided, and nothing is changing. I loved the training. I loved being in the gym, but I’m decided: There is no way I am even thinking about it. Throw that out the window. There’s no reason to come back. I don’t feel any reason to come back and fight competitively.”

De la Hoya retried from boxing with a record of 39 wins and 6 losses with 30 knockouts.

ESPN.com said De la Hoya set pay-per-view records with 14.1 million buys and $696.4 million in gross revenue for his 19 pay-per-view fights during his colorful professional career.

De la Hoya predicts Pacquiao-Mayweather fight

source: Mark Lamport-Stokes | Reuters.com

LOS ANGELES, California – Plans for a mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have so far come to naught but boxing great Oscar De La Hoya believes the blockbuster long desired by fans will eventually take place.

Eight-times world champion Pacquiao and Mayweather, who has never lost a professional bout, are the two biggest draws in the sport and a showdown between the two would decide the mythical title of the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter.

Mayweather had been expected to meet Filipino southpaw Pacquiao early last year until negotiations collapsed over the American’s demand for random drug testing. Both fighters ended up taking on different opponents.

I believe that fight will take place,” De La Hoya told Reuters in a telephone interview. “I believe Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao understand that it has to take place.

“They are the best fighters out there and I feel they both really want this fight to happen. When the time comes, people will enjoy a tremendous fight because styles make fights.”

De La Hoya, who held world titles in six different weight classes, predicted that a clash between the aggressive Pacquiao and defensive genius Mayweather would emulate the great battles between Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns in the 1980s.

Asked to predict the victor should the bout take place, De La Hoya replied: “I see Floyd Mayweather winning and I say that not only as an ex-fighter and a promoter but as a student of the game.

I really love dissecting styles, studying styles and Mayweather has a style to beat anybody. He calculates his punches and his timing. When he is ready to punch with power, he always connects in the right place.

“There is a lot of thinking behind the strategy of winning a fight and Mayweather has to be the best at that.”

De La Hoya, a gold medal winner at the 1992 Olympics, announced his retirement from boxing in April 2009, four months after being stunned by Pacquiao in an eighth-round TKO in a non-title fight in Las Vegas.

He ended his career with a record of 39-6, including 30 knockouts, and has since spent most of his time working as a boxing promoter while continuing to raise money through his various charitable initiatives.

Boxing regrets

Asked if he had any regrets from his boxing career, De La Hoya replied: “I wouldn’t change anything with my career or my life. Everything always happens for a reason.

But if there was one fight that I could really change it would have to be the last three rounds when I boxed Felix Trinidad in 1999. For me, that was the biggest fight in non-heavyweight history at the time.

And that fight was fairly easy for me but over the last three rounds I lost the fight. So if I could change anything from my career, it would have to be those last three rounds.”

De La Hoya, a keen amateur golfer, said he still missed the thrill of competing in the ring.

“Competitive boxing has been my life,” he added. “I started boxing when I was four so it’s difficult to cope with the whole retirement thing and not putting on the gloves for the rest of my life.

“But I will tell you one thing. When I get out on that golf course and I make a birdie or I hit a beautiful shot, that adrenaline rush that I get really does make up for any left hook that I can throw inside that ring.”

While speaking to Reuters, De La Hoya announced the move by his Golden Boy Promotions company to link up as a business partner with the Mexican tequila brand, Tres Generaciones.

“I come from a third generation of fighters because my grandfather and my father also fought. My family are consumers of tequila so … it was just a natural fit.”

De La Hoya: We will step back for Pacquiao-Marquez

Source: Hesiquio Balderas | boxingscene.com
Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya said in an interview to Televisa Deportes, conducted after Sunday’s fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Michael Katsidis,..
..that he is willing to step aside with his company in order for Juan Manuel to secure a third fight with Manny Pacquiao. Golden Boy has a heated feud with Pacquiao’s promoter, Top Rank.

”As president of Golden Boy Promotions, I want to make the fight between Pacquiao and Marquez. The problem is that [Top Rank CEO Bob] Arum doesn’t want to make the fight if Golden Boy is involved,” said De La Hoya.

”There is no way in the world that Pacquio or Arum will want a part of Marquez after watching this, they will hide, but like I said Golden Boy will stay out of the promotions because Arum doesn’t want to do business with us. I will do it for Juan, because he deserves it. I won’t be part of the promotion for that fight and let Top Rank do the full promotion.”
”Marquez is the best, simple as that. Pacquiao is the fight we want, and the fight that Mexico wants, and the fight the world wants. Marquez is better, is getting stronger at the higher weights, and is faster now. He is like old wine. And Pacquiao most face Marquez in order to get respect from the boxing world because they have unfinished business.”

Arum rips De La Hoya: "He’s pathetic, really so dumb"

source: Lem Satterfield | boxingscene.com

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum tore into his promotional rival, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, over his recent comments regarding the elimination of every promoter in boxing – other than Golden Boy.

De La Hoya feels that boxing would be in a much better position if only one core promotional company is running the fights and major televison dates, and that company should be Golden Boy.

“We need to sign all the talent and get all the TV dates. Then you can have your own agenda and have a schedule for the fans and the sport,” said De La Hoya. “You can do a monthly pay per view, a bi-weekly HBO fight, you can have the best fighters fight each other. When you have five or six promoters, it’s very difficult.”

Arum doesn’t agree with De La Hoya’s commentary.

“There’s one word to describe Oscar, and his commentary, and that’s pathetic. I mean, this guy is really so dumb. Anybody that pays any attention to what he says has to be stup*d,” said Arum.

“That’s all that I have to say about it. I mean, I’m not going to give a rebuttal to it,” said Arum. “It’s preposterous. What do you do, get angry at it? He’s just simply pathetic. That’s my crituque on this, that it’s pathetic.”

The tension between the two companies, Top Rank and Golden Boy, has been raised to an all-time level in the last few weeks. On Sept. 21, Golden Boy Promotions filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of Nevada against Arum and Top Rank CFO, David Lopez, accusing the duo of racketeering and fraud and seeking damages in the range of $3 to $5 million plus attorneys fees related to money generated from three Pacquiao fights.

Golden Boy Promotions owns a percentage of Pacquiao’s promotional contract in accordance with a settlement between the two companies in 2007, and is owed millions of dollars from Pacquiao’s 2008 lightweight title bout against David Diaz, his 2009 welterweight title bout against Miguel Cotto and his March welterweight title defense against Joshua Clottey.

Don King rips Golden Boy over Mayweather’s treatment

The headlines have been working overtime for nearly two weeks. Veteran promoter Don King and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have been spending a lot of time together in Florida.

The headlines didn’t stop this weekend as Mayweather flew to St. Louis as King’s special ringside guest for Saturday’s Alexander-Kotelnik card. The 78-year-old King is attempting to become Mayweather’s negotiating partner for a third attempt to make a mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao.

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, made two attempts to finalize a deal for a Mayweather fight, and failed both times. King believes that he can make the fight with Arum, easily. Mayweather has worked with Golden Boy Promotions for his last four ring appearances. Top Rank and Golden Boy have a very strained relationship, which may or may not cripple any future Mayweather-Pacquiao negotiations.

“Me and Bob Arum can pull this Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao s**t off in two seconds, you know what I’m saying. I’m talking in two shakes of a lamb’s tail. It would be fitting and proper for Bob and I to work on this because we’re used to what it means,” King said.

Many industry insiders have wondered why Mayweather is entertaining the possibility of working with King instead of Golden Boy. According to King, Golden Boy Promotions have not shown Mayweather the proper respect in their four fight relationship. He says the promotional company never defends him in the media and simply view him as a piece of high-priced property.

“They [Golden Boy] don’t speak ghetto-ese like Floyd Mayweather does, do you understand? I mean, that’s like hieroglyphics to them. So they may talk to the man like they’re talking down to the man. Talking around the man. Or looking at the man in a condescending manner, you know what I mean? They look at him like he’s an indentured servant when in actuality he’s the hottest thing on the planet,” King said.

“That’s what it is. It’s a disrespect of cultures. You must be able to respect people’s cultures and to be able to know what they’re thinking and feeling. You’ve got to be able to stand in their shoes. You’ve got to be able to look out of their eyeballs. Other than that, if you try to convince a man against his will, then he’ll be of the same opinion still.”

“Floyd Mayweather has the ability to self-promote to the point where they would offer him $40 million. But if he was with me, it would be $100 million. That’s the difference. In addition, he would keep his dignity and his pride intact. They [Golden Boy] treat him like he’s a cow or a horse, and like he’s property. But you’ve got to get that s**t out the way.”
