Highlights: Star Hotshots’ Impressive Win Against Mighty SMB, Coach Victolero Gives Credit to Team Effort

SMB not so mighty without JunMar Fajardo,  suffers first loss in the 2017 PBA Governors Cup

Team work and game plan – Coach Chito Victolero

After a well-deserved win, Coach Chito Victolero gives credit to team effort, team work and game plan as his Star Hotshots endured the challenge of the Beermen and won with the score of 104-98.
SMB looked great as usual and was really giving the Hotshots a tough time but Star Hotshots came in prepared and rose to the occasion.  SMB was playing without JunMar who suffered an injury in their last game. In the absence of JunMar, other players did step up. Lassiter led the scoring for the locals with 24 points followed by Arwind Santos who were both shooting at 50%.
Import Mckines also contributed a game high of 27 points while grabbing 22 rebounds.

The young import of Star Malcolm Hill produced 20 points but he was only shooting at 7/18(38%). It was Ian Sangalang who bucketed 18 points (50% FG) and Reavis who scored 13 points on a hundred percent shooting made the difference for Star Hotshots.
This is very important, in our mindset, that we can beat SMB – Coach Victolero
Star Hotshots lorded over team rebound with 49 against 46 of  SMB. Star also moved the ball better having 25 assists compared with 19 of SMB.

After a surprisingly dominant performance in game 1 against the crowd favorite Ginebra, the best player of the game Chris Ross shared their strategy coming into the game.
Chris talks to the courtside reporter and discusses the plans to go at it right away and make a statement against Ginebra. The plan was to take out the crowd and showed force and they did just that ultimately making it look easy.

But the success of SMB will not come easy on the second game as they recognized that Tim Cone and the rest of the Ginebra players will sure bounce back and adjust.
Chris Ross is excited for the out of town game but before they travel to Lucena for game 2 they have to once again hit the gym.
SMB has shown over and over why they are the best team in the PBA right now and in the game 2 of the Finals they certainly won’t back down and give it away to Ginebra and tie the series.
Which team will take Game 2?

SMB and Ginebra clashes again in game 3 for semifinals edge.

Ginebra San Miguel and San Miguel Beermen will again face each other this Friday at 7pm in Araneta Coliseum to get ahead of their best of five series. The battle has been witnessed to be a close one between these sister teams as they exhibit a very tight kind of basketball. San Miguel Beermen dominated their previous match up despite Junmar’s absence on the court for a couple of minutes due to a cut on his head due to a collision between him and his teammate. Ginebra was down by double digits in the fourth quarter but lived their Never Say Die spirit by getting an inch closer to their sister team opponent by a precarious one point lead. After a time out called by the SMB bench with a few seconds left on the clock, SMB somehow managed to crack a successful play lead by Alex Cabagnot while Ginebra did a great job on the defensive end, making it hard for the Beermen to execute the play drawn by Leo Austria but still found an open guy through Elijah Millsap who scored two points on a penetration drive and a slam.

These two teams will again be tested and will be expected to show a very close game again as Ginebra tries to get back on track and beat their sister franchise while SMB promises to keep their eyes open to every Ginebra execution knowing that this team has this kind of tradition and reputation when it comes to coming back from various huge deficits in the past which left a mark in the PBA history since the Jaworski era.
