PagmamahaRun – Valentine’s Run – post event review 02/14/’16

PagmamahaRun as it was called is a combined word for “Love” and “Run” and was organized by Runtarantantan and RVMP Events. It was a blast! Not only because it’s valentine’s day and there are thousands of dating couples swarming here and there ūüėȬ†

but… I witnessed a unique running event full of LOVE! Yes guys that’s correct! Everywhere you look, you can see happy faces!¬†
Two days before the run, I got my singlet and 16k race bib. They have me fill up the registration / waiver form.(Thank you Powcast) I was so excited!

I got to the event about thirty minutes before the starting time. Some people were already assembling at the start line.

I also notice the “Love Walls” that RVMP Events’ facebook page posted online prior to the event…where people can write what they feel or post for a candid pic.

Before starting the race, there was a mini-program where Bearwin started w/ a brief introduction of how the event was prepared, giving advice and motivation with an input of his own fitness journey. National anthem was played then later on, Kuya Kim led us in prayer and gave a weather forecast:

With, bad news & good news. According to him, “Amihan” (cool northeast wind) will slowly disappear the following¬†Monday¬†but the good thing was that we still felt it during¬†the run. ūüôā

…then a short warm up exercise led by no other than Regine Tolentino. (“Show me whachya got girl!” – moves from New Thang- Redfoo) Weeetwew!¬†

Exactly 5am…¬†Ready…get set….GO! *gunstart*

The whole course went on smoothly along Roxas Blvd heading towards coastal mall (10k U-turn marker) to Luneta (16k U-turn marker) then going back to CCP complex. Also, they had provided about 8-10 water stations along the route. This helped me a lot, especially because I forgot to bring my own hydration bottle. ūüė¶

Halfway through my course, I bumped into my high-school schoolmate, Chin Fresnido! Haha! So I gotta share this! Right side: She with her friends (Photo Credit: Running Photography)

I loved the route because it didn’t have many turns. It was a bit challenging because we had to go through 2 flyovers twice. It didn’t have markers like some of the runs so if you don’t have anything to use in monitoring your distance like an app., you wouldn’t determine the¬†distance you already ran (3k, 6k, 8k and so on). Not really a biggie though!¬†

After crossing the finish line, the marshal congratulated me and awarded the medal. Afterwards, I was directed to claim my finisher shirt. The claiming booths are located just nearby so it’s very convenient. Very organized indeed!

Post race program includes Bearwin, Mitoy Yonting, Gene Padilla, Long Mejia onstage. There are some lovers who even chose the event as a way to propose. (Naks!) Check out the proposal videos!:

All finishers got the heart shaped¬†medals with corresponding distance ran/ registered, raffle entries and different freebies from sponsors. So cool! ¬†Right now, I’m recovering from leg¬†muscle sore, but I still feel great.¬†

Here’s the video teaser released shortly by Runtarantantan’s¬†Facebook¬†page after the event:

Andok’s Pambansang Fun Run Review

Andok’s Pambansang Fun Run was held on December 6, 2015 at SM By The Bay, SM Mall of Asia Grounds, Pasay City. Andok’s in cooperation with Runtarantantan organizers celebrated their 30th anniversary to promote healthy lifestyle. All registered runners were able to get a singlet, medal, raffle entry and freebies. My brother registered early for the both of us at Toby’s SM MOA branch so we got the sizes that’s just right for us.

Registration fees were very affordable! Andok’s has organized their anniversary event to be budget friendly for everyone! Check the above poster for the registration details with prices,¬†sample singlet, finisher shirts and medals.

To top it up, Andok’s gave away Dri-fit finisher shirt to the first 100 finishers of featured 4 race categories: 3K, 5K, 10K, and to all finishers of 16K.¬†

Here’s a sample 5k finisher shirt:

Okay, so what’s our take and other runner’s comments?

Negative:
  • There’s no assurance that all first 100 finishers of 3k, 5k & 10k deserve to have the finisher shirts. (Some runners even started on the first gap and did not finish the first U-turn slot- there were no markers yet on that route)
  • There were gaps on the median strips wherein no¬†marshals¬†were stationed. (So there’s a lot of undisciplined¬†runners doing shortcuts- well, they’re just cheating themselves anyway ūüėČ )
  • Others claimed that they saw some runners running ahead of their gun start time. 3k division running at 5k gun start. (Oh c’mon guys, really?!)
Positive:
  • Cheap! Cheap! Cheap! Very affordable compared to other fun runs held on the same day. Andok (Lots of freebies too!)¬†
  • All for FUN! Non-competitive¬†event!¬†
  • Entertaining performances after the run. (esp. the Zumba Fiesta show! *wink* )
  • Easy to register!¬†(RUNNR Trinoma & ATC, Move Store in Megamall + TOBY’S Glorietta & SM MOA)
some of the traffic enforcers, marshals, photographers & runners who participated

Here’s the highlight of the event:

Overall, the Andok’s fun run was still good and fun. Considering that all events like this have their downsides. Hopefully they can improve on their opportunities. I’d still recommend Runtarantantan organized events to people who are into healthy living and at the same time having fun.
