The Manila Great Run – 06/12/’16 – Filinvest Alabang

The “Manila Great Run: Duo Road Race Challenge” was held on June 12, 2016 at Filinvest City, Alabang. Race categories includes individual 3k & 5k and the highlight categories which are the challenging twist of 10+5k Individual and the 10+5k team competition.

The Manila Great Run, like what they say, probably is the first one where you can run two sets of races with a recovery period in between. I was really planning on running the Duo Road Race Challenge Individual category 10k + 5k run but due to time and financial constraints, I decided to just skip it and look forward to the next run in my calendar.

This is an unexpected run for me because AJ Seradoy, who happens to write for Powcast, came down with flu on race day itself. I was just informed a night prior to the event that she may not make it but will still try.

Then at around 2am, she called me that I really had to run in her stead because there was a 5k race kit waiting for her in the Powcast tent. So to make it short I was the one who ran for her. Eventhough I was not able to run the 10k + 5k (as what I previously planned ), I’m still glad that I was able to run the 5k category.

In running, everything has to be in sync. Body and mind has to be as one because running one without the other is like running on just one foot. Even though I can run anytime on a short notice, but since my mind was not really set on running today, I had some challenges. Still, nothing that I
can’t handle. “A bad run is better than no run at all.” 🙂

The event was pretty much well organized, on the average to say the least. They could have done a much better job on the distribution of the finisher shirts, medals and lootbags because there’s no line in claiming. The security was great and the roads were very well marked. You wouldn’t get lost, with all the turns that the course had. Overall, minus my running buddy, the event was still great!

A big shoutout to Sir Pow and the rest of the Powcast peeps. Thank you for the run!

Here are few other pictures that I took at the event:

Featured Event: MANILA GREAT RUN 2016 (June 12, 2016 at Filinvest Alabang)

I have run many races since 2012 and some of them have different features or crazy gimmicks. I have completed medals that form into one (Run United Trilogy), splashed by assorted colored powders along the way (Color Manila Run), struggled to reach the finish line just to beat the Sub-1 hour cut-off time (Pinoy Fitness Sub-1 Challenge), seen participants pass various “military-like” obstacles, (Guerilla Race) or chased by terrifying zombies (Outbreak Manila), and so much more.
However, this is the first time that I have seen a race that will give running shorts (Yes, RUNNING SHORTS) to their participants and provide a 2- leg race with a recovery session in between. I have never seen a competitive race being cut in half on the same date. Also, getting freebies in each run is something I’m used to, but running shorts? This might one of the most unique ideas yet.
Introducing the “Manila Great Run Duo Road Race 2016”, a long distance running competition that features 2 legs: a 10k run and a 5k run, with a conditioning recovery break in between.  Runners will experience  different body workouts and nutrition treats as they prepare for the 2nd leg of the race. The run is supported by Mizuno, a globally renowned Japanese sportswear brand. Runners can expect quality items and an exciting race event!

Joining the run will also aid the pediatric cancer patients of the Philippine General Hospital as one of MGR2016’s charity beneficiaries and help increase the scholarship fund for high school students from selected schools in Metro Manila. Help others while keeping your healthy lifestyle!

Here is the poster of the Manila Great Run Duo Road Race 2016 for other important details.

                                             RACE SINGLET DESIGN (Dri-Fit Material)
RACE FINISHER SHIRTS ( All Categories)
I’m quite into the design of the MGR2016 finisher shirt. The shirt presents an aesthetic combination of simplicity and classiness. With a minimalist graphic design and accented colors on the sleeve area, the finisher shirt of the MGR fits right to the taste of simple runners like me. Good job to the designer of MGR2016 shirt!
                                                       RACE SHORT (Pre- race Freebie)
I appreciate how the designer tried to pair the running short with the race singlet and finisher shirt. It’s like having a complete set of uniform for the MGR 2016. Runners should also consider the idea that branded running shorts aren’t cheap nowadays, much less given free. This idea of the organizers is quite a treat for all participants.
RACE SHIRTS (Top 3 runners of the Male and Female Category )
RACE MEDALS (Post race Inclusion)

                                                                       RACE MAPS
I am one of those runners who often run and train within central Metro Manila. Running around the Filinvest City will be a new route experience since the Skyway is the most common route offered by other races held in Alabang.
