Pacquiao wins lopsided decision over Mosley

LAS VEGAS – Manny Pacquiao caught Shane Mosley early, then chased him the rest of the night. Not much more he could do against an aging fighter who seemed only to want to survive.
Pacquiao won a lopsided 12-round decision Saturday night, retaining his version of the welterweight title in a fight that was roundly booed over the late rounds because Mosley refused to trade punches.

Pacquiao won every round on two ringside scorecards in extending the remarkable run that has made him the most exciting fighter in the sport.
He also won the ungrudging respect of a veteran fighter who has been in with some of the best in the world.
“I fought the best fighter in the world,” Mosley said. “He has exceptional power, power that I’ve never been hit like this before.”
Pacquiao knocked down Mosley with a left hook in the third round, a punch that sapped Mosley’s willingness to engage. Pacquiao ran after Mosley the rest of the fight, but the former champion who has never been stopped in 18 years in the ring managed to stay away enough to finish the 12th round upright.
Pacquiao won 120-108 on one scorecard, 120-107 on a second and 119-108 on the third. The Associated Press had him winning 118-110.
For Mosley, the fight was strikingly similar to his bout a year ago against Floyd Mayweather Jr. — except this time Mosley didn’t even land a big punch like he did early on against Mayweather. Mosley’s biggest moment on this night came when referee Kenny Bayless mistakenly ruled that Mosley knocked Pacquiao down in the 10th round when he didn’t even hit him with a punch.
The knockdown that wasn’t spurred Pacquiao on as he went after Mosley the rest of the round and again in the 11th. By then the crowd was cheering “Knock him out! Knock him out!” but Pacquiao — bothered by a cramp in his left leg since the fourth round — didn’t have enough to finish him off.
“It wasn’t my best performance,” Pacquiao said. “I did my best. I did not expect this result.”
The closest Mosley got to Pacquiao all night came at the beginning of the 12th round when he hugged Pacquiao before the two went about finishing their business. That took some of the fire out of Pacquiao, who didn’t really go after the knockout in the final round.
Promoter Bob Arum defended putting Mosley in the ring against Pacquiao despite signs in Mosley’s last two fights that his reflexes were slipping.
“Nobody can really perform against him,” Arum said. “Some of these guys are pretty good fighters, but nobody in their whole experience has ever faced somebody like Pacman. Everybody is going to look the same way.”
Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 knockouts) was a 7-1 favorite and also the favorite of the crowd that gathered expecting to see another one of his thrilling performances. That he couldn’t deliver was the only bad part of the night for a fighter who doubles as a congressman in his native Philippines.
It wasn’t the distractions of trying to do two jobs well, Pacquiao said, but leg problems that first cropped up in his fight last November against Antonio Margarito.
“I thought Shane did a great job, he had some speed,” Pacquiao said. “I couldn’t move because my left leg got tight. It’s a problem I’ve been having lately. I’m going to work on my legs in future training camps.”
Mosley (46-7-1-1) said he thought he did a good job despite losing round after round, and wouldn’t blame his bad performance on the fact he is 39 and has been fighting ever since he was a child.
Mosley was tentative from the opening bell, moving backward and unwilling to engage Pacquiao. With good reason, because a left hook by Pacquiao found its mark with a minute left in the third round and put Mosley on the canvas for only the third time in his 18-year pro career.
Mosley was up at the count of five, and managed to survive the final minute of the round despite Pacquiao’s best efforts to take him out. Pacquiao didn’t come close to stopping him after that, but landed enough punches to the head that Mosley’s right eye was nearly swollen shut in the late rounds and the left side of his face was puffy, too.
Pacquiao pressed the fight most of the night, but he, too, didn’t take many chances, which trainer Freddie Roach said was because of the muscle cramp that his corner tried to massage between rounds.
“He had no leverage to move after that,” Roach said. “It was a very gutty performance in my mind.”
Perhaps, but the sellout crowd of 16,412 came to see more, and booed repeatedly in the late rounds. The boos were directed at Mosley, not Pacquiao, but it was clear early on this would not be a classic fight.
Mosley came into the ring with the song “Mama Says Knock You Out,” but what would have been more appropriate if he had found a song called “Mama Says Don’t Knock Me Out.”
Mosley fought as if trying to protect his legacy of having never been stopped and, if that was his strategy, it succeeded. But it made for a lackluster fight and did nothing to burnish the legacy that the Filipino champion has built with 14 straight wins over the last six years — including some over some of the biggest names in the game.
Pacquiao, who wore yellow gloves as a symbol of solidarity in the fight against poverty in his country, made a minimum of $20 million for the fight. Mosley, who has now won only two of his last six fights, was guaranteed $5 million.

LAS VEGAS — Having tasted the wrath of Manny Pacquiao and tested the rage of Shane Mosley’s blinding combinations, Miguel Cotto has an inkling of what will happen Saturday night when Pacquiao and Mosley finally get it on at the MGM Grand.

Speaking to a mixed of Hispanic and Filipino scribes Thursday at the Pacquiao-Mosley media center, Cotto assured fight fans of a slambang showdown owing to the styles of the main event fighters.
“It’s going to be a great fight, a tough fight for both guys. The guy who presents more courage will provide difficult moments and he will win the fight,” said the 30-year-old Puerto Rican.
“Mosley is tough and Pacquiao is also tough and when you put these two fighters together, you are going to watch a war,” said Cotto, who was stopped in the 12th round by Pacquiao in 2009 and beat Mosley on a unanimous decision in 2007.
Pressed who is going to emerge victorious, Cotto was tightlipped but expressed the belief that the paying public will have their money’s worth because “it will go 12 rounds.”
Asked to compare the power of Pacquiao and Mosley, Cotto was a bit reluctant to point who among the two gave him more pain and punishment.
“It’s almost the same. The speed is the same. The explosiveness of Pacquiao is going to be the key,” said Cotto, who is still hopeful that he will one day get the chance to face the Filipino again.

Mayweathers pick Pacquiao over Mosley

It’s no joke, but the same family who loathed Manny Pacquiao is picking him to beat Sugar Shane Mosley for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title on Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines).


Indirectly making their choice, Floyd Mayweather Sr. and his brother, Roger, are on the same page for a possible Pacquiao victory.

Floyd Sr. said that Mosley, 39, should be in the same condition as when he fought Antonio
Margarito two years ago in order to beat the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter.

“If he trained good enough and hard enough to perform like he did with Margarito in the ring that particular night, then he’s got a chance,” said Floyd Sr, who acknowledges Mosley had shown some age especially in his 12-round unanimous decision loss to Floyd Jr. last year.

Roger, a former two-time world champion, said that Mosley’s chance of pulling off an upset rests solely on the fight plan laid out for him by trainer Nazeem Richardson.

“He’ll still make it a better fight. It doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t win as a 40-year-old,” said Roger, who trains Floyd Jr., inactive for over a year now since his 2010 encounter with Mosley.

“It’s a matter of how you attack Pacquiao and that’s the difference.”

That the Mayweather brothers are on the side of Pacquiao in this rare moment definitely comes as a big surprise.

Along with his son, Floyd Jr., the Mayweathers have criticized Pacquiao in the past owing to two failed bids at arranging a fight with the younger Mayweather.

Disagreement in the drug testing procedures to be administered for both Pacquiao and Floyd Jr. led to the indefinite shelving of the mammoth promotional fight.

This eventually led to accusations by the Mayweathers that the Filipino boxing superstar is using performance-enhancing drugs.

Roger, however, is for the materialization of the match.

“We’ll see who’s the best fighter in the world, that’s the only way you would know,” he said of the fight that many anticipate would go down as the biggest in the history of boxing.

Roger, who admits not having watched any Pacquiao fights in his entire life, said the monetary consideration expected to be gained from pitting two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world should not be put aside.

“There’s enough money on the table. It’s a lot of money, so it should happen,” he explained. – JVP, GMA News

Pacquiao ready to fight Mosley and then sing

LAS VEGAS – Ask Shane Mosley how he can beat Manny Pacquiao, and the answer is match his speed and don’t be afraid to trade punches with a fighter who loves to trade punches. Ask trainer Naazim Richardson how his fighter can beat the best boxer in the world, and the answer is slightly different.

“If he can be the best Sugar Shane Mosley there is, then Pacquiao has problems,” Richardson said.
Unfortunately, Mosley hasn’t been his best for quite some time. And that could make for a rough night Saturday when he tries to bounce back from a bad loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. against a fighter who lately has been beating up everyone put in front of him.
The 39-year-old Mosley will try to resurrect his career with a signature win over Pacquiao, who once again is so confident of his chances that he has scheduled a post-fight concert on the Las Vegas Strip for all his loyal followers. Mosley must not only battle Pacquiao, who has won 13 straight fights, but the perception that he is a shot fighter after one last big payday.
“It’s an opportunity to show people I’m not washed up,” Mosley said. “You don’t lose your power. They say you lose your speed, but I haven’t lost my speed either.”
Pacquiao certainly hasn’t lost his, and is coming off an 8-week training camp that trainer Freddie Roach said was his best ever. The Filipino sensation who travels with an entourage bigger than any Muhammad Ali had in his day, remains focused on boxing even while working a side job as a congressman back home and singing with his band.
His real work, though, comes in the ring in big pay-per-view fights. And ever since he sent Oscar De La Hoya into retirement by giving him a brutal beating, Pacquiao has been the most exciting fighter of his time.
“This is an important fight for me and millions of my fans,” Pacquiao said. “You cannot underestimate him. He’s strong, throws a lot of punches and moves fast.”
The Mosley of old certainly did that. But after losing a lopsided decision to Mayweather and struggling in a draw against Sergio Mora last September, many in boxing simply consider Mosley to be old.
Oddsmakers agree, making Pacquiao a 6-1 favorite in a fight that has been sold out for weeks at the MGM Grand hotel arena. The scheduled 12-round fight is for the WBO version of the welterweight title that Pacquiao won against Miguel Cotto.
Pacquiao weighed in at 145 pounds, while Mosley was at 147.
Pacquiao, returning to the same ring where he made his U.S. debut 10 years ago, is coming off two fights at Cowboys Stadium in Texas. In his last fight there in November he gave a bigger Antonio Margarito such a beating that Margarito was hospitalized and had to have surgery on his eye socket.
But Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts) was also on the receiving end of a lot of punches by Margarito, largely because he’s the kind of fighter unafraid of mixing it up.
“When you like to exchange and you like to throw punches, you put yourself in harm’s way,” Roach said. “That’s why Manny is the most exciting fighter in the world. I can’t take that away from him. He’s always liked to throw combinations, and when you let your hands go you leave yourself open.”
Mosley, who gave up his ownership share in De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Productions to get the fight, is eager to find out just how hittable Pacquiao might be.
“I think it’s going to be an action fight from the beginning,” Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) said. “It’s going to get very interesting, very quick.”
Almost lost in the buildup has been talk about Pacquiao fighting Mayweather in what would likely be the richest fight in boxing history. Mayweather, who hasn’t fought in a year and is facing legal charges in three criminal cases, has given no indication he is serious about a fight with the man most in boxing say is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
“I don’t want to talk about Floyd Mayweather’s issues or anything like that,” Pacquiao said. “I’m the kind of person who doesn’t want to talk about someone behind his back. He did his best in boxing. He contributed to the history of boxing.”
Part of that history, Mayweather supporters might argue, is that he softens up fighters for Pacquiao. Mayweather beat De La Hoya before Pacquiao fought him and knocked out Ricky Hatton before Pacquiao also stopped Hatton. Now Pacquiao takes on Mosley, hoping to improve on the lopsided decision win that Mayweather scored against a fighter who has never been stopped.
“If the knockouts come, they come,” Pacquiao said. “What matters is the fight that we can give to the people and the fans. I want them to be happy and excited about our performance.”
Pacquiao is expected to make at least $20 million, while Mosley is guaranteed $5 million plus a percentage of pay-per-view sales.

Mosley still needs to lose weight for Pacquiao fight

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Pacquiao’s opponent “Sugar” Shane Mosley arrived at the MGM Hotel and Casino aboard his own decorated bus.


Mosley said it is indeed an electrifying fight week for both fighters. On Saturday night (Sunday in Manila), he will know if he is up to challenge the 8 world division champion Manny Pacquiao.

“I work very hard, I’m sure Manny worked hard and I’m expecting to have a great fight,” he said.

Mosley admitted that he still needs to shed a few pounds before the weigh-in on Friday and meet the required weight for the welterweight division.

“My weight is good right now, I’m around the weight. I just need to cut a couple of pounds, but I’m good, and I’ll be good for the weigh-in on Friday,” he said.

Meanwhile, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum confirmed that Hollywood and sports superstars and notable personalities, are expected to be in attendance to watch the Pacquiao-Mosley live at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

“You cannot believe the number of people coming from Hollywood, the number of big business tycoons who will be in. It will be a star-studded audience,” Arum said.

It has been two years since Las Vegas played host to a Pacquiao fight, and with Manny’s fight against Shane Mosley on Saturday night, Las Vegas is expected to be filled with another exciting event that will leave an impression in the world of boxing.

Billionaire Pacquiao is PHL’s richest congressman

World boxing superstar and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquaio is the country’s richest congressman with over P1 billion of declared wealth, an administrative officer of the House of Representatives said Wednesday.


Lawyer Ricardo Bering of the chamber’s Records Management Service said that based on an initial assessment of last year’s statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs) submitted by lawmakers, Pacquiao topped the wealthiest House members in the 15th Congress.

“Congressman Pacquiao is the richest. He declared more than a billion pesos net worth,” he told reporters Wednesday.

ESPN Magazine pegged Pacquiao’s total earnings from boxing matches to $32 million (almost P1.3 billion) last year.

The Filipino boxing icon is set to face off with American boxer Sugar Shane Mosley in a World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title match on Sunday.

A decade after his US debut Pacquiao a sensation

LAS VEGAS (AP) – It was 10 years ago this summer and Oscar De La Hoya was the big attraction, as he often was on Saturday nights in this gambling town.


 

Many of the high-rollers who came to watch De La Hoya fight Javier Castillejo hadn’t even made their way to their $1,000 ringside seats at the MGM Grand hotel when a 121-pounder from the Philippines made his U.S. debut.

Manny Pacquiao had taken the fight on two weeks’ notice. His chances of beating rising star Lehlohonolo Ledwaba were considered so slim that oddsmakers refused to even put a line up on it.

Pacquiao would give Ledwaba such a beating that the fight didn’t last six rounds. Then he was gone, leaving the arena like the other undercard fighters to clear the way for the main event.

Those who watched that night saw promise, sure. But no one in the arena would have believed what was to come.

A decade later, Pacquiao is the star, fighting Saturday night in the same ring where he had his coming out party. He’ll make a minimum of $20 million to take on Shane Mosley in a bout that should only further cement his place among the great fighters of his time.

And he’ll do it wearing yellow gloves, because there are fights that are bigger than those taking place in the ring.

“All my life I’ve had to fight. As a child, I had to fight just to eat,” Pacquiao said. “The biggest fight in my life is not in boxing. The biggest fight in my life is how to end poverty in my country.“

The yellow gloves to promote unity against poverty aren’t just a symbolic gesture. Neither was getting elected to congress in the Philippines.

Pacquiao is celebrated like no other Filipino athlete. But his legacy may one day be more important for what he does outside the ring.

He hands out money to strangers for the asking. He bought land recently to build subsidized housing for the homeless. And he went directly to Philippine president Benigno Aquino III to ask for $5 million for a badly needed hospital in his Sarangani Province.

He got it, because no one other than Floyd Mayweather Jr. has ever said no to Manny Pacquiao.

“I’ve said it many times,” promoter Bob Arum said. “The Philippines has a social safety net and they call it Manny Pacquiao.“

Boxing, of course, is Pacquiao’s day job, and it’s one he’s excelled at in recent years. He gave De La Hoya such a beating a few years back that he sent him into retirement, and he’s put on a string of sensational performances against some of the biggest names around.

The only name missing is Mayweather, though Pacquiao seems tired of the topic. Mayweather hasn’t fought in a year and shows little interest of getting in the ring with Pacquiao in what could be boxing’s richest fight ever.

“I’m the kind of person who doesn’t want to talk about someone behind his back,” Pacquiao said. “He did his best in boxing. He contributed to the history of boxing. Let’s talk about the fight on Saturday.”

The problem is, you can’t talk about Saturday’s fight without talking about Mayweather. Part of the reason for that is that Mayweather dominated Mosley in winning a decision last May and Pacquiao’s performance against the same foe will be used as a measurement for who would hold the upper hand should the two eventually meet.

Assuming they ever meet, that is. Mayweather has legal issues and he also seems to have issues with the fact there’s a fighter out there would have a legitimate chance of handing him his first professional defeat.

“If he (Mayweather) doesn’t participate in an event pretty soon he’s going to become totally irrelevant,” Arum said.

Right now, though, Pacquiao is just thinking about Mosley, who may give him a better fight than most boxing fans expect. Yes, he’s 39 in a young man’s sport and, yes, he looked bad in his last two fights. But Mosley still has the speed to match up with Pacquiao and he’s never been knocked out in his career.

Pacquiao warned at Wednesday’s final prefight press conference that Mosley is dangerous. But he didn’t seem especially fearful as the two boxers posed chin-to-chin for photographers and Pacquiao tried unsuccessfully to stop from bursting out laughing.

When they finished, Pacquiao walked over to the edge of the stage in the showroom at the MGM, leaned over and shook hands with Mosley’s father, Jack, and several other friends and family members. In his suit he looked more politician than fighter, someone pressing the flesh for their votes rather than preparing to beat up on their guy.

He’s done remarkable things as a fighter since making his debut here a decade ago, made more money than he ever thought imaginable. The best thing about Pacquiao, though, may be how he’s grown in stature as a man.

‘Pacman vs Floyd to get bigger if Pacquiao KOs Mosley’

The uncle of undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes the bigger fight between his nephew and superstar Manny Pacquiao will push through if the Filipino dynamo succeeds in knocking out “Sugar” Shane Mosley.


Jeff Mayweather, a retired boxer-turned-boxing coach, told FightHype.com that Pacquiao knocking out Mosley means more interest for the possible super fight between the Filipino champion and Floyd Jr.

“If he does knock him out, that’s good because it’s good business for the fight because the fight becomes even bigger between Manny and Floyd,” said Mayweather, who fought as a boxing pro in the 1990s.

Earlier, Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, predicted that his prized fighter will be the first boxer to beat Mosley by stoppage.

“I’d say he’ll stop him in six, seven rounds,” the esteemed coach said.

Mayweather, however, believes that Pacquiao will have a hard time doing this against the 39-year-old Mosley.

“He’s (Mosley) been durable his entire career and I don’t think that he’s completely done,” said Mayweather.

He said Mosley has faced guys bigger and stronger than Manny, and all of them failed to stop the American boxer.

“I’m not a Manny hater or anything like that, but I just don’t see Manny knocking Shane out. If he does, more power to him,” said Mayweather.

The closest Mosley got to a knockout loss was when he was knocked down twice by a bigger Vernon Forrest in 2002.

Charice to sing anthem in Pacquiao-Mosley fight

International singing sensation Charice will sing the country’s national anthem in the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley showdown at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 7. (May 8 in Manila)
Like in his previous fights, it was Pacquiao who handpicked the 18-year-old rising Asian pop star to sing “Lupang Hinirang,” according to the Filipino boxing icon’s advisor, Michael Koncz.
Koncz said they talked to Charice in Los Angeles about singing the anthem. He said Charice is already excited to sing before millions of boxing enthusiasts from around the world who are expected to tune in to the much anticipated fight.
He added that Team Pacquiao feels honored that Charice agreed to sing in the match.
In 2009, Charice, who is behind hit single “Pyramid,” expressed her desire to sing the national anthem in one of Pacquiao’s fights.
That time, the People’s Champ was facing British boxer Ricky Hatton.
Post-fight concerts
Meanwhile, Pacman is not only preparing for his showdown with Mosley, he is also busy rehearsing for his post-fight concerts.
Pacquiao said he would go straight to his rehearsals with his MP Band after training at the Wild Card Gym.
Pacquiao said singing relaxes him. “It’s fun. I like music and I like to sing.”
It has been a tradition for the Team Pacquiao to hold a concert after every fight.
This year, he and his MP Band will stage 2 shows – one in Las Vegas and another in California on May 10. He promised his fans that he will deliver a knockout performance for them.
Singer Madonna Decena, who is part of the band, said she enjoys working with Pacquiao.
“It’s very enjoyable, I love working with him. It’s always a thrill and it’s an honor to share the stage with him siyempre. Best fighter in the whole world, di ba?” she said.
On top of his concerts, Pacquiao is also excited to appear again on ABC’s late night program “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” It will be his 4th appearance on the television show. –Report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News

Top Rank Promotions appear confident Manny Pacquiao is set to blow Sugar Shane Mosley away in their World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title fight two weeks from now.

Otherwise, what’s the rationale behind the promotional outfit’s formal written offer for Mexican nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez to fight the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter six months from now?

Golden Boy Promotions Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Schaefer in an interview by veteran ESPN boxing columnist Dan Rafael said from the looks of it, Top Rank appears taking lightly the May 7 title bout with Mosley, a three-time world champion himself.
“What’s the urgency of locking in Pacquiao’s October fight before he has fought Mosley? I just find the timing strange that you would do that before a big promotion. Maybe Top Rank discounts Shane’s chances. Maybe they just feel it’s important to have that opponent lined up for Manny now.”
It was also Schaefer who disclosed about the offer tendered by Top Rank on Marquez, who has yet to agree to a new contract term with Golden Boy after his previous deal with the outfit expired last February.
Schaefer said the formal offer was made last April 21 and was given by Top Rank’s lawyer to the attorney of Golden Boy.
“Part of the deal includes a rematch provision in case Marquez would win,” said Schaefer. “So Pacquiao could potentially be tied up for quite a while.”
The Golden Boy executive added that financial terms were also covered by the offer, including guaranteed purse and the possible share of the pay-per-view profits to be received by Marquez.
Schaefer said Golden Boy has already talked to Marquez, 36, about new terms of his contract and possible fights under the company owned by the great Oscar De La Hoya.
But Marquez is holding up until now, understandably since the camp of the Mexican veteran is still hoping of landing a rich, third fight with the fighting congressman from the Philippines.
Schaefer, however, pointed out that despite Marquez remaining unsigned, Golden Boy still holds a right to match any offer from other promotional outfits at least until February 2012.
The stained relationship between De La Hoya and Top Rank chairman Bob Arum has time and again denied the final chapter to a supposed to be Pacquiao-Marquez trilogy.
The two boxing stars drew their 2004 title encounter notwithstanding the three knockdowns Pacquiao scored against Marquez in the opening round.
In their 2008 rematch, Pacquiao was fortunate enough to eke out a controversial split decision in a fight not a few boxing experts believed Marquez won.
Top Rank refused to comment on the offer it made to Marquez.
“I have no comment on anything regarding Marquez. We have said that Marquez would be one of the possible opponents for Pacquiao after the fight with Mosley if he is successful against Mosley on May 7. But I have no comment. I am concentrating on promoting a fight on May 7,” said the Top Rank president Todd duBoef. – RCJ, GMA News

Normally, trainers and strength and conditioning coaches tend to complain that fighters don’t train hard enough. But in the case of pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao its just the opposite.


Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza told the Inquirer that while Pacquiao looks great “I just hope that he slows down a little bit. I’m really worried that he’s pushing too hard. He needs to be extra careful.”

Pacquiao sparred twelve rounds on Saturday, going six with welterweight Shawn Porter and three each with longtime sparring partners, lightweights Raymund Beltran (24-4, 16 KO’s) and David Rodela (15-3-3, 6 KO’s) who has a scheduled fight next week.

Ariza said “I think Pacquiao looks great man. He is really focused on this one and I don’t see tnhis fight going more than five or six rounds.”

The strength and conditioning guru who teamed up with celebrated trainer Freddie Roach some two weeks before Pacquiao scored a dominating 9th round stoppage to win the WBC lightweight title from David Diaz said Pacquiao has “too much pressure, too much power, his speed, his footwork. He looks very good.

Ariza said he has “never seen him like this for a long time.”

Even as he prepares for his WBO welterweight title defense against former three-time world champion Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 7, Pacquiao is excited about a career move of a different kind with the release of his CD single/DVD “Sometimes When We Touch.”

Pacquiao who sang the song in his TV appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Show prior to his masterful conquest of the much bigger Antonio Margarito, Pacquiao used breaks during training to record the unforgettable, iconic ballad.

Pacquiao worked with the same production team that piloted the song to the top of the charts in 1977 with songwriter and original singer Dan Hill in his corner and producers Mathew McCauley and Fred Mollin Initial reviews say Pacquiao “delivers a passionate performance that shows the warmth and courage in the boxer’s heart.” The CD/DVD will be available on April 28 at iTunes and Amazon.com while a preview is available onwww.mannysings.com.
