UAAP Season 79 will formally kick-off on September 3 on the grounds of this year’s host, UST. With UAAP officials citing that athletes scheduled to play on opening day are worn by the opening ceremonies, UAAP will not have any games scheduled after the opening ceremonies. UAAP Men’s Basketball will tip-off the day after the opening ceremonies.
UAAP Men’s Basketball Championship Format
The tournament will feature a double round robin elimination with every team facing each other twice. The top four teams will advance to the final four phase.
Regular Final Four Format. If no team sweeps both elimination rounds, the top and second seeds, having a twice-to-beat advantage, will face the third and fourth seeds. Winners will advance to a best-of-three finals. First team to win twice will be crowned as UAAP Men’s Basketball Champions.
Step Ladder Final Four Format. If a team wins all elimination round games, the team earns a right away finals berth. The third and fourth seed will face each other in a knockout match, the winner will face the second seed, the former having a twice-to-beat disadvantage. Winner of the match will proceed to face the top seed in a best-of-three finals series.
