Under Armour Unveils Brand House in Cebu

Performance footwear, sports gear and apparel innovator Under Armour (UA) continues to expand its reach in the Philippines with the opening of a brand house in Cebu City on May 22.

The first in southern Philippines, the 164 square-meter UA brand house is conveniently located on the ground level of Ayala Center Cebu.  This ups the number of exclusive UA outlets in the Philippines to four, further underscoring the importance of the country as growth area for the Baltimore-headquartered firm.  Customers can browse and purchase a range of innovative, quality merchandise the company has been famous for since its inception 20 years ago.

Highlighting the opening of UA’s new brand house is the Armour Challenge – open to male and female participants, aged 18 years old and above on a first-come-first-served basis.  The competition, to be held at the Ayala Center Cebu’s Activity Center, consists of three physical challenges:  mountain climbers, squats, and burpees.  The fastest to complete the exercises will win a UA tank or sleeveless top and a discount coupon.  All other participants automatically receive discount coupons as well.  Famous husband- and-wife fitness coaches and UA brand ambassador Jim and Toni Saret will be on hand to give valuable fitness and training advice to participants and the general public.  A former national athlete, Jim was educated here and in the US on sports science and is the founder and training director of APEX (Athletic Performance Enhancement) Sports Training Inc.  Like Toni, he was one of the trainers in the Biggest Loser Philippines television program.  The two presently host MetaBEATS, a fitness show on the Lifestyle Channel.

DZMM Takbo Para Sa Pamilyang Pilipino 2016

DZMM Radyo Patrol 360 in cooperation with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya and Runrio Inc will be hosting their yearly running event this coming May 29, 2016 at the Quirino Grandstand, Manila tagged as “Takbo Para Sa Pamilyang Pilipino.”  DZMM Takbo has been organizing this running event since 2011, aiming to help DZMM’s scholars from Ondoy, Sendong and Habagat-affected areas which was tagged then as “Takbo Para sa Karunungan.”  This 2016, it continues to run with the theme “Takbo Para sa Pamilyang Pilipino” with the goal of seeing all 75 DZMM Scholars finish their elementary education.

Presenting the Alaska’s Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars 2016

After weeks and months of conducting Alaska Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Regional Selection to pick the best of the best from Baguio, Davao, Cebu and Manila, the top 50 boys and 24 girls from each regions were advanced to the final selection stage in National Training Camp at The Don Bosco  Makati on April 22-24.  During the 3 days, they were individually scored on how they play and how they applied what they have learned.  In the morning of day 3, twenty girls and 20 boys were chosen and grouped to play the final game.  And after the Adrenaline-boosted game, 10 boys and 5 girls were chosen to be the Alaska Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars 2015.

National Geographic Earth Day Run 2016 Takes Environmental Race to Five Countries

One of the biggest running events in the Philippines, the National Geographic Channel’s Earth Day Run, will be going international when it marks its 7th year on April 17, 2016.  The event will be happening simultaneously for the first time in 5 cities across the region: Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tai Chung, and Manila.

The event has been consistently helping in promoting sustainable living and supporting environmental advocacy utilizing the popular platform of running for 7 years.  This year, in combination of thousands of registered runners from the other countries, Earth Day Run 2016 will be the largest collection of running Eco Warriors in the history of the race.

The beneficiaries of this event are the following:

ENDANGERED SPECIES CONSERVATION – Irrawaddy Dolphin research and conservation in Malampaya Sound, Palawan. These dolphins are critically endangered in the country, with as few as 40 left in Malampaya Sound, Palawan.

CLIMATE CHANGE SOLUTION – The Earth Hour or ‘Gift of Life’ village in Monreal, Masbate is a showcase of WWF solutions. Local villages will receive portable solar lamps, while being trained to construct ‘vertical gardens’ and ferro-cement rainwater harvesters.

WATER – Reforestation efforts for the Ipo Watershed in Bulacan, which supplies Metro Manila with fresh water.

OCEANS – Marine Protected Area (MPA) and coral reef conservation in Apo Reef in Occidental Mindoro.  Apo Reef is Asia’s largest reef and among the most productive marine systems on Earth.

Earth Day Run will be held on April 17, 2016 that will traverse the race route of Bonifacio Global City and McKinley West.  Race categories of this event includes 5k, 10k 21k, and 42k.  Earth Day Run 2016 expects to register 20,000 runners this year and slots are open via online and in-store registrations from March 1 – March 31, 2016 and racekit claiming will start on April 9 – April 11 at SM Aura.
