Christmas Gift Experiences For The Extreme Sports Nut In Your Life

Whether it’s our girlfriend, boyfriend or best friend, our brother, mother or lover, we all know an extreme sports nut who’s never happier than when they’re riding an adrenaline high on top of a cliff, the crest of a wave or 100 meters below sea level. We love these people and want to give them a Christmas gift to remember. For these adrenaline junkies, a tie pin or a gift voucher just isn’t going to cut it. As nice as it can be to have a gift to keep and look back on over time, sometimes the best gift is an experience. Memories, after all, can be carried round wherever we go. If you’re looking for a fun and memorable experience for them (or for both of you together) any one of these extreme experiences will be way more satisfying than a bottle of cologne…

Paintballing for two

If the love of your life is crazy about extreme sports, what could be more romantic than launching a military assault together? Paintball adventures are a fun way to bond whether you’re fighting side by side or finding tactically efficient ways to destroy one another on the battlefield. When the paint has been scrubbed out of your hair and fingernails and the bruises have faded, the memories will last for years to come.

Bubble football

If you know someone who’s tried zorbing but found it a little too tame, bubble football is for them. Zorbing (the act of propelling one’s self across land or water in a giant plastic bubble) is usually done downhill, with zorbers tumbling down before rolling to a gentle stop. Bubble football takes place on flat land with players’ torsos wrapped in 1.6m diameter zorbing balls with only their legs free to move. Much bumping between players, falling and hilarity ensues.

Land sailing

Taking to the seas with the wind in your hair is a truly thrilling experience, but if you like in a land locked state with miles of arid desert all around you, there’s no need for you to miss out on this experience. Land sailing is just as thrilling and is usually done on flat, sandy ground. The beginnings of land sailing have been traced back to ancient Egypt and when you try it, it’s easy to see why it has attracted thrill seekers for centuries as they travel at speeds of up to 50mph as the landscape congeals into a blur all around them. If you know someone who likes their sports fast and thrilling this is the experience for them.

Scuba diving

Whether your gift is intended for a romantic attachment or not, it’s hard to deny that there’s a compelling romanticism to scuba diving. The shimmering and colorful world of the underseas kingdom can look like a whole new world and everyone remembers the first time they saw it. If you’re after something that’s as magical as it is exhilarating, scuba diving is the way to go.
Of course, these experiences are just the tip of the iceberg. If you want to give a loved one the gift of a thrilling and memorable extreme sports experience there are few better ways to make their Christmas.

Extreme Sport of the Week: All-Mountain Biking

All-mountain biking involves more variety in terrain, and extremely challenging obstacles. It is actually just riding through a mountain’s natural terrain. For most Filipinos, biking in the city trails is enough. It’s already too dangerous to bike somewhere that’s full of rolling hills and rocks. The unpredictability of bike trails is enough thrill for some cyclists. How much more unpredictable and dangerous can biking in an actual mountain be?

Downhill biking, a big part of AM Biking
Turns out, it is called an extreme sport. Mountaineering is already enough for most people. Hiking a mountain seems dangerous enough. But biking through a mountain itself, that’s something else. It takes extreme dexterity, carefulness, and rock-hard balls to do it.
If you’re not into it, have an open mind. But if you are interested, read on. If you live in the Metro (which most of you do), it’s not impossible to do all-mountain biking. You just have to go out of your way to do it. However, the all-mountain biking trails in the Philippines are very rare. Unlike the ones in the US, most  AM trails in the Philippines are just tamed-down versions. You can find those kinds of AM trails at Rizal and some parts of Quezon City. It’s enough challenge for most, though.

AM Biking – Dangerous and Deadly

Yes, all-mountain biking is dangerous. There is a chance for you to die from it. But so in most situations, if you think about it.  With all-mountain biking, you only have to take extreme caution and have extreme fun.

2015 details of the PhilBike Expo below

Flatland BMX champions and Red Bull athletes Jorge “Viki” Gómez from Spain and Matthias Dandois from France are slated to welcome biking enthusiasts at the PhilBike Expo 2015 and a series of activations from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5, 2015.

Gómez, who turned professional back in 2000 at age 19, is a two-time World Championship Series winner who defines flatland biking as a “fight between mind, gravity, and physics combined with movement inertia; a way of surpassing the limits of your imagination.”

Throughout his 15-year career, the Spaniard has gained global recognition by claiming multiple championships at some of the most prestigious Flatland competitions: European X Games, Asia Championship, and the Red Bull Circle of Balance – styled as the sport’s version of the Superbowl. His participation in competitions and exhibitions has brought him to more than 45 countries in Europe, Asia, and North America.

Born in Paris, France, Dandois has been involved in the sport since 2002. Back then as a 13-year-old, he was first into street riding until he saw another biker practicing flatland at his local skate park. Interest piqued, he decided to shift to the new discipline. Six years later, he was declared the best flatlander in the world.

Since then, the Red Bull athlete has added his signature touch to BMX by blurring the lines between street and flatland riding. His attempts to push the boundaries of the sport have been rightly rewarded with titles from some of the best gatherings of international BMX talent: the Dew Tour Ocean City, VANS rebeljam, FISE World Montpellier, Arnette O’Marisquiño III, and BMX World Championships.

The PhilBike Expo opens to trade and media visitors on Oct. 2 and to the public on Oct. 3 and 4 at the SMX Convention Center, Halls 2-4. Aside from gathering favorite cycling brands, the three-day event will also feature several competitions and activities for beginners and advanced riders alike.

To be judged by Gómez and Dandois and sanctioned by the Asian Extreme Sports Federation of the Philippines, the winner of the National BMX Freestyle Championships – advanced category will get the chance to represent the country in international competitions.

Other events include: MANILA FIXED GEAR Harabas Criterium; Mountain Bike Time Trial and Tricks; Pinoy Mt. Biker Rat Race; Fastest Fold; and bike lessons hosted by the National Bicycle Organization. Cash prizes and special items await contest winners.

Too Extreme Sports: Base Jumping parachute attached to the skin!

American Josh Miramant stunt, base jumping

Ouch! this is what I am telling myself, while watching this video. I am a sports fan and have tried a lot of difffrent sports and probably willing to try base jumping, but this type of base jumping is too extreme for me.
American Josh Miramant, 28, decided a normal base jump wasn’t extreme enough so he attached a parachute to his back and jumped of a cliff in Ton Sai, Thailand. The Island is a sight to see, its a relaxing place but his stunt will make you cringe.
