4 Famous Sports Stars Also Well-Known for their Love of Casinos and Betting

Michael Jordan, Basketball Player, Nba, Man, Sports

There’s nothing denying the fact that professional sports persons make a hell of a lot of money! Furthermore, a good number of them enjoy betting on popular sports events and playing casino games. Their bet amounts can often range from a few hundreds to sometimes millions of dollars. A good number of them are also actively switching to online casinos because of the convenience and flexibility offered by such online platforms.
Online casinos offer a great way to enjoy the thrills and spills of the casino, without having to leave the comfort of your home. In a world where we use the internet for everything, they are becoming the preferred way to gamble for famous people, sports people such as the ones mentioned in this article, and everyone else inbetween. If you want to see what all of the hype is about, then you should check out these knock-out real money casino games at All Slots.
Let’s now tell you about some of the biggest names in sports who are also well-known for their gambling habits.

Michael Jordan

Considered the biggest sports name in all of the world, Michael Jordan is a basketball NBA legend who greatly loves betting and casino games. He used to regularly visit the Atlantic City where he was recognised for his huge bets. On one occasion, he lost $ 165,000 in one go, however bounced back quickly.
Jordan continues to indulge in high-stakes betting even after retirement and doesn’t look like quitting anytime soon!

Charles Barkley

Both Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley are long-time friends and just like the former, Barkley also loves gambling. In one of his interviews to the sports channel ESPN, he confessed having spent more than $ 10 million on high-stakes bets!
Furthermore, on one occasion, Barkley spent over $ 2.5 million within a span of six hours playing blackjack in a casino. What more, he was even sued by the Las Vegas’ The Wynn Casino for having defaulted on gambling markers worth $ 400,000.
Although he doesn’t admit to regular gambling still, you can often find him discussing casino games and betting on some of the popular online casino forums.
Floyd Mayweather Jr, Boxer, Boxing, Athlete

Floyd Mayweather Jr

That he is nicknamed money is because of some reason. The world famous boxer is also a notorious athlete and a regular gambler. He had once bet $ 5.9 million on the Miami Heat to emerge winners in the game number seven in the NBA finals and game number five in the East finals.
While this may seem very outlandish for most people, $ 5.9 million is merely a fraction of his total assets, as his annual income is known to be well over $ 90 million. Floyd Mayweather Jr is hugely popular for his extravagant wagers and continues to indulge regularly at the Las Vegas high-stakes tables.

Wayne Rooney

The current Everton star and the former Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney once revealed that he had spent more than £ 1 million on gambling even before he turned 25. He can be regularly seen in various Manchester casinos, where it’s normal for him to spend more than £ 65,000 within couple of hours!

Gambling and sports stars have had a long-term relationship. Psychologists are of the opinion that because professional athletes are fond of the thrill offered by their occupation, they seek such thrill outside of it as well.

Nike NBA City Edition Uniforms Unveiled

When Nike and the NBA formalized their partnership earlier this year, both brands focused on bringing change to game day.
With the introduction of uniform Editions, Nike and the NBA shook up tradition. Rather than fall to home, away and alternate conventions, each Edition has a purpose: celebrating elements of the league’s 30 franchises.
Following the reveal of the Association, Icon and Statement Editions, Nike unveils the fourth uniform category, The City Edition. These designs honor the fans – those who, 41 times a year, take pilgrimage at their local arena, and whose passions help define each respective team’s identity.
The Nike NBA City Edition uniforms represent insights and emotion from the court to the upper deck to the cities’ streets, in pursuit of a unique way to capture each team and its city in a way that respects the past and present of the clubs while also positioning them for the future.
The following is an in-depth look at a few of the City Edition uniforms for this season.

Since 1960, the Lakers have propelled countless athletes to stardom, each helping to rally the city around the purple and gold. With this in mind, the franchise has turned over the City Edition designs to honor some of its most famous players as part of the “Lore Series.”

Kobe Bryant is the first Laker legend to inspire the team’s City Edition design. The uniform features a signature Black Mamba print and LA/24 on the belt buckle. The organization’s winning tradition is referenced by the inclusion of 16 stars on the uniform’s side panels to represent every NBA Championship the Lakers have won.

Since 1957, the Boston Celtics have won 17 NBA titles, more than any other team in the league. Whether led by one of the game’s most dominant big men ever, a sharp shooting “legend”, or a clutch scorer who always told the “truth”, the Boston Celtics define the word “dynasty.”  While Boston has seen many different leaders and legends, all of the franchise’s success happened under the same roof.  The parquet floor of “The Garden” has become synonymous with the Celtic green and white.

The Celtics City Edition uniform pays tribute to this unique hardwood floor and the man credited with starting the dynasty, Red Auerbach. The belt buckle is accentuated with the iconic banner design to match the crowded TD Garden rafters and highlights the Celtics’ most recent NBA Championship in 2008. Gray, the color of unity, was incorporated in the uniform to signify the large regional fan base spread across New England that rallies behind the Celtics year in and out.

It is safe to say the basketball gods have smiled on the Golden State Warriors. The franchise has prospered more than any other club in recent years, thanks to a coach with a championship pedigree and a collection of new age stars.

Proud residents of Oakland, the Warriors have represented the entire Bay Area since their arrival on the West Coast in 1962. The Warriors relocation coincided with the birth of San Francisco’s Chinatown, a population that brought diversity to the city and quickly grew in size and impact — and is a central influence for the team’s City Edition uniform, which pays tribute to Chinese culture in the Bay Area and icons of prosperity. The Chinese characters for prosperity are proudly placed on the belt buckle while the chest logo combines the Golden Gate Bridge and classic Chinese symbolism. The suspension bridge detail is shared with the club’s other uniform Editions.

The Cleveland Cavaliers represent what hard work can achieve. Inspired by the pride and spirit of an entire community, the team is united by an all-for-one-and-one-for-all attitude to protect and “Defend The Land” and its home court together.

For more than 75 years, the iconic giant “Guardians of Transportation” sandstone sculptures have stood guard over Cleveland’s Hope Memorial Bridge to protect travelers entering and leaving the city. The side panels of the Cavaliers City Edition uniform represent the Guardians but with a team-specific twist: The Cavs shield logo is inset as the head of each sculpture. Further graphic inspiration from the Guardians’ robes and a belt buckle featuring the silhouette of the state of Ohio symbolize the team’s stature as a regional protector. If those features aren’t clear enough, “The Land” is emblazoned across the chest to offer direct tribute to the entire Northeast Ohio area.

Milwaukee is defined by two things: the cold winters that roll in off the edge of Lake Michigan and Cream City brick, formed from the clay found in the Menomonee River Valley. While the latter is a hallmark of the local area’s architecture, the former is responsible for fostering the unique grit and determination of its populace. The city’s current Bucks, young, ambitious and fittingly idiosyncratic, know that these characteristics are critical to their success.
Just as the distinctive clay is the foundation upon which Milwaukee was built, the color is the foundation for the Bucks Cream City Edition uniform. The uniform draws additional color inspiration from the full palette of the city and its surrounding region. The Cream City rainbow pattern brings the blending of the urban landscape, with a green ode to Wisconsin’s lush landscapes and a blue that pays tribute to Milwaukee’s etymological designation as a gathering place by the water, to the forefront. There is no escaping the Buck head proudly displayed on the jersey, while a silhouette of the state of Wisconsin appears on the belt buckle graphic. All of the elements combine to honor the hardworking and passionate fans that have supported the team since 1968.

The Memphis Grizzlies, who revealed their City Edition uniforms as a part of their Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration earlier this month, will be one of the first teams to wear their uniform on court when they face the Los Angeles Lakers on January 15, the birthday of the Civil Rights icon.

All 30 teams in the NBA will get a new City Edition uniform every year, with influences coming from a myriad of places, but always focused on the fans and city that support them. As you will see from the full lineup below, each team’s uniform honors an important part of their lineage.

Is Leasing A Car Better Than Buying One?

What is leasing?

When you lease a can, you essential rent it. It’s almost like buying it for yourself, except you pay a lower price as it’s not completely your responsibility. Just like buying a car, you have access to drive it whenever you want, but you have to pay in installments to keep it. Leasing a car can be either more or less expensive for you than buying one on your own, depending completely on your lifestyle. So how do you know if you should lease a car instead? Well, you need to look at your overall situation, like what you like to do in your free time, what you do for work, and how much you make!

Who is leasing for?

Leasing a car can seem like a cheaper alternative at first, but that really depends on the individual. You often hear of people who are wealthier leasing cars on the more expensive side of the spectrum, but the savings mostly come down to how you treat the car and how long you want it for. Basically when you lease a car, you have to stick to a contract and you can’t go back on it, so you have to make sure you’re prepared to pay fully on those installments, otherwise, you might find yourself having to pay for extra months.
You might find that if you want full freedom with your car, leasing isn’t the right step for you. The amount you use it can affect your fees too, so not only would you have to pay for extra fuel, but you’ll be paying the extra mileage fees instead. You also need to consider the wear and tear that you might be prone to. If you’re likely to get any kind of scratches or damages on the car, then the repair costs might actually come to more costs that you’d get with your own car. If you’re not really into your car, then certain scratches or bumps wouldn’t be something you would spend your money on fixing.

How does it work?

There are many services out there that you can reach out to for a lease, some of them offer different options and deals based on what car you’re after. You can use services like Intelligent Car Leasing to find out what you might expect to pay, and how the car will be delivered. The process doesn’t include any test drives or visits to their buildings, as you can apply online or by phone, so make sure to have your details on hand! It’s quite convenient that you can have it delivered considering it’s likely you don’t have your own means of travel.
Car leasing is for those who don’t intend to travel much with it and don’t expect to be at risk for any kinds of damage. You need to make sure you’re secure financially and prepared to sit out a whole contract with the car. With your own vehicles, you would be able to just sell it and look for another, however with leasing once the contract is over, you’re not getting the money back that you’ve spent on it.

Warning Signs Your Car Needs a Service NOW

Warning Signs Your Car Needs a Service NOW
If you care about your car, you need to give it your full attention; you need to learn how to spot the warning signs that she’s in need of some serious attention. If you can do this, then you can intervene and have your vehicle serviced before her problems become more serious, and much more expensive to put right.
Below are some of the most common warning signs that a service needs to be booked for your car right now:

The Check Engine Light is Flashing

It’s such an obvious warning sign – I mean it’s a flashing light actually telling you that something is wrong- but so many people ignore it and keep on driving regardless. This is something that you should never do.
Although you don’t have to stop what you’re doing and drive straight to Stuttgart Autos, getting things checked out as soon as you possibly can, will ensure that problems with your engine, such as emissions system failures, which could cause the whole thing to seize up, will be sorted before they snowball.

It’s Smoking from the Hood

If there is smoke coming out of the hood of your car, take it as a very bad sign indeed! This is something that should never happen, and it’s highly likely that it could be caused by an overheating engine. If that’s the case and you leave it be, your engine could soon be caput.
When you’re driving, you should always keep an eye on your vehicle’s temperature gauge and if it gets too high, pull over. If this happens regularly, time to book a service.

There’s Too Much Smoke Exiting the Exhaust

It’s normal to see some smoke coming out of the exhaust – that is what it’s for after all – but if the amount of smoke that spills out of the pipe increases dramatically, and especially if it’s black, it could be a sign that there’s an oil leak and you will need to visit your mechanic as soon as possible.

Transmission Troubles

If your car’s transmission suddenly stops operating normally or you have issues with it on several occasions; perhaps you find it more difficult than usual to get your car up to speed, or you notice unusual noises, don’t wait to take it in and have it patched up because new transmissions are expensive!

She’s Sprung a Leak

If your beloved car has sprung a leak and you notice either patches of green, brown or red underneath your usual parking spot, you need to take your car into the shop. Green patches indicate a coolant leak whereas brown and red could signify leaks in the transmission or oil well – all things that could kill your car if you don’t have them sorted out promptly!
If you’ve noticed patches of water under your car in the summer, and you’ve been using your air-con – don’t worry – that’s probably just a normal result of keeping your car cool.
Noticed any of these warning signs and you’ll be sorry if you don’t get to a mechanic pronto!

Making Smart Choices When it comes to your Car

Saving some money on your car is beneficial for you in so many ways. This might mean you have a little bit more extra spending money each month, or it could even mean you have enough to get a newer model and update your car when the time comes. Whatever you want to save for, or if you just want a bit of extra cash, it can never hurt. There are lots of ways to save money on your car, from deciding which model you want to buy, to thinking about insurance. Here are just a few ideas to get you thinking about making smart choices when it comes to your car. There are so many ways you can start to save money, here are just a few of them.
Making Smart Choices When it comes to your Car

Shop around for Insurance

Everyone needs to get insurance, and it can really put up the general cost of your car. Shopping around for the right one for you though, is always a good idea. This can mean you find deals or someone that can give you a better offer on your model for example. When you are comparing prices though, make sure this is what you’ll actually be getting. Many websites post estimates that seem cheap but actually aren’t. When comparing deals make sure you are seeing the figure you are getting, and not anything else. Many companies use this to entice you in, then make you pay the full price. Sites like Youi PTY can really help you out in your search, however. Online comparison websites are great for this and can save you a lot of time and energy in your search.

Don’t Put Everyone on Your Insurance

If you have a family or shared car, only put those on the policy who will be using it the most. It can really add up if you put multiple people on the policy, who don’t use the car much. Getting insured for a day or so at a time is a lot more cost effective for those who don’t often drive. This is an easy way to save some money.

Drive Safely

This goes without saying, but some people don’t. Protecting that no claims bonus will make sure that your car insurance stays low, and will protect it. This term is used a lot, but remember the definition of this term is slightly different for different insurers. Check with your insurance company about what this term means for them. Not being liable for accidents will, of course, be a lot less costly for you. Paying that extra for your premium can means saving loads more money in the long run.

Get Security

Fitting Your car with a tracker and alarm will also bring your insurance cost down. If your car is less likely to be stolen, insurers will give you a little bit off each month.
There are lots of ways to make smart choices when it comes to your car. These choices can save you money, meaning you can spend it elsewhere.

Christmas Gift Experiences For The Extreme Sports Nut In Your Life

Whether it’s our girlfriend, boyfriend or best friend, our brother, mother or lover, we all know an extreme sports nut who’s never happier than when they’re riding an adrenaline high on top of a cliff, the crest of a wave or 100 meters below sea level. We love these people and want to give them a Christmas gift to remember. For these adrenaline junkies, a tie pin or a gift voucher just isn’t going to cut it. As nice as it can be to have a gift to keep and look back on over time, sometimes the best gift is an experience. Memories, after all, can be carried round wherever we go. If you’re looking for a fun and memorable experience for them (or for both of you together) any one of these extreme experiences will be way more satisfying than a bottle of cologne…

Paintballing for two

If the love of your life is crazy about extreme sports, what could be more romantic than launching a military assault together? Paintball adventures are a fun way to bond whether you’re fighting side by side or finding tactically efficient ways to destroy one another on the battlefield. When the paint has been scrubbed out of your hair and fingernails and the bruises have faded, the memories will last for years to come.

Bubble football

If you know someone who’s tried zorbing but found it a little too tame, bubble football is for them. Zorbing (the act of propelling one’s self across land or water in a giant plastic bubble) is usually done downhill, with zorbers tumbling down before rolling to a gentle stop. Bubble football takes place on flat land with players’ torsos wrapped in 1.6m diameter zorbing balls with only their legs free to move. Much bumping between players, falling and hilarity ensues.

Land sailing

Taking to the seas with the wind in your hair is a truly thrilling experience, but if you like in a land locked state with miles of arid desert all around you, there’s no need for you to miss out on this experience. Land sailing is just as thrilling and is usually done on flat, sandy ground. The beginnings of land sailing have been traced back to ancient Egypt and when you try it, it’s easy to see why it has attracted thrill seekers for centuries as they travel at speeds of up to 50mph as the landscape congeals into a blur all around them. If you know someone who likes their sports fast and thrilling this is the experience for them.

Scuba diving

Whether your gift is intended for a romantic attachment or not, it’s hard to deny that there’s a compelling romanticism to scuba diving. The shimmering and colorful world of the underseas kingdom can look like a whole new world and everyone remembers the first time they saw it. If you’re after something that’s as magical as it is exhilarating, scuba diving is the way to go.
Of course, these experiences are just the tip of the iceberg. If you want to give a loved one the gift of a thrilling and memorable extreme sports experience there are few better ways to make their Christmas.

Buying vs Leasing a Car

Now that we have the option of leasing new cars and there’ll soon be new regulations placed on buying new cars, it makes sense for people to be weighing up the pros and cons. Is it really worth buying a new car when you can lease instead? Which makes more financial sense? It’s important to do your research before going ahead with any kind of big financial commitment, so here’s what you need to know.
Monthly Expenditure

Many people take out finance agreements when buying a new car. Even if you search for your own loan rather than taking out an agreement with the lenders at the car company, you’ll often end up paying a hefty interest rate. In most cases, it works out far cheaper to lease a car and pay monthly installments for an agreed amount of time, rather than take out a loan you’ll have to repay, no matter what happens to the car. Because leasing is still a relatively new concept, you may also benefit from deals for cars on a lease. Do the math and figure out which option is cheaper for you.

Your Savings

Car sales garages will often ask for a down payment on a new car. Whether it’s a deposit to take the car off sale while you figure out your finance options, or a percentage towards the payment of the car, you may need to have some savings set aside to buy a new car. However, when you lease a car, you’re very rarely asked to make a down payment, and if you are, it can usually be wavered by the leasing manager. Therefore, you don’t have to have a huge savings pot to lease the car you want.
Your Mileage

When you buy a new car, the mileage you do in any given week isn’t something you necessarily have to think about too much. It’s your car and you can drive it as much or as little as you like. However, when leasing a car, the mileage you do is all part of the leasing package. You’ll have to agree on how many miles you’ll drive per annum and you may be charged extra for any additional miles you do. After all, the leasing company expects the car back in a certain condition. Although you may have to deal with additional expenses for mileage on a lease car, you’d also have to deal with getting less for your bought car if you sold it with a high mileage in the future.

The Condition of the Car

If you’re notorious for causing scratches or your children like to make a mess in the car, you may want to think twice about leasing. When you sign your agreement, you may have to consent to wear and tear fees, which are likely to happen during the time you drive the car, even if you’re the most cautious driver to ever live. The good news is, some leasing companies put a cap on how much you pay in wear and tear fees.
Which will you choose?

  • Under optimal circumstances, Nike Hyper Court can serve up to 60 people at one time, per court, which allows steady streaming of contents and videos.

  • No, as the two are different from a functional and technologically-driven perspective.

  • Arturo Torres is renowned for working on illustrations for New York Times bestseller Shea Serrano’s “The Rap Year Book: The Most Important Rap Song From Every Year Since 1979 Discussed, Debated and Deconstructed”. It featured more than 150 of Torres’ drawings – a blend of photorealism, as well as youthful and lively 1980s cartoons.
  • With a blend of his artistic craft and tonality – vibrant and youthful – as he dimentionalizes each athlete’s life-size personality to match the murals’ scale, Torres was approached to illustrate and express his vision for Nike Hyper Court with such talent and vision that resonates with basketballers in Manila and around the glbe, in addition to his familiarity with the sport while playing basketball in high school.

  • Arturo wanted every single drawing to have something that represented the athletes in a way, nostalgically paying homage to his roots and affiliation towards comic-book style illustrations.
  • For KD, he focused on capturing the high energy and versatility KD has in every game he plays.
  • For Kyrie, he was inspired by how fast the athlete can move around players and that comes through with the wind depicted going past him in the illustration.
  • Lebron James was depicted to intentionally draw parallels to the fictitious God of Thunder comic character, Thor. Hence, the lightning to amplify the effect, coupled with the athlete depicted “flying”.
  • For Kobe, Torres honed in on the athlete’s ball-handling skills and his ability to remain calm in all scenarios during game-play. Hence, the depiction of smoke at the bottom of the mural.
  • For Westbrook, he draws on the fiery, passionate emotion the athlete brings to the court, depicted through fire and lava.

  • Yes, there are plans to launch more courts in the near future.

How Should Weightlifting Shoes Fit – Find Out Right Here!

How Should Weightlifting Shoes Fit

Hey there! Since you are here, I am sure that you are an iron lady/man in the making. Weightlifting is not everyone’s cup of tea. Unlike running and walkinweightliftinging is only for the elite. Several things can help you become a better weightlifter. I am here to tell you about one of the most important factors, ‘weightlifting shoes.’ Let’s begin with the most commonly asked question.
Why Should You Wear A Weightlifting Shoe?
A lot of people think that it is fine to lift weights with their regular running shoes or CrossFit shoes. Let me tell why it is not such a good idea. Your running shoes are built with extra cushioning which will absorb the impact and the force. They are perfect for running, but for weightlifting, you need a shoe which will help you use all your force to move weight rather than absorbing it. The more force you can produce, the more weight you lift. It’s as simple as that.
When you wear a weightlifting shoe, you can generate more force through the ground and can invariably pull the bar higher. The incredible stability and traction offered by the shoe can help you transform the force you are creating from the floor through your body and into moving the barbell.
How Exactly Does the Shoe help?
Weightlifting shoes come with a raised heel which will allow you to squat into a deeper position by providing an increased ankle range of motion. Your overall position is also improved since it makes you feel more upright. The upright torso along with the raised heel helps you to activate more of your musculature to lift the bar upwards. The strong and consistent base guarantees injury prevention and increased performance.
The best weightlifting shoes have a lot of features that are designed to help to get the maximum out of your lifting session.
Anatomy of a Weightlifting Shoe
In general, weightlifting shoes have the following parts.
Lining: The inside of the shoe has a sock-like fabric. This contributes to the comfort and ease of the shoe.
Eyelets and Eye-stays: The shoe’s laces stay in place because of eyelets and eye-stays.
Strap: The strap is one the significant parts of the shoe. It ensures foot lockdown and comfort of the shoe.
Toe box: The toe box contributes towards flexion. It should be fairly flexible and have room to allow full flexion.
Heel wedge: The raised heel as already mentioned is a significant contributor towards weight lifting. It reduces the amount of dorsiflexion which is needed from the ankle for weight lifting
Insole: The footbed of the shoe which is also known as the insole contributes towards two main factors in weightlifting shoes, comfort and orthotic support.
Midsole: The midsole is the cushioning between the insole and the outsole. In weightlifting shoes, it incorporates the heel wedge.
Outsole: The part of the shoe which is mainly responsible for stability and traction is the outsole. A flat and extremely stiff outsole does a great job.
Last: This part sits below the insole and determines the shape of the shoe. The perfectly shaped ones will fit more snugly in the heel and the arch.
Now that you know the parts of a weightlifting shoe let’s get onto to the important points.
Features of a Good Weightlifting Shoe
Hard Outsole
The outsole as mentioned before is the soul contributor towards the stability and traction of the shoe. The shoe should have a hard, non-compressible sole which will give you a surface that is stable even under hundred pounds of weight. The outsole makes sure that the energy you drive through your feet is not absorbed or misdirected but utilized to lift the weight up
Snug Fit
Here I will be answering the billion dollar question of, how should weightlifting shoes fit. The shoes should fit snugly. They shouldn’t be too tight nor be flopping around your feet. The right fit will give you proper foot support, lateral stability and also protect your ankles.
No-Slip Traction
Weightlifting shoes should have excellent traction. This will keep your feet planted on the ground when you are deadlifting or performing squats. Even if you are performing something as extreme as power cleans and snatches, weightlifting shoes will offer you a fantastic grip
Types of Weightlifting Shoes
Raised Heels
More than 80% of weightlifting shoes come with raised heels. They are the best if you are going to perform deep squats like front squat and high bar back squat. They are also the best choice for Olympic style lifts like the snatch, power clean and for overhead movements. The heels facilitate better leg drive, reduce the amount of ankle flexibility and also prevent injury
Flat Soles
If you are going to perform more of wide stance squats like low bar squats you should go for flat soles. They do not tilt your body forward, hence ensuring that you stay close to the ground. Best for performing deadlifts and Pendlay rows.
Some shoes are built having more than one purpose in mind. The hybrids are mostly designed for lifters who CrossFit. They are lightweight compared to other standard weightlifting shoes.
These shoes are designed having Olympic weightlifters in mind. They are solid and cumbersome and provide unsurpassed stability.
The Wrong Shoes
When it comes to weightlifting, picking the wrong pair of shoes can be a disaster. So here are a few tips to avoid the wrong ones.
Avoid shoes which are soft with compressible soles. Running shoes, Baseball shoes, Casual sneakers all fall under this category. Shoes which do not provide a stable base can increase the likelihood of injury. All shoes with compressible soles fall here. These shoes cause uneven weight distribution which can lead to trouble.
Ladies, Are You Ready To Lift?

You can be a weightlifting champion with the right amount of training and gear. Weightlifting shoes, in particular, can provide you with improved safety, better technique and also ensure stronger lifts. Pick the right ones which fit snugly and bring the medal home!

Ramp Up Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency

One of the biggest concerns of motorists all over the world is the price of fuel. So, if there are a few ways that you reduce costs for yourself, you should be looking to use them. Many of the most effective methods of doing this simply require some common sense solutions while you are driving. Here in this article, we will talk in more detail about a few of the most effective techniques that you can use.
Monitor Your Tyre Pressure Regularly
A huge proportion of motorists are driving around on tyres that are over or underinflated. That is why you should make a habit of checking the pressure every time you go to the fuel station. Better still, you could invest in a tyre pressure monitoring system so you can check them from wherever you are. And you certainly need to test them before you are heading out on long journeys or if a lot of people will be travelling in the vehicle.
Don’t Let the Vehicle Idle
This doesn’t tend to be such a problem with modern cars that are built with a system that stops the car from idling for an extended period of time. But if you are driving an older car and you get stuck in traffic, you should switch off the engine if you are stopped for 30 seconds or more. When you are trying to warm the engine back up again, don’t rev it as you will needlessly be pumping CO2 into the atmosphere.
Drive Smoothly
Learning to read the road ahead is your best way of anticipating times when you need to stop or slow down. Harsh acceleration and braking should be avoided wherever possible. And when you are out on the motorway, you should make use of the cruise control function whenever possible. Research has shown that smooth driving is one of the most effective ways of increasing fuel efficiency by as much as 30 percent.
Lighten Your Load
Rather than driving around with a whole load of unnecessary things all the time, you should instead be aiming to lighten your load and therefore increase your fuel efficiency. Roof racks that aren’t needed create wind drag so it is also worth removing these. Of course, there are a few essentials that you should be carrying around in your trunk at all times, but other than these, lightening your vehicle is always a good thing.
Choose the Best Type of Fuel
What you are actually putting in your car on a regular basis makes a big difference to its performance. Consult with the owner’s manual if you are looking for some more information on what is best for your car. The higher the octane, the higher the price but only a few cars perform best when the premium fuel all the time.
None of these techniques is overly complicated, but they are all worthwhile in your quest to drive a more fuel-efficient vehicle.

Nike News: Designer Jason Petrie on the Lebron 15

Jason Petrie on the Lebron 15

Designer Jason Petrie has worked with LeBron James for more than a decade. Their collective output includes every LEBRON signature from the 7 on, as well as contribution to the ever-popular LEBRON Soldier series. Not surprisingly, the longevity of work realizes a near telepathic bond. Now into the LEBRON 15, Petrie and James have found a groove not only in the familiar but also in where to push boundaries.
Petrie’s initial sketch for the LEBRON 15
Here, Petrie discusses the nuances of his latest design, with special consideration for the Nike BattleKnit that influences the LEBRON 15’s sharp aesthetic.

Going into the 15, what rules do you keep from the line and which do you throw out?

We have three adages: “Lock me down so I can fly,” which came straight from LeBron; “Protect me from myself,” which relates to how we build for season-long comfort; and “Make me light.” We try to keep those rules steady and make sure that we address them in all of his products.

But we always want to be open to new ways to build a shoe. One instance of this was the Soldier 10. It looked so sleek on court. Obviously, LeBron played really well in it and made history. From that, we learned he could play in a little less than we thought and that we were probably overbuilding for him. It opened up our apertures in terms of thinking how we can solve for problems a little differently.

How did you and LeBron begin talking about the aesthetic?

LeBron and I have talked about Flyknit products for a while now, but we never had a conversation about making it look a particular way. He leaves the creative portion of it up to us (unless there is something specific that he’s looking for). The aesthetic of this shoe comes from knit.

We showed him a very early iteration of the Flyknit, and he loved the texture and feel of it. But he still had questions: “Will this work for me? Are you guys sure this is going to hold up?” We went through a lot of testing to make sure it was right.

How did the technology help achieve the look?

We always want the overall vibe of LeBron’s shoe to be aggressive, stylish, modern and classic. Flyknit, with its texture and dimension, defined the aesthetic from the get-go. We let that organic nature of the knit take us to that really aggressive diamond chainmail type of look.

We always want the overall vibe of LeBron’s shoe to be aggressive, stylish, modern and classic.- Jason Petrie

What did you want from the knit?

I wanted there to be a great containment, but not be too bulky. LeBron directed the collar. We had a couple of different iterations along the way, and he was adamant about getting lower and sculpting around the ankle, but still wanting to retain that hugging fit. So that shape is a direct response to his feedback.

How does knit benefit LeBron? What does this knit do?

This new iteration of Flyknit, Nike BattleKnit, is built specifically for LeBron. He needed something more than what knit uppers, to date, could provide for him structurally and also in the way that he wanted it to come to life.

So, we spent a lot of time figuring out what the solution within the knit process would be, and it took the knit innovation team actually knitting the material in a completely different way in order to benefit LeBron, which is really cool, and opened up a bunch of possibilities.

The main benefits we were looking for were containment and strength, but we also needed the things that are great about Flyknit: fit, a dialed design and less waste.

With the knit in one material, one basically fabric part, we’re able to engineer the protection, stretch and performance specifications we want to have for each area of the shoe. It’s an all-in-one package that allows LeBron to feel locked down, feel protected and also be able to move freely to dictate the action on court and to respond and react when he needs.

What is most exciting to you about the upper?

Aside from the performance benefits, which I think is inherent in any Nike shoe, the colors we have coming and some of the things you can do with knit that you can’t do with traditional construction have me really geeked out. It’s just getting started as we explore Flyknit for LeBron.

How do you go about formulating the color stories?

With every shoe in Nike Basketball, we’ve got an amazing team of color and materials designers. LeBron has given us some insight. There are some things that we wanted talk about through his lens. I think you’ll see that throughout the course of the season as we explore those stories and see all these little details and touches that provide this incredible narrative.

What is new about the tooling?

The LeBron 15 has a brand new air unit, a combination of Air Max and Zoom, formed for incredible transition, really great impact protection and a lightweight ride. It’s all the things you would expect out of Zoom Air with the comfort and protection of Air Max.

LeBron loves max Air. Obviously he generates a lot of impact force. The energy return and the rebound and the quick response feel of the Zoom Air in between the pylons and the heel and throughout the midfoot and forefoot allow LeBron to run and jump at full speed, come down with force, absorb that impact and then sprint off in another direction while returning energy to every step of that. It’s a propulsive feel.

How Do The Pro’s Get Past Fitness Plateaus?

Fitness is a dynamic process, never something which is achieved and then stays static in achievement. That’s what makes the art of getting in shape so beautiful; you are continually refining and developing your approach to challenge. Over time, you will become much more adept and able to tackle challenges in your life, because the microcosm of your fitness struggle has contributed to developing your warrior spirit, male or female.
However, those of us who are experienced in fitness know that we can’t act at 100% all of the time. Sometimes, we find ourselves having trouble overcoming the goals we have set for ourselves, even when we have done everything right in the pursuit of our achievements. Even the professional athletes experience this, but luckily they are intelligent and so are their coaches. They are quickly offered alternate means to identify what has gone wrong and to adapt to the new challenge they face. But what advice to do they receive? We’d like to explore that now:

Taking a deload week dedicated to low-intensity cardio, good nutrition and stretching can be of immense benefit to reducing the stress your system has otherwise faced in the recent months. A deload week gives your body the chance to recover from everything it’s been through, and come back bigger and better than ever in the forthcoming months.
Be sure to lessen your calorie intake during this period, but keep your protein and other dietary macros high to prevent you from losing muscle or too much process when you return. Much like a detox, when you return to training your body will feel much better than it otherwise had, and this will give you the platform to attack your goals once more with integrity and hopefully resulting success.

Sometimes, the supplementation schedule you have imbued your diet with isn’t quite as on point as it could be. Taking zinc (ZMA) supplements before bed can help contribute to restful sleep and healthy testosterone levels, as can testosterone injections. It may be that supplementing your healthy grooming could be of immense benefits, such as taking hydrotherapy or ice baths to help recover muscle damage or fatigue in an accelerated way. It could simply be getting more Vitamin D into your system or implementing Fulvic Acid into your diet in an effort to replace the lost supplements that a lack of healthy mineral-dense foods can provide.

Try Harder

Sometimes, everything you’re doing is right. You have the perfect sleep schedule, your body is getting the perfect and most surgically accurate nutrition, and your sporting schedule is ideal. Perhaps, and only perhaps, you need to train harder. It could be that you’ve lost the youthful energy you once had, and need to compromise that with pure grit. It could be that after an injury you’re mentally holding yourself back, and could do with a sporting psychology assessment. Assessing and fixing the attitude you bring to training each morning could have a bigger impact than you know, but be sure you’re not running into this blindly with the possibility of injury.
With these tips, you can be sure to get past your fitness plateaus.

How Long Will It Take You To Get In Shape?

Isn’t this the question that we’re all hoping we can work out the answer to? After all, if it’s a journey that’s going to take a lot of time and effort, is it really worth starting at all? The answer to that is always yes. And the latter? Well, that isn’t as much as a straight forwards answer. Instead, there are a lot of different factors that affect the answer. In fact, the answer to that question is as personal as you are. But if you really want to know how long it’s going to take YOU to get your body into the condition that you want it to be in, here’s what can tell you.

Your Age

First up, there’s your age. And this plays a huge part in your health and fitness. When you’re young, you can often feel like you can run and jump and play for hours. And you can probably carry on like that all through your teens and on into your twenties too. But then, it all starts to slow down. As you approach 30 and surpass it, you will notice that your metabolism starts to slow down. You may also find that exercise feels harder, and that your body gets tired easier. And this contributes to how well you can get (and stay) in shape.

Your Lifestyle

The kind of lifestyle that you choose to lead also has a big impact on things. Although no one choice of lifestyle can be considered “right”, nor wrong, there are things that will help you to get your body into the shape you want it to be in, and things that will hinder your progress. So if you’re serious about getting into shape, you need to make your lifestyle changes stick for the better, and try to focus on a healthier, more-positive version of you.

Your Commitment

The truth is, no matter how young you are, and how healthy your lifestyle is, if you’re not committed, it’s going to be hard work. Consistency and commitment go hand in hand, and being in the best shape of your life doesn’t happen by accident. It’s something that you have to work really hard for. But if you’re committed, that’s as easy done as it is said.

Your Attitude

You should also think about the attitude you have towards your health and fitness too. If you want to get into shape, you have to have the right mindset. As Erny from Are They On Steroids shows us, results are possible, but only when you’re willing to make it happen. And to do that, you need to have the right attitude.

Your Genetics

But it’s also worth noting that your genetics have a huge influence on how well you’re able to get into shape. Every body is different, some will be naturally better at fat burning and building muscle than others. But with a bit of hard work, determination, and dedication, you should be able to get in shape as soon as you want to.

A Look Under the Hood: Nike Therma Showtime Warm-up Jacket, A First of its Kind

Announced in June 2015, Nike’s partnership with the NBA begins with the 2017-18 season. Today, Nike and the NBA detail what makes the Nike Therma Flex Showtime Warm-up Jacket a first-of-its-kind garment.
From left: Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Gordon Hayward of the Boston Celtics, Malik Monk of the Charlotte Hornets
Basketball players want to perform their best and look good doing it. “It gets cold in the arena, so we want to keep our heads warm and still be able to pay attention to the game, or warm up and stay warm,” says Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal. “At the same time, we want to be in something with swag and style.”
But typically, performance and looks take a backseat to comfort when it comes to pre-game gear. “We saw guys warming up in standard team-issued hooded sweatshirts,” says Kurt Parker, Nike VP of Apparel Design. “The hood flopped around when they shot; the sleeves were baggy.”
That got Nike Basketball designers wondering why most players wear non-performance hoodies to warm-up, practice hard, sit on the bench and travel in. “When the players take the court before the game, they need to be able to move freely in any direction, so they usually take the hoodie off or cut off the sleeves,” says Parker. The answer the designers were looking for was clear: Nothing like what the players expressed they wanted to exist.
Armed with this athlete insight, Nike went to work on designing the first performance hooded jacket for NBA players to wear on the court during warm-up. Here’s why this is not only a first-of-its-kind garment but a huge step forward for performance basketball apparel.
THE MATERIAL IS BRAND NEW. To make a performance jacket that’s comfortable, Nike created a new material called Nike Therma Flex. It’s similar to a mid-weight fleece but inverted. “A typical fleece is fuzzy on the inside and flat on the outside, but we made this flat against the skin and super-soft on the outside,” says Parker. “The outside has a dotted texture to it that traps body heat in the fabric, and it’s soft to the touch and smooth against the skin.” So far, the Showtime Warm-Up Jacket is the only product that uses Nike Therma Flex, but the designers say there are plans to create more player and fan gear with it in the coming months.
New Nike Therma Flex fabric is flat against the skin and super-soft on the outside.
IT MOVES WITH THE ATHLETE. Unlike the typical fleece fabric used in standard team-issued hooded sweatshirts, the Nike Therma Flex fabric used in the jacket stretches in every direction, so athletes move freely and quickly without any restrictions from the silhouette. Zippers up the sides allow for additional mobility or venting when desired, while elastic cuffs stop the sleeves from falling over the hand.
A HIGH-TECH HOOD IS COURT-READY. “We learned that most guys prefer to wear a hood up, but it impedes the way they can see and hear, it moves around and it can get really hot,” explains Parker. To solve those problems, the Nike Basketball designers placed mesh over the ears to allow the players to hear their coaches and teammates before the game and to vent and keep them from overheating. The hood opening is carved out around the eye, so when a player has the hood on he can have 100 percent of his peripheral vision. The elastic around the edge helps it fit without draw cords, which players said can be distracting.

THE SEAMS ARE STRATEGIC. Instead of putting the jacket’s seams in the exact same place as the jersey’s (which would mean the seams would stack and as a result rub together), the designers put the seams on the back of the shoulders. “It makes a slimmer silhouette, too,” says Parker. “So, there is a benefit to the contemporary aesthetic in this production.” And rather than using thread, they bonded the seams, so they’re perfectly flat and distraction-free.

Flat, bonded seams sit on the back of the shoulders
Fan versions of the Nike Therma Flex Showtime Warm-up Jacket will be available September 29 on nike.com/nba.

The Mad Science Behind Nike’s NBA Uniforms

Announced in June 2015, Nike’s partnership with the NBA begins with the 2017-18 season. Today, Nike and the NBA share a detailed look into exactly how a team of Nike designers, engineers, pro players and sports scientists worked together to develop the league’s most technically advanced jersey and shorts.
Twenty years ago, basketball was more physical. There was holding and grabbing. The play was slower and more methodical. But then, the rules changed. Shifts to calls on illegal defense (stemming from deregulation of zone defense) and a reduction of allowance of hand checking meant that play got faster and more fluid. In step, players have adapted, becoming incredibly versatile and making quicker decisions.
Teams started playing smaller lineups, and the wide-open offenses once unique to a few franchises have become the new benchmark. “From how the athletes move to the positions they play — even their body types are completely different today than they were five to 10 years ago,” says Kurt Parker, Nike VP of Apparel Design. “That’s why we wanted to dramatically evolve both the performance and look of the uniforms.”
This mission was top of mind when Nike’s partnership with the NBA was cemented in June 2015. Nike designers went to work immediately building the new uniform with the goal to minimize distractions by keeping the athletes cool, dry and completely mobile — all in an updated sleek look. They had 25 years of institutional knowledge to build on and were approaching a once-every-four-years opportunity to get feedback from the world’s greatest athletes: the Rio games.
There, the players debuted the Nike Vapor uniforms that featured high-performance knit jerseys and shorts built with Nike AeroSwift technology. The kit was Nike Basketball’s most advanced to date. “Still, it was our starting point,” says Parker. “To prepare for the NBA, we had to re-examine every part of that uniform, and we’ve changed pretty much everything since Rio.”
Nike engineers and designers focused their re-examination on three areas: movement, thermoregulation and fit. In terms of movement, third-party sports researchers gathered data that showed that no athlete moves quite as diversely as a basketball player. During an average game, a player may cover more than four miles with full-speed bursts that last about 1.6 seconds. An athlete can change directions every two seconds, totaling 1,000 per game. Some jump up to 42 times with an average liftoff time of .16 seconds. “Basketball is a game of transition more than any other sport,” says Parker. “A player will go from sitting on the bench to sprinting top speed to jumping as high as he can within seconds.”
To figure out exactly how to create a uniform that would run, cut and jump with each player, as well as to gather information on temperature regulation, the team put in countless hours of rigorous testing, including everything from snag and burst testing to pilling and wash testing, as well as creating atlas maps — a process that involves taking a digital body scan to evaluate sweat zones, contact zones and where basketball players need full range of motion. “We’ve used atlas mapping before, but this is the first time we’ve done it specifically for NBA athlete body types,” says Parker.
Designers overlaid the three atlas maps to understand how to design a uniform in three dimensions. For example, the maps indicated that the chest produces sweat and it’s a cling zone. “You’ll see guys constantly trying to pull their jerseys off of their chest — LeBron does it all the time,” explains Parker. “So, we realized that we needed to figure out a way for the jersey to wick the sweat without it being too baggy or too tight.”
Because the team was working with an engineered knit fabric, they were able to program the knit structure to create a three-dimensional zone to allow air to flow through and placed tiny nodes on it to help prevent it from sticking to the skin.
The front of the jersey has a dimensional texturized yarn that stands off the skin to help reduce cling and increase breathability. The back of the jersey uses a slightly different open-hole mesh engineered texturized yarn that maximizes breathability and air flow.
“Temperature is huge,” says two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash. “When a fabric breathes better and absorbs sweat better you can stay warm — but not be too warm on the court.” In this case, by helping to improve temperature control, the maps also created a solution for the way the jersey feels. “Typically, the result of the game is decided in the last five minutes, so the last thing you want to do is fuss with your jersey during that time,” says Parker.
Similarly, designers modified the uniform based on range of motion information gleaned from the maps, including scalloping the back of the jersey around the shoulder (rather than using the continuous rib design that’s always previously been used) and shifting the motion vent on the short toward the front so that when a player makes a cut or is on defense, it opens in a spot that allows them to move more freely.
“Typically, players would size up to get more range of motion from their uniforms,” says Parker. “But thanks to these maps we were able to streamline the fit by tailoring the uniforms to their need, resulting in the lightest uniform in NBA history.
Atlas maps indicated an athlete would move more freely if designers adjusted the cut of the armholes around the back of the shoulders.
Designers also shifted the motion vent toward the front of the shorts to facilitate more range of motion.
To put the design to the test and to gather insight on how the athletes feel in the uniforms, several NBA teams including the Jazz, the Mavericks and the Blazers, as well as various college teams tested the uniforms. “They practiced in the uniforms and immediately shared feedback with designers and product managers on things like how much coverage they wanted in the strap or around the armhole, how long the short would be, and so on,” says Parker.
The process was iterative: Nike would research and make a version of the uniform, put it on the athletes for about a week’s worth of practices, take the athletes’ feedback to refine the uniform and create a new silhouette that they would then go back out and test on those same players, and so on, which went on for about a year.
Another key to wear testing was solving for the reality of the players’ diverse body types. The uniform needed to be versatile in that one style had to look amazing on every athlete, but it also needed to feel like it was made specifically for each player. “These guys are superhuman size, so you have to make something that works for KD at 6’9” and 240 pounds, LeBron at 6’8” and 250 pounds, Isaiah Thomas at 5’9” and 185 pounds and everyone in between,” says Parker.
The style was also a consideration. After all, the league ranges from 19-year-old rookies up to 40-year-old veterans, all of who have personal opinions on fit and feel. “We find the older guys are more set in their ways of wanting a bigger, baggier uniform, and then the younger guys are a lot more open to shortening the shorts and slimming the jersey.”

Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics in the new jersey (the league’s slimmest yet) and shorts
(which are shorter and more fitted than past silhouettes).
Beyond the functional and style details, the athletes indicated that honoring their emotional connection to the uniforms was important. “When you make it to the pro level, and Kyrie talked to us a lot about this, it’s like an elite fraternity,” says Parker. “They’re proud of that.” That feeling has the potential to power their performance. “When they look good, they feel good and they play good,” says Parker.

R U Tough Enough? Meet The Transforminator: Arnold Aninion, The Ultimate Fitness Trainer

The Transforminator: Arnold Aninion

Living healthy and staying fit isn’t a walk in the park. If you want to get rock hard abs and brute physical strength, it requires more than just eating right and going to the gym.  Many people nowadays see the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and being fit, but that’s easier said than done. Many people step up to the plate and are up for the challenge. So you want to know the secret to living a healthy and fit lifestyle?
According to one of the ambassadors of this year’s R U Tough Enough?, Arnold Aninion, the secret to success in fitness is being tough. This is because toughness is more than a fad but it is a way of life, he adds. Being physically strong alone doesn’t do the trick anymore; the mental aspect of toughness is needed in being successful in any aspect of life. You will need to have the discipline and strength to be able to achieve and live with this kind of lifestyle. Eating healthy right and exercising everyday is the easy part, but it’s the discipline and your drive to do it long term that makes it difficult.
Arnold is a trusted fitness trainer of different famous celebrities like Solenn Heussaff, Anne Curtis and Isabelle Daza. But his biggest fitness story to date is his celebrity transformation of Raymond Gutierrez. In just three months he was able to coach and guide Raymond to lose a whopping 22 kilograms. According to Raymond, it was an experience he will never forget. He said it wasn’t just a physical battle; it was also a battle of the mind.
It wasn’t always a smooth road for Raymond’s transformation; there were a lot of roadblocks and temptations thrown at him during that time. Arnold recalls Raymond slowing down during the first month. He said that Raymond was even in doubt that he was ever going to lose weight. Arnold remembers telling him “The best thing you could do right now is focus on the journey and learn from it.” Raymond gladly followed and a few months later, boom! 22 kilos, gone!

The Search for The Toughest Pinoy is Back! – KIX Brings Back R U Tough Enough? with “Man versus Woman” Edition

The Search for The Toughest Pinoy is Back!
KIX Brings Back R U Tough Enough? with “Man versus Woman” Edition

Men and women have different views when it comes to defining toughness. While some believe men’s brute physical strength represents toughness, others believe that women’s resilience and emotional endurance are what being tough is all about. But when they are put up against one another, we have to ask, who is tougher?
KIX, the ultimate destination for action entertainment, will find out as it brings back R U Tough Enough? for the third time! This year, the event aims to go beyond the stereotypes by recruiting 5 male and 5 female contestants to face off for a “Man versus Woman” edition.  The contestants will go through a rigorous series of physically demanding and emotionally enduring challenges.  Only one winner can be crowned as the Toughest Pinoy and walk away with the grand prize of PHP 250,000.

Are men going to prove themselves as the tougher gender? Or are women going to finally break the stereotype?

At the media launch, KIX announced that actress-turned-fitness trainer, Aubrey Miles and celebrated fitness guru, Arnold Aninion were chosen as the ambassadors to emphasize this year’s theme of “Man versus Woman”. The ambassadors will lead #TeamAubrey and #TeamArnold respectively in the challenge to determine which gender is the toughest.
Aubrey Miles isn’t your typical model or actress. This girl is tough to the bone! Aubrey is the perfect embodiment of toughness and tenacity.  She supported her family since she was a teenager, she fought through her life’s challenges and emerged as a tough actress and fitness advocate.
“I’m very excited to be chosen as the first female ambassador for R U Tough Enough? Filipinos are tough, especially women, they never give up even get hit by all kinds of life adversities.  Like me, I struggled to get my life back after giving birth and start everything over again by myself.  Everything that I have and where am at now is from my hard work and being tougher inside and outside.  So I encourage my fellow Pinays out there to join R U Tough Enough? Let’s show them women are really tough,” said Aubrey.
From being a national rugby player to a body builder, Arnold Aninion, has proven to be tough with countless hours of training and hard work throughout his years as a fitness enthusiast.
“Being tough is a balance of being physically and mentally strong. I believe that we can accomplish anything if we just set our minds to it. Much like the Pinoy spirit. Pinoys are so resilient that we get up every time life brings us down. I challenge everyone to test your limits and join R U Tough Enough?,” said Arnold.
“In this year’s R U Tough Enough?, we are excited to go beyond the stereotype that men are tougher than women with our very own battle of Man versus Woman. We’re sure that this will make for an enthralling competition, as we know that toughness isn’t limited to physical strength; it is also a test of mental endurance.  And a big thank you to our sponsors and partners for supporting this program,” said Shirley Cheong, Executive Director of Marketing at KIX, Hong Kong.

A Beginner’s Guide to CrossFit

Are you thinking of taking up CrossFit to meet your health and wellness goals? Since its inception in the late nineties, CrossFit has become one of the most popular training systems ever created. The founder of CrossFit, Greg Glassman, wanted to design a functional training system for individuals. He was tired of team sports and wanted to be responsible for his training results. He ended up creating a system that combined body weight and free weight exercises along with Olympic lifts and specialized cardio training. The system focused on building explosive power, while inducing muscular hypertrophy, and an increase in functional movement and mobility.

CrossFit evolved from a simple website blog, into an international behemoth that now has specialized CrossFit competitions known as ‘The CrossFit Games” Athletes at the games compete in a tournament to crown the champion and the fittest human on earth.

If you are just starting out at your local CrossFit gym or are considering joining an affiliate gym, then here is what you need to know before you take on your first workout.
The Nature of CrossFit Training
CrossFit workouts vary in their description. However, all of them work on the same principles of high-intensity training. HIT requires doing the most amount of work possible in a short timeframe. The goal is to elevate the g=heart rate to maximum levels, with minimal resting periods in-between. Use rest periods in your workout as a means to recover before beginning the next circuit, or exercise.
HIT increases VO2 max, the body’s capacity to absorb oxygen. The effects of all the extra oxygen can be felt long after your workout. EPOC, Exercise Post Oxygen Consumption, is the extended effect of excess oxygen consumption on your metabolism. This effect increases your metabolic rate, burning body fat stores for up to three hours after you have finished training.

Understanding the CrossFit workout Structure
The CrossFit website promotes a daily WOD, or workout of the day. This workout consists of anywhere from one exercise, to eight exercises, performed in some variation of HIT fashion. Other exercise variations are;
•    EMOM – Every Minute On the Minute. This workout has you complete an activity for a certain amount of reps, every minute on the minute. A typical EMOM workout would be four to six bodyweight and free weight exercises. You would complete 10 to 12 reps of an exercise and then rest before starting the next exercise at the commencement of the next minute. This circuit would typically last for eight to ten rounds.
•    AMRAP – As Many Reps As Possible. This workout would have you complete as many reps as possible in one exercise of a given period. An example would be body weight squats for AMRAP.
There are many other workout variations in the CrossFit model, and it will take you some time to learn them all. However, if you get stuck with anything, just ask the other people in your gym what it means, and they will help you out.

Creating a Logbook

Getting started with CrossFit is easy, it is keeping it going and adding consistency to your training that is the hard part. Before you head off to the gym to complete your first workout, ask yourself what you are training for and write down your goals. Once you have made a clear statement of your goals, back up that with a commitment to yourself to see them come to fruition. Buy a log book and track your workouts. Measure every lift and every progression you make in rep count, time, and weight you use.

Nutrition and CrossFit Training

CrossFit is a demanding form of exercise that requires you to be feeling your best before every workout. Hard training requires a solid diet that is rich in quality calories from healthy food sources. If you eat like garbage, you can expect to perform like garbage.

Your diet should consist of rich sources of protein such as salmon, eggs, chicken, and game meats. Avoid red meat wherever you can and replace it with a healthier choice. Refined carbohydrates create inflammation in the GI tract, so make sure that you avoid sugar and flour as much as possible.
If you are struggling to design a diet for yourself, visit a nutritionist. A nutritionist will give you an assessment of your body and create a nutritious diet that will help you meet your goals.

Wrapping Up

Stay dedicated to your training and meet people at your gym that are like-minded. By immersing yourself in the CrossFit community, you will accelerate your training and reach your goals a lot sooner.
