“Started from the bottom now we here!”
Whenever i hear this song it reminds me of the URCC journey.
For more than a decade now the longest running mma promotion in Asia never fails to showcase action packed entertainment.
In the beginning it wasn’t smooth, according to the founder Alvin Aguilar finding a venue for this event was really difficult back then.
People are doubtful as to whether the Filipinos are ready for this kind of sporting event. Alvin Aguilar along with his partners were not discouraged at all.
Despite the non believers and without having major sponsors in the beginning they made it through!
This coming November URCC will celebrate its 13th year in the business and the best part here is that it is now BIGGER and BETTER.
As i have said in my previous article, switching to cage is jut part of many solid plans that organisation is looking to execute in the near future.
At this point URCC is looking to put up as many events possible. Alvin Aguilar have announced that more fights will be shown on a monthly basis.
Part of the solid plan is the international exposure! yup! not only in provincial areas and metro manila but outside the Philippines as well!
When URCC started all the fights were showcased inside the ring.
It took over a decade before the longest running MMA promotions decided to switch to the cage.
In the past the God father of Philippine MMA Alvin Aguilar did not appreciate the idea of fighting inside the cage, I remember one time he said something like “only cockfight happens inside the cage and fighting inside the ring can showcase more exciting fights”
On October 2014, URCC finally switched to the cage for a very good reason.
Switching to the cage is a part of the plans of making the organisation bigger.
The founder, Alvin Aguilar said in his interview during the launching last year.
“The only reason why we went to the cage is that we are preparing our fighters for international fights and everybody on the international stage fights in the cage. I don’t want our fighters to have to adjust to the cage.”
To me this is a master plan! i couldn’t agree more. The organisation is doing anything possible not only to give the fans the best fights possible but also to make sure that their fighters are ready for international standards.
I’m sure URCC fans are excited to find out when’s the next action packed event will take place.
If im not mistaken the Asia’s longest running MMA promotion is eyeing to schedule the next fight card in November this year.
If only given a chance i would love to be the match maker for the upcoming fight card.
Here are the matches I would like to set up:
Will ” the kill” Chope vs Edward “Landslide” Folayang
Damn! this a worthy main event for sure. Both fighter have international experience. These two are on a different level. Google em’ to see what im saying.
Chope’s record is 27-8 and as per Tapology.com he is currently ranked number 1 lightweight in China and Southeast Asia, WhileEdward “Landslide” Folayang is a proven elite homegrown fighter. On top of his world class skill set Edward Folayang is also very eager to bounce back from his TKO lost last year in OneFC.
CJ De Tomas vs Hideo Morikawa
I beleive that CJ De tomas is the next big thing in Philippine MMA and a fight against the current flyweight champ is defintely soemthing to look forward to!
CJ De Tomas, as they say is complete package fighter while Hideo Morikawa fights like a samurai warrior who doesn’t know know how to give up.
Hoffman vs Palomar
Both fighters won their recent fights via TKO and i have a feeling that this fight will end up with the same result.
Isiah Ordiz vs Meshaal Al-Khuzeem
I have seen Ordiz fights even before he was signed to URCC. It’s nice to him winning his debut agains Alvin Chan via reankaed choke. It would be really exciting if we could get him to fight Meshaal Al-Khuzeem the ranked 10 lightweight fighter in Middle East.
Caloy vs Panchito Sugarray Estrada
If you are a fan of slug fest then this is the fight for you. These heavyweights hate each other in and outside the cage and I’m sure they both are looking for a knock out victory!
Best example of this is our very own Andrew Benibe.
True enough the bad boy connected with his heavy right hand then took advantage of the ground and pound position and just like that the bad boy got the sweet victory.
Have you ever dreamed of running your own Mix Martial Arts company?
I have always wanted to be a fighter, trainer, gym owner, scout and manager all at the same-time.
In real life you cant do them all obviously but if you want to satisfy you MMA fantasy, then i would recommend this sports strategy game called “MMA manager”.
The fighting aspect of the game is very limited because it only shows live text commentary and you have no control over the fights movement.
The main objective of the game is to take your MMA Federations to the top and dominate the MMA world.
For you to do that you must first hire the best fighters available and book exciting matches for the people.
Picture yourself playing the role of Fertitta brothers and Dana white.
You will be responsible for just about everything, from scouting report, contract negotiation, match making, choosing the venue, creating hype, ticket pricing to TV rating and Pay Per View.
It would have been more exciting though if you have the option to edit the organisation’s name and especially the rules.
I would have made it more exciting like URCC where majority of the fighting results are “non decision “
URCC matches consist of only 2 rounds, each round will last 10 minutes and additional of 5 minute round in case it is necessary for title bouts.
Aside from having world class fighters. URCC’s distinct rules make the league a lot more exciting to watch because as early as first round you can already determine the winner either by KO or submission or stoppage.
For all aspiring URCC fighters out there! you might wanna check this out!
If you love combat sports to the point where you wanna try it out yourself.
Well, first of all you must spend considerable amount of time in training, otherwise forget about your interest in competing.
Now assuming you’ve done the first step .You have instilled self discipline and gone through serious training.
The next logical step should be, to “test the water” and the prefect way to do that is to join Amateur Fighting Championship.
Before a fighter get to the next level , a recognized amateur background will always be helpful, not just for the benefit of exposure but also to see if they are even good enough to be a pro fighter.
I mean, come on! you don’t wanna join Ultimate Reality Combat championship and fight world class fighter with mediocre skill level.
URCC has the highest finishes rates in the region, and I am sure that no fighter would ever want to be part of the highlights on the losing end.
This is when you’d get that expression ” aaYAW-YAN” towards the opponent.
Filipinos are known for hospitality and Adaptability. What the rest of world probably doesn’t know is that, Filipinos are “natural born fighters”.
The first ever MMA league in the South East Asian region.
ABOUT URCC – The Universal Reality Combat Championship is Southeast Asia’s first professional mixed martial arts tournament. We held our first mainstream event in 2002 in front of a sold–out crowd at the Casino Filipino. Ever since 2002, we have always sold out all of our events. The URCC is often referred to as “ASIA’s MOST EXCITING MMA LEAGUE”. This is due to the fact that the league has the highest rates of finishes in the region. Our fighters ALWAYS come to FIGHT!
