“Fists of Furry” prevailed

The long reign of the second longest heavyweight champion has come to an end.
Wladimir  Klitschko  was on a “22” winning streak and a champion for 9 years.
However Klitschko  had to surrender the belt after taking the “Fists of fury”.
Nov 29, 2015 in front of 55,000 fans inside the Espirit Arena in Germany.

Tyson Fury; 28yr old with a clean record of 25-18-0  Pulled of the upset win with a “  NON HEAVYWEIGHT “ style of boxing.
In this fight Fury moves like a lower weight boxer, he was showing off his head movement and mobility which you won’t normally see in majority of heavy weight boxers now a days.
The new Heavy weight champion is not only fun to watch on video fight promotions but also inside the ring.
It’s amazing how a 6’9 guy over 250 Ibs can move around quickly like a middle weight.
Fury’s mobility was the winning factor in this fight; his head movements and the switching from Orthodox to Southpaw were really brilliant and fun to watch.
Wladimir  Klitschko  couldn’t land a solid punch except in the 5th round.
On the other hand, Tyson Fury takes advantage of his 4 in” reach advantage connecting stiff jabs and finally landed an overhand right in the 9th round.
Tyson Fury outpointed his opponent Wladimir  Klitschko 115-112, 115-112, 116-111  to take home the belt via unanimous decision.
The icing on the cake was Fury’s singing performance after his win.
Fury sings ” I dont want to miss a thing ” by Aerosmith.

Certainly fun to watch! is he the youngblood that could put the heavyweight division back on the map?

Started from the bottom

 Universal Reality Combat Championship

“Started from the bottom now we here!”

Whenever i hear this song it reminds me of the URCC journey.

For more than a decade now the longest running mma promotion in Asia never fails to showcase action packed entertainment.

In the beginning it wasn’t smooth, according to the founder Alvin Aguilar finding a venue for this event was really difficult back then.

People are doubtful as to whether the Filipinos are ready for this kind of sporting event.  Alvin Aguilar along with his partners were not discouraged at all.

Despite the non believers and without having major sponsors in the beginning they made it through!

This coming November URCC will celebrate its 13th year in the business and the best part here is that it is now BIGGER and BETTER.

As i have said in my previous article, switching to cage is jut part of many solid plans that organisation is looking to execute in the near future.

At this point URCC  is looking to put up as many events possible.  Alvin Aguilar have announced that more fights will be shown on a monthly basis.

Part of the solid plan is the international exposure!  yup! not only in provincial areas and metro manila but outside the Philippines as well!

ABOUT URCC – The Universal Reality Combat Championship is Southeast Asia’s first professional mixed martial arts tournament. We held our first mainstream event in 2002 in front of a sold–out crowd at the Casino Filipino. Ever since 2002, we have always sold out all of our events. The URCC is often referred to as “ASIA’s MOST EXCITING MMA LEAGUE”. This is due to the fact that the league has the highest rates of finishes in the region. Our fighters ALWAYS come to FIGHT!

"From Ring to Cage"

When URCC started all the fights were showcased inside the ring.

It took over a decade before the longest running MMA promotions decided to switch to the cage.

In the past the God father of Philippine MMA Alvin Aguilar did not  appreciate the idea of fighting inside the cage, I remember one time he said  something like “only cockfight happens inside the cage and fighting inside the ring can showcase more exciting fights”

On October 2014, URCC finally switched to the cage for a very good reason.

Switching to the cage is a part of the plans of  making the organisation bigger.

The founder, Alvin Aguilar said in his interview during the launching last year.

“The only reason why we went to the cage is that we are preparing our fighters for international fights and everybody on the international stage fights in the cage.  I don’t want our fighters to have to adjust to the cage.”

To me this is a master plan! i couldn’t agree more. The organisation is doing anything possible not only to give the fans the best fights possible but also to make sure that their fighters are ready for international standards.

" Fight Card "

I’m sure URCC fans are excited to find out when’s the next action packed event will take place.

If im not mistaken the Asia’s longest running MMA promotion is eyeing to schedule the next fight card in November this year.

If only given a chance i would love to be the match maker for the upcoming fight card.

Here are the matches I would like to set up:

Will ” the kill” Chope vs Edward “Landslide”  Folayang

Damn! this a worthy main event for sure. Both fighter have international  experience.  These two are on a different level. Google em’ to see what im saying.

Chope’s record is 27-8 and as per Tapology.com he is currently ranked number 1  lightweight in China and Southeast Asia, WhileEdward “Landslide” Folayang is a proven elite homegrown fighter. On top of his world class skill set Edward Folayang is also very eager to bounce back from his TKO lost last year in OneFC.

CJ De Tomas vs Hideo Morikawa

I beleive that CJ De tomas is the next big thing in Philippine MMA and a fight against the current flyweight  champ is defintely soemthing to look forward to!

CJ De Tomas, as they say is complete package fighter while Hideo Morikawa fights like a samurai warrior who doesn’t know know how to give up.

Hoffman vs Palomar

Both fighters won their recent fights via TKO and i have a feeling that this fight will end up with the same result.

Isiah Ordiz vs Meshaal Al-Khuzeem

I have seen Ordiz fights even before he was signed to URCC. It’s nice to him winning his debut agains Alvin Chan via reankaed choke.  It would be really exciting if we could get him to fight Meshaal Al-Khuzeem the ranked 10  lightweight fighter in Middle East.

Caloy vs Panchito Sugarray Estrada

If you are a fan of slug fest then this is the fight for you. These heavyweights hate each other in and outside the cage and I’m sure they both are looking for a knock out victory!

The Filipino Bolo Punch

Reydon “Red” Rommero   aka The Filipino Bolo Punch has successfully defended his belt again Malaysian rival Jian Kai Chee.
The yaw yan martial art expert via won TKO referee stoppage on the 2ndround.
Indeed it has been an impressive victory considering the fact he’s been out for about a year due to  an injury.
Prior to his recent successful title defense, last July at Fontana Resort in Pampanga.

He had a tough fight against Ricardo Sapno, in this fight back in Aug of 2014.
Red was certainly put to the test.
Filipino Bolo punch broke his right hand on the second round but still manage to pull off a submission victory on the 3rd round.
The injury was really bad that he had to go through operation and sit out for about a year.
While nursing his injury Red took time to improve his grappling game by working on his jujitsu and wrestling.

Red is fighting out of B.A.M.F. mix martial center where he trains with the jujitsu experts and elite wrestlers.

The future is rally looking good for Red. He got the high level striking skills and now he’s working on becoming a well-rounded fighter.

I’m sure the fans are happy to see him healthy and watch him defend his title in the near future.

Sincere humility in cruel world of MMA

Whenever we see a professional fighter our initial reaction would always be “  he’s a bad ass”
Toughness and aggressive attitude are expected of a fighters. You can’t blame them as they are living in the world where only strong survives.
In the world of MMA you will encounter different kinds of people.  You can come across of someone who’s oozing with confidence as if he got the world in his palm, you’ll see a bad ass who doesn’t give an F as always, there are some decent dudes around but  even them still got the tendency to show aggressiveness and there are some who would try to be on their best behaviour when the camera is on then switch to being the opposite of someone they are trying to portray when its off.
Not only we can witness different technics or fighting styles in the world of MMA but also we can witness different characters as well which make this competitive world more exciting to watch.
I personally like seeing a bad ass fighter shows his soft side and moreover express humility.

Best example of this is our very own Andrew Benibe.

Andrew had to wait for a long before he had a chance to take home the URCC  bantam weight belt.
Andrew has been through ups and downs  until he earned the belt. Just recently Andrew lost his title defense against Jason Estoro but despite the lost the former champ never badmouth neither said anything bad to the league and his opponent.
.
Andrew has shown something that not a lot of fighter can show, and that is the sincere humility.
Check out this FB status he posted after losing his title defense.

URCC x DutDutan 2015

In collaboration with Tribal gear, URCC;  the Asia’s most exciting league has showcased a short but exciting card in recently concluded 15th annual DutDutan festival.
The main event was bannered by a former UFC and former URCC champion; Will “The Kill” Chope.
Chope needed only 2 minutes to get the victory against Patric Manicad via rear naked choke.
The Co’ main event featured CJ De Tomas and Ricky Lucena.
The promising young fighter “CJ De Tomas” climbs to 5-0 after finishing Ricky Lucena  (3-0) with an Armbar.
Eddie Estrada is now 2-0 with a win via kO/TKO against Effren Marinias  (0-1) .
In women’s division,  Maricel Subang got her first win via KO/TKO against Queeney Saen. (0-2).

Who do you want to see fight Caloy?

Caloy “The Bad Boy “ Baduria last fought on Oct 2014 where he won via TKO against Mark Palomar.

It wasn’t a great start for the bad boy as Palomar started connecting punches while circling around showcasing his foot work, however in then end the bad boy prevailed in way that he does best!

The fight was stopped when Palomar fell down after receiving wild combinations from the bad boy.

A couple of years before his fight against Palomar last year.
Caloy had a very exciting and entertaining fight against   Pancho “Sugar ray “Estrada.

Indeed it was a slug fest! As both fighters took it personal.  Their real life beef made the match up really exciting and entertaining.

Both fighters traded punches after punches as if there’s no way the fight will end up in decision.

True enough the bad boy connected with his heavy right hand then took advantage of the ground and pound position and just like that the bad boy got the sweet victory.

Even though a rematch against Polimar could be a good idea.
Personally however I would put it on the back burner and set up a fight between Caloy and Chris Hoffman instead.

Chris Hoffman is on a 2 winning streak via TKO/Punches.  Caloy himself got all his 9 victories via TKO/Punches.  What does that mean???  Another exciting fight for sure!

Another fighter I would love to see fight Caloy is Pancho “Sugar Ray “ Estrada.

Oh yes! A rematch!!  I mean imagine the entertainment value of this fight?

Expect it to be more intense and wild because I’m sure Pancho will put up a better fight this time to bounce back from his embarrassing lost against the bad boy  3yrs ago.

Having these kind of fighter on the roster, URCC is definitely the most exciting MMA league in Asia.

Is CJ De Tomas the future of Philippine MMA?

As I have said before, we have more than enough talented fighters to fill the smaller and lighter division of MMA.
Out of those many talented fighters however, there are only few who are destined to shine.
One of those few fighters is CJ De Tomas.  CJ is currently has a clean record of 4 – 0.
He won the first 2 fights via submission, third was via TKO and the most recent victory couple of months ago against Carlo Laurel, via unanimous decision.
CJ De Tomas, also known as the golden boy started at a very young age.  While other kids his age were addicted to video games CJ was into jujitsu.
From jujitsu he went to wrestling then he transitioned to MMA. At this early stage of his MMA career the Golden Boy is already considered as a complete package fighter.
He is capable of doing just about anything, he can take you down or throw you (as shown on the picture) maneuver and end the fight on the ground and of course his sharp striking is given.
Superales taking a ride from a De Tomas suplex.
CJ is a talented and skillful fighter but what really separates him from other fighters is the proper guidance.
Since the very start of his fighting career, his dad Charles De Tomas a former Boxer and URCC Bantam weight contender has been guiding him properly.
True enough, talent and skills can help a fighter get some victories but with discipline and proper guidance, a fighter will inevitably reach his maximum potential.

This is exactly the case of the Golden Boy, CJ De Tomas.
I always believe that it’s only a matter of time and we will see a born and raised Pinoy fighter having an impact like Manny Pacquiao in the world of MMA. Don’t ever be surprised if it happens to be this 19years old Golden Boy.

Is CJ De Tomas the future of Philippine MMA?  lets all find out as we follow his career in the longest running MMA promotion in Asia, URCC.

Chris “ half man ( Hofmann) half amazing”

Majority of Filipino fighters are built for smaller divisions. In fact we have more than enough talented fighters to fill the smaller and lighter division.
Based on my observation, a lot of Filipinos do not even know that we have few good upcoming
fighters in light and heavy weight divisions.
I am sure that fans and supporters of local MMA scene know or familiar  about Chris Hofmann but it’s time to introduce this guy to the rest of you all who might have not heard about him yet.
Chris Hoffman is a half Filipino, half Swiz pure breed DEFTAC fighter.
The 6ft light heavy fighter is currently ranked number 4 out of 8 active Pro Light Heavyweights in Southeast Asia.
Currently, he is sporting a record of 2 wins 1 loss. He lost his debut fight in Rebel FC 1, a couple of years ago but came back with 2 consecutive wins in our very own URCC.
Chris Hoffman had an impressive debut in Asia’s longest running MMA promotion in Oct last year when he won via 1st round stoppage against Nickson Kola.
Just recently, he had another TKO victory victory against Jeremias Tan ( Elorde Tandang Sore) on July 2015.

Chris Hofmann’s fighting style is a solid combination of Muai -Thai and BJJ, so stand up or ground fighting?  Should not be a problem for him.
With having an impressive 2 consecutive victories and getting better and better at 26yrs of age.
Now the question is who is next for Chris Hofmann?
Who is ready for this guy? Whoever is next, he better be ready for vicious kicks and better be good enough to defend himself on the ground.
Oh man! The only thing that is certain with having Chris inside the cage is that its goanna be an exciting fight for sure!!

I would love to see Chris Hofmann do really well and succeed and be worthy of this cool moniker Chris “ half man ( Hofmann) half amazing” !

"Satisfy your MMA fantasy"

Have you ever dreamed of running your own Mix Martial Arts company?

I have always wanted to be a fighter, trainer, gym owner, scout and manager all at the same-time.

In real life you cant do them all obviously but if you want to satisfy you MMA fantasy,  then i would recommend this sports strategy game called “MMA manager”.

The fighting aspect of the game is very limited because it only shows live text  commentary and you have no control over the fights movement.

The main objective of the game is to take your MMA Federations to the top and  dominate the MMA world.

For you to do that you must  first hire the best fighters available and book exciting matches for the people.

Picture yourself playing the role of Fertitta brothers and Dana white.

You will be responsible for just about everything, from scouting report, contract negotiation, match making,  choosing the venue, creating hype, ticket pricing  to TV rating and Pay Per View.

It would have been more exciting though if you have the option to edit the organisation’s name and  especially the rules.

I would have made it more exciting like URCC where majority of the fighting results are “non decision “

URCC matches consist of  only 2 rounds, each round will last 10 minutes and additional of 5 minute round in case it is  necessary for title bouts.

Aside from having world class fighters. URCC’s distinct  rules make the league a lot more exciting to watch because as early as first round you can already determine the winner either by KO or submission or stoppage.

hypothetical match up

As we all know, Demetrius “The Mighty Mouse” Johnson  successfully defended his belt against John Dodson last Sunday.
Johnson is tied with Jose Aldo with 7 consecutive title defenses. I believe next in line should be the winner between Henry Cejudo and Jussier  Formiga.
Demetrius Johnson the no. 3 “Pound per Pound” champion has fought and won against the high ranking fighters in the flyweight division.
The number 1 and 2 contenders John Dodson and Joseph Benavidez, who happens to be his teammates tried to snatch the belt away but Johnson is simply too much for them.
Now, out of curiosity I was wondering? Flyweight is a natural division for most of our local fighters or Asians fighters in general.
What do you think would be the result if Demetrius Johnson fights one our home grown flyweight fighters?
Obviously, this is just a fantasy match up but who knows?  This fantasy fight could become reality in the near future. I am sure it is bound to happen in the near future.
If I’m going to have to pick a home grown fighter, maybe I would pick someone from the longest running MMA promotion in Asia; Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC).
At the present time, the first choice would be the current Flyweight champ Hideo Morikawa who’s on a 4th winning streak and recently claimed the URCC Flyweight belt last July at Fontana Convention hall in Pampanga.
The URCC veteran with a record of 8-3 is considered as “home grown fighter” even though he is Japanese national.
Hideo Morikawa is known for being durable and tough, it would be really exciting see him fight against the world flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, this may not happen in real life but this hypothetical match up looks interesting!

Test the water

For all aspiring URCC fighters out there! you might wanna check this out!

If you love combat sports to the point where you wanna try it out yourself.

Well, first of all you must spend considerable amount of time in training, otherwise forget about your interest in competing.

Now assuming you’ve done the first step .You have instilled self discipline and gone through serious training.

The next logical step should be, to “test the water”  and the prefect way to do that is to join Amateur Fighting Championship.

Before a fighter get to the next level , a recognized amateur background will always be helpful, not just for the benefit of exposure but also to see if they are even good enough to be a pro fighter.

I mean, come on!  you don’t wanna join Ultimate Reality Combat championship and fight world class fighter with mediocre skill level.

URCC has the highest finishes rates in the region, and I am sure that no fighter would ever want to be part of the highlights on the losing end.

a-a YAW-YAN! (he’ll quit!!)

Check out these highlights from “Hybrid Yaw-Yan fighters”
This 5min video clip shows several highlights from different weigh classes of Hybrid Yaw-Yan fighters
Yaw-Yan,  also known as “Dance of Death” is a complete Filipino martial art which is definitely a  good option for an aspiring MMA fighter.
This art form is consist of different elements of striking, grappling stick and knife fighting.
In the world of MMA, a professional Hybrid Yaw-Yan fighter is a well-rounded fighter, he can win or survive ground or stand up fighting, video shows how good they are on both areas.
I personally like this martial art style however I noticed that it doesn’t emphasis much on a specific discipline. Could it mean a disadvantage?
Let’s say a Yaw-Yan fighter is up against high level jujitsu fighter?
Or could it mean an advantage being said that Yaw-Yan fighter is well a rounded individual?
I did al lil’ bit of taekwondo, boxing and very little jujitsu but I’m NO expert!
I could be wrong by saying that this martial arts style doesn’t emphasis much on a specific discipline. If you are an expert I would love to hear your thoughts on this?
But one thing that I’m sure of, it is that there are a lot of great hybrid yaw-Yan fighters in the URCC winning by KO, submission or stoppage .

This is when you’d get that expression ” aaYAW-YAN”  towards the opponent.

In our very own MMA league (URCC) is where we can witness how our very own martial art style (YAW-YAN) will do against other types of martial arts.

Natural Born Fighters meet the Baddest Man in Manila

URCC Manila, Alvin Aguilar
Alvin Aguilar, Streets of Manila

Filipinos are known for hospitality and Adaptability.  What the rest of world probably doesn’t know is that, Filipinos are “natural born fighters”.

Well, the fighting history is well documented; Started from Spanish colonization to American and Japanese invasion.
Wow! Can you freakin’ imagine how long has it been?
Without a doubt fighting runs in our blood. In fact, for many different reasons (which mostly are none sense) street fighting were so prevalent in various places back in the 90’s.
Thanks to the “ Baddest Man in Manila “ and his partners for founding ” Universal Reality Combat Championship”

The first ever MMA league in the  South East Asian region.
For more than a decade now,  URRCC has been providing a platform for people who have a passion for martial arts, and of course for our “natural born fighter “countrymen.

Unlike street fighting and underground fighting, URCC gives an opportunity to our “Natural Born Fighters “to further develop their skills in the safest and most prominent way possible.

Moreover it gives them an opportunity to somehow make a living out of their fighting passion plus the opportunity to earn “respect out of greatness” instead of fear.

Isn’t it cool to earn respect and admiration out of your greatness?
