Mickey Garcia Wants BIG Challenge Open To Face Keith Thurman

Following his impressive twelve round unanimous decision win over Adrien Broner Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn New York, the undefeated WBC world lightweight champion Mickey Garcia is considering a potential fight with WBA/WBC world welterweight champion Keith Thurman if he cannot get a unification fight with Jorge Linares or showdown with Vasyl Lomachenko.
“I would do it,” Garcia said during the post-fight press conference. “And honestly, if it’s a good fight that the people, media and the network wanna discuss, I’m open to discussing that, too.
He’s a great champion, a great fighter, you know, he’s a unified champion at welterweight. So that’d be a great matchup, a great accomplishment, a big challenge. But that’s what we want. That’s exactly the kind of fights that we want, you know, a big challenge. And if I wanna be remembered in the sport, you know, those are the fights that you’ve gotta take.”

“I could take easy fights, easier fights, you know, fighting top contenders, but fairly easier fights,” Garcia said. “But that really doesn’t do anything. The fans won’t recognize you, won’t remember you. You know? It’s not gone help build a legacy.” said Garcia.

Mickey Garcia Doubts That Lomachenko will Move Up to Face Him

Mickey Garcia would love the idea of facing WBO Super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko but he doubts that Lomachenko will move up to 135 pounds to face him.

“Listen, I think that would be a great matchup, based on styles, I hear he is willing to fight me and has mentioned that he wants to fight me. His manager reached out to my brother , asking, you know, maybe we can build that fight up. ” Garcia said during a post-fight press conference.

“But I don’t see him making the move up to 135. You know, he’s fighting a guy at 130 who’s coming from a loss at 126. You know? That doesn’t show me he wants to move to 135. If you’re serious about it, like I said, they can come, you know, give us a phone call. You know, we can bring him on to Showtime. You know? We can definitely have a discussion. I think it would be a great matchup at 135. I ain’t coming down to nobody. I’m not gonna wait for anybody, either.”

WBC Lightweight champion Mickey Garcia (37-0,30) is coming off decisive 12 round unanimous decision win over Adrien Broner in his 140 pounds pro debut while Vasyl Lomachenko (8-1,6) will be defending his WBO world super featherweight title against Miguel Marriaga (25-2,21) on August 5th at Microsoft Theater in LA California.

WBC world lightweight Garcia is willing to stay at 140 pounds or move up in 147. If there is no big fight in lightweight. Garcia is willing to unify his title to WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares.
“I feel strong,” Garcia said.
“If there’s an opportunity to come down to 135-pounds for a good fight, I’ll do that. If that’s not available, we know boxing. I can’t be waiting or sitting around or chasing anybody. I’ll move on with my career at 140-pounds or 147-pounds.
“Two and a half years off. There were a lot of questions. People wondered if my heart was still in it or if I would come back like before or if I’d be motivated enough. It’s nice to come back and show everybody that my heart’s in it. I’m hungrier than ever and I’m probably better than every. We can see the results. “Anybody that wants to come join us on Showtime, give us a call. We are ready for anybody.”
