UGB 20: A night of finishes, fighter failed to show up and more

The Municipality of Puerto Galera and Ferdinand Munsayac’s ‘UGB 20: Rambulan sa Galera Beach Battle II’ event at the White Beach Resort was a huge success. Many people still lined up but unfortunately tickets sold out in just minutes after the fight has started. UGB 20 became a different type of toursim for the Summer Capital of Southern Luzon, making history last night, April 29, 2017.

The 14 fights including the weaponized cage competition called Juego Todo was a sure-fire way that grabbed the Mindorenos and visitors’ attention. The supposed 15th fight was cancelled though due to Marco Heft pulling out on the day of fight. Back spasm was the reason Heft gave why he didn’t show up. So many Germans waiting to see him in action aren’t the only ones disappointed that he was unable to represent Puerto Galera. His opponent Lester Nacion was announced as the winner.

Almost all the fights ended in finishes. Only one fight went to three rounds. Mario Sismundo came out quickly against Jimboy Panlita, throwing powerful punches. Panlita was also landing a heavy right and sending Sismundo to the canvas. Follow-up punches brought the fight to a close at the third round. Their fight may go down as one the legendary battle in Puerto Galera last night.

Reginald Cruz wasted no time putting Jun JiHoon on the ground in the first round of their grudge match. When the fight hit the floor, it was immediately over! The “Mail Man” put his opponent to sleep with gogoplata in just 25 seconds.

Dale Cataquis was very aggressive in taking Jason Vergara down. After Cataquis battling for a little bit of control on the mat, Jason Vergara transitioned between his hold into the armlock.

Jovanie Bualan was also in action as he controlling much of the opening round. Bualan transitioned to a fight ending reverse triangle choke which forced Arnel Ylanan to tap out at 1:50 of the first round.

Last night was a fantastic sweep win as well for Team Succuri. Thrilling finishes by Hurryl Gino, Rome Trinidad, Willie John Ee, Jason Vergara, Micuni Munsayac and Yugo Daruzano.

Mayor Rockey D. Ilagan works hard to bring sport tourism content to Puerto Galera. Listed one of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World, Puerto Galera is rich with coral reef diving spots. UGB 20 is a different type of active tourism for Puerto Galera to ramain as the Summer Capital of Southern Luzon in the Philippines.

UGB owner and founder Ferdinand Abadilla Munsayac is also aiming to deliver another spectacle which not only showcases fighting talents but gives the fans a show and relaxed atmosphere, a different atmosphere, to the usual MMA shows. The retired US Navy chief’s primary goal is ‭ ‬to help the young, poverty-stricken but skilled boxers/Muay Thai/Jiu Jitsu and MMA fighters develop their craft so that they would be able to provide a brighter future anchored on the advocacy – “Beating Up Poverty” which in itself is a commendable goal. His deep sense of his Filipino heritage which he has reflected alongside with his fundamental mission, is not just to grow the UGB MMA brand but to reinforce his commitment to the Filipino fighters, come from the fringes of poverty-stricken family backgrounds.
