UFC 214 Prediction: Potentially Rusty Jon Jones Still too Big and Too Strong for Good Old Daniel Cormier

Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier a rematch for the ages in the UFC.

Saturday Night in the US, Sunday morning Manila, one of the most anticipated rematches in fight sports history will happen.
UFC 214: Cormier vs. Jones 2 tomorrow,  July 29, 2017, at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Jon Jones was the youngest ever champion at 23 years old. He also holds the record for the most successful and consecutive light heavyweight title defense in the UFC. To say the least, he is one tough and talented fighter inside the cage. He has dominated the sports and is still in the prime of his fighting career.  If only Jon Jones could keep his head together and get out of trouble he would have done more and could have probably retained the title belt that he lost due to issues outside the cage. Jones is now 30 years old and he last fought against Ovince Saint Preux on April 23, 2016, and won the interim UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Later stripped of the title.

On the other hand, Daniel Cormier at 38 is enjoying a 4 fight winning streak that dated back January at UFC 182 when he first met Jon Jones and lost via unanimous decision. The loss to Jones also marked his first and only loss in his MMA career. Cormier has risen up after that loss and has won the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and the  Performance of the Night against a tough opponent in Anthony Johnson. Fast forward today he has defended the belt four times in a row against Alexander Gustafsson, Anderson Silva and his last match were a rematch against Anthony Johnson. He won that fight via Submission (rear-naked choke). On July 29, the previous owner of the belt will try to get it back once again.

Prediction: Why we think Jon Jones will win via early KO or submission

Standing at 6’4″ Jon Jones look strong, prime and ready to take back his championship belt against 5’10” champion Daniel Cormier. Jones last fought inside the cage, April 2016 when he defeated Ovince Saint Preux. Since 2013, Jones only fought once a year. He has become a part time MMA fighter due to his battles outside of the cage. Jon Jones may be a little rusty and unfocused but his pure talent, size, and strength may be enough to defeat Daniel Cormier who is aging at 38 years old. While everyone is seeing a close fight as both fighters are good in their own ways, I am seeing a fight that won’t last to three rounds. These are professional fighters and they will fight according to plan but I, with the animosity between them, can see Jon Jones going at it right away just to prove a point.  Jon may attack right away with a combination of strikes and ground game. Cormier will have a success early in the fight and will be able to hit Jones back with his own strikes.  Mid part of the fight Cormier would be out of gas and ultimately, Cormier the world class wrestler, will be obliged to take the fight to the ground but it would be a big mistake as Jones who would be too slick will be able to control the situation and either submit or KO the defending champion.
To be honest, I want Jon Jones to lose because he is not a good role model to fight fans but we all know that the fight is not decided on the basis of being a good guy or a bad guy. It is decided on who came prepared and who is the better fighter and that is Jon Jones.
Jon Jones still got the fire and the motivation to be a great fighter that he once was.

Will Anthony Johnson Defeat Daniel Cormier on Part Two?

Daniel Cormier is set to face Anthony Johnson in a rematch that took 2 years to make. Both fighters first met May 23, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fight was for the Light Heavyweight championship in which Cormier prevailed and defeated johnson via rear-naked choke in the 3rd round.
Daniel Cormier has fought only twice since then, first against Alexander Gustafson and the last one was with Anderson Silva both of which he won.
Next week  Cornier face Anthony Johnson once again for a rematch. Cormier now at 38 years old is had a total of 19 fights and only one defeat which came from the hands of his probably most controversial opponent Jon Jones.
On the other hand Anthony Johnson at 33 is enjoying a 3 game winning streak with all of those fights earning him an award of performance of the night. Johnson had a total of 27 fights, 22 wins and 5 losses the last one being with Cormier in which he fell short to acquiring the belt.
On  April 8 2017 Johnson will get another crack at the Light Heavyweight belt when he faces Cormier again for the second time at the Keybank Center in New York.
