Second Preseason Game: LA Lakers vs. Nuggets

The Lakers are back at Staples Center for the first time this season. The last time the Lakers were in their home arena was when Kobe Bryant played his final game, scoring 60 points and leading Los Angeles to a comeback victory.

The new age Lakers capture the preseason opener over Sacramento, 103-84. Tarik Black’s back-to-back and-1 layups rolled off 14 unanswered points to begin the fourth. The recently re-signed power forward proved too athletic and energetic, scoring six of his 15 points. Brandon Ingram missed all five of his shots from the field, finishing with only two points off free throws. Lou Williams started at shooting guard and Jordan Clarkson came off the bench.

“It doesn’t matter to me,” Clarkson said. “As long as I’m on the court, playing minutes, I’m going to impact the game someway — if that’s defensively or offensively. I’m always going to be aggressive on both ends of the floor. That’s where I’m going to make my mark.”

Metta World Peace will be replacing small forward Luol Deng who will sit out tonight’s preseason game due to a bruised left knee. He bumped knees with fellow wing Anthony Brown in Thursday’s practice. Deng scored eight points with two rebounds in 16 minutes as the starting small forward in Tuesday’s preseason opener against Sacramento.

The Lakers Are Now Having 20-man Training Camp Roster

Squad during Lakers Media Day

Today was Lakers Media Day followed by the Training Camp. I can almost smell the start of the new age Lakers!

After the six-day camp in Santa Barbara, the current training camp roster at 20 will end up making the regular season 15-man. The LA Lakers Roster for 2016-17  will be determined.

Meanwhile, let us meet the training camp roster.

GUARDS
Anthony Brown (SG/SF)
The sophomore is looking to find some traction after a rough rookie season that saw him shoot just 31.0 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from 3-point range. A 3-and-D prospect, Brown showed that he has plenty of potential on the latter side at the Las Vegas Summer League, where he was arguably the Lakers’ best defender. However, on the other end he bumped his averages up to just 36.1 and 29.4 percent, respectively.

Jose Calderon (PG)
Calderon won a bronze medal with Spain at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics this summer despite playing only 25 minutes total. The 34-year-old averaged 7.6 points and a career-low 4.2 assists with New York last year, though he did rank 10th in the NBA in 3-point percentage (41.4). The Lakers acquired him in July along with a pair of future second-round picks for the rights to a player no longer affiliated with the organization.

Jordan Clarkson (SG)
Clarkson re-signed with the Lakers over the summer after ranking second among sophomore in scoring last year with 15.5 points per game. Clearly a gifted scorer, he also led the Lakers in total points (1,225) but has expressed a desire to make strides on the defensive side given that he had never been pushed to excel on that end prior to the NBA.

Marcelo Huertas (PG)
A crafty passer, Huertas dazzled at the Olympics where he ranked third among all players in assists (6.6). The 33-year-old also led the Lakers in dimes (3.4) last year despite coming off the bench for each game. He figures to once again contend for the backup point guard role after re-signing in August.

Julian Jacobs (PG)
By leading his conference in assists (5.4) and using his remarkable athleticism on both ends, Jacobs took home First Team All-Pac-12 honors. He then played for Indiana at the Orlando Summer League, averaging 4.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in 11.5 minutes.

D’Angelo Russell (PG)
Tabbed as the leader of the Lakers, Russell sure looked comfortable in that role at the Las Vegas Summer League where he put up 21.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Despite becoming the youngest player to ever hit 130 3-pointers, the 20-year-old is looking to move past an up-and-down rookie season that saw him relegated to the bench for more than two months.

Lou Williams (SG)
Possibly the team’s most reliable scorer, Williams contributed 15.3 points last season, while hitting an impressive 5.3 free throws, putting him among the best in the league at drawing contact. The 11-year veteran has enjoyed considerable success off the bench in the past, winning Sixth Man of the Year in 2015.

FORWARDS
Zach Auguste (PF)
A Third Team All-ACC selection, Auguste provided athleticism and hustle for Notre Dame last year. Despite leading his conference in rebounds (10.7) and ranking 10th in the country in total boards (386), Auguste went undrafted and is looking to improve on a solid start at Summer League, where he pitched in 5.2 points and 4.0 rebounds in 15.8 minutes.

Tarik Black (PF/C)
Despite averaging the fewest minutes of any Laker last year (12.7), Black is seen as a valuable piece under new head coach Luke Walton. He averaged just 3.4 points last year but is 250 pounds of energy and muscle, and General Manager Mitch Kupchak said his “strengths are well-suited for the style of play we envision for our team” when he re-signed in August.

Luol Deng (SF)
A player whose resume includes four All-Star selections, the 2014 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award and the 2007 NBA Sportsmanship Award, Deng is an ideal veteran for his young Lakers teammates to learn from. Acquired in free agency, the 31-year-old is still capable of coming up big on the court, too, as he was Miami’s third-leading scorer (13.3) and second-leading rebounder (5.9) during its playoff run last year.

Brandon Ingram (SF)
As the second-overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft, expectations are high for Ingram, who was voted the player most likely to have the best career by his fellow rookies. The 19-year-old wasn’t always effective at Summer League (12.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 41.2 field goal percentage), but he did explode for 22 points and 9-of-13 shooting in the finale against Utah.

Larry Nance Jr. (PF)
Nance excelled for the Lakers in just about every area at Summer League, averaging 9.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.8 blocks. Now fully recovered after spraining his wrist in the Vegas finale, the athletic freak will look to build upon a surprisingly fruitful rookie season that saw him contribute 7.3 points and 6.0 rebounds during 22 games in the starting lineup.

Julius Randle (PF)
After a strong debut season, Randle joined Russell and Ingram in Las Vegas for USA Basketball training camp in July. His first full season saw him rank 10th in the NBA in rebounds (10.2) while averaging a double-double with 11.3 points. He suffered a laceration to the webbing between his right middle and ring fingers in August, but will have no restrictions at camp other than taping the digits together.

Thomas Robinson (PF)
One of the final signings to the Lakers’ training camp roster, Robinson comes to L.A. from Brooklyn — the fifth team he has played for in as many years since Sacramento drafted him fifth overall in 2012. Robinson has yet to display his full potential, averaging 4.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in his career, though he did give a glimpse of it at the end of last year, as the four highest-scoring games of his career all came in the final month.

Travis Wear (PF)
On a roster full of power forwards, Wear will look to claw his way up like he did in 2014, when he earned the final spot on the New York Knicks. The Huntington Beach native played in the Spanish League last year, tallying 7.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 20.5 minutes while shooting 44.8 percent.

Metta World Peace (SF)
The final spot on the training camp roster was taken by the longest-tenured player on the list. World Peace, 36, will attempt to play in his 17th NBA season after returning to the Lakers last year. Having spent the prior campaign in China and Italy, he played sparingly in L.A., contributing just 5.0 points on 31.1 percent shooting with 2.5 rebounds in 16.9 minutes.

Yi Jianlian (PF/C)
After five years of playing in China, Yi is all set to make his return to the NBA. The Heshan native averaged 26.4 points and 9.2 rebounds last season, though numbers tend to be heightened in China due to the league-wide lack of defense. However, he did also show up big at the Olympics where he was the third-leading scorer (20.4), though his team went 0-5.

Nick Young (SF/SG)
Both on and off the court, last season was the worst of Young’s nine-year career. Looking to keep that all in the past, the L.A. native hopes to make amends for a season dampened by career-lows in scoring (7.3) and field goal percentage (33.9), as well as his highly-publicized incident with Russell.

CENTERS
Timofey Mozgov (C)
After winning the NBA title with Cleveland, Mozgov spent most of the offseason overseas, helping Russia qualify for EuroBasket 2017 with a 4-0 record. The 7-foot-1, 265-pounder didn’t play much during the Cavaliers’ playoff run, though he did shoot a career-best 56.5 percent during the regular season. He averaged 6.3 points and 4.4 rebounds in 17.4 minutes — a dip that came in part due to knee surgery he underwent during the 2015 offseason.

Ivica Zubac (C)
The 7-foot-1, 240-pound Croatian fell to 32nd in the 2016 NBA Draft, but early signs say that he should’ve been swooped up well before than that. One of the more intriguing prospects on the roster, Zubac surprised with his mobility and punished with his size at Summer League, putting up 10.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks while shooting 64.7 percent.

Metta World Peace Re-signs With The Los Angeles Lakers

It was announced September 21 by General Manager Mitch Kupchak that the Los Angeles Lakers have signed forward Metta World Peace. He told ESPN that he agreed to a one-year deal.
MWP was known as Ron Artest who hit a clutch 3-pointer after Kobe Bryant passed the ball to him in game 7 of the 2010 Finals to seal the Lakers’ title. He spent four seasons in Los Angeles between 2009-13.
A 16-year NBA veteran played in China in 2014-15 before returning to the team last season, World Peace holds career averages of 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.8 steals in 32.4 minutes per game over 966 contests (838 starts) with the Bulls, Pacers, Kings, Rockets, Knicks, and Lakers. Last season with the Lakers, he appeared in 35 games (five starts), and did not miss any time due to injury.
Selected with the 16th pick of the 1999 NBA Draft by Chicago, World Peace was named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2003-04 in addition to being chosen as an All-Star and member of the All-NBA Third Team that same year. He has also garnered four NBA All-Defensive Team selections and made the postseason nine times (including all four of his seasons in his first stint with L.A.) with four different franchises.
World Peace was honored with the NBA’s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 2011, and is actively involved in mental health awareness initiatives.

Yi was a number 6 overall pick last 2007 by the Milwaukee Bucks. He last played in Dallas last 2012 then the team dropped him to D-League and afterward he just played basketball in his hometown.

Ingram and Simmons Duel at the NBA Summer League, Highlights from Lakers vs. 76ers game in Vegas

The top two picks faced off Saturday night at the NBA Summer League, but it wasn’t really the match-up we’re expecting from the top picks of the NBA Draft.

Simmons finished the game with just 8 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Though his stats were already near of a triple-double, but along with that, he had 7 turnovers, which had been a huge problem for him in securing the ball.

While Ingram hasn’t made much of an impact with a dreadful 3-of-12 shooting, finishing with just 7 points for that game.

Here are some highlights from the game, including D’Angelo Russell’s clutch moment at the buzzer

Luol Deng Heads to Lakers on a Four-Year Deal

Luol Deng heads to Los Angeles Lakers on a four-year, $72 million deal. Deng is the second signing of the Lakers this off season signing Timofey Mozgov to a four-year. $64 million contract.

Deng has averaged 12.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1 steal per game last year with the Miami Heat. He is expected to provide veteran leadership to the young Lakers team and mentor the recently drafted second overall pick Brandon Ingram.

Deng is the second Heat player to leave the Miami this off season, after Joe Johnson goes to Utah Jazz on a two-year, $22 million deal.

Lakers reportedly looking to bring PG13 to Hollywood

LA Lakers are reportedly looking to trade a high draft pick for a proven talent and have set their sights on Indiana Pacers forward Paul George

That said, it’s no surprise that they are looking for a new face of their franchise. And acquiring George in his prime is more attractive than using their lottery picks and wait for that player blossom.

Lakers roster features a young and promising players like Clarkson, Russell and Randle. Having a veteran player like George to guide them is a very good idea.

George represents exactly the type of player the Lakers need, which is why the rumors will probably send shock waves throughout the fan base. But, in a league where star power is very important to success, it’s hard to imagine the Pacers moving him in a deal where the main chip is a draft pick.

Kobe finishes his two-decade-long career in a fashionable way as Lakers eliminate Jazz, 101-96

Entering the final page of his twenty year long career, Kobe Bryant, dubbed as “The Black Mamba”, turned back the clock and hosted an amazing show in the fully occupied Staples Center crowd one final time, posting a season-high 60 points for the sixth time of his career in a 101-96 comeback effort win that eliminated the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.

After scoring more than the whole Jazz team in the fourth quarter alone by himself, he left the game with 4.1 seconds left while the whole crowd erupting and chanting his name.

“I can’t believe how fast 20 years went by. Man, this is crazy,” Bryant said after the game.

“This is absolutely crazy … and to be standing at center court with you guys, my teammates behind me, appreciating the journey that we’ve been on — we’ve been through our ups, been through our downs. I think the most important part is we all stayed together throughout.”

Bryant spoke about being raised as a “die-hard Laker fan” and the deal that sent him to the one of the most popular franchise that he spent 20 years with and winning five NBA rings.

“You can’t write something better than this,” he said.

Bryant said he was proud that he took the obligations for the team in the declining years “because we didn’t run. We played through all that stuff, and we got our championships, and we did it the right way.”

The retired 18-time All-Star set records in his final game. For the most attempted shots in an NBA game in the past 30 seasons by taking 50 shots and scoring 60 points in a 22-50 outing and for the most points scored by a player in his final regular-season game. No one ever reached 30 points in his final game, with John Havlicek’s 29 in 1978 setting the former record.

“All I can do here is thank you guys,” he told the crowd. “Thank you guys for all the years of support. Thank you guys for all the motivation. Thank you for all the inspiration.”

“What can I say? Mamba out,” Bryant said while flashing his smile.

The Utah Jazz missed the playoffs, which, of course, is a very embarrasing development..

“This has been a very positive season. It may not feel like that right now because we lost a game to Dallas and obviously the game had huge implications,” Snyder said. “The fact that this group was in that game in and of itself to me is an accomplishment and the fact that we were able to compete down the stretch to put ourselves in that game is a positive.”

Hayward approves his coach.

“I think just based off the experiences we’ve all gained individually and collectively as a team, we’ve been in a lot of big moments,” Hayward said. “Forty wins is definitely a step up from two years ago when we had 20-whatever, so I think we’re trending in the right way.”

Lakers Beat Pelicans; Bryant Left Earlier

New Orleans Pelicans came up short after losing against the home team, Los Angeles Lakers 91-95 at Staples Center, January 12th 2016

Point guard Jordan Clarkson was the star of the night, noting 18 points on his name plus 7 rebounds. Former Raptor Lou Williams, added 19 points and 8 assists for the home team. Lakers’ first pick this season from Ohio State, D’Angelo Russell scored 13 points from the bench.
Pelicans, who played without Anthony Davis in this game, had Tyreke Evans as the top scorer with 21 points, Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon added 15 and 14 points.
Lakers’ very own Kobe Bryant was on the court only for 16 minutes. He had a problem with his right Achilles, felt sore, and it made him did not return to the game. Bryant apparently had strained his Achilles last Friday during the Lakers-Thunders game.
Lakers, currently at the bottom of Western Conference standings, will play defending champion Golden State Warriors January 14 away from home, and Pelicans will play another away game against Sacramento Kings tomorrow.

Introducing: Brandon Ingram Top 3 pick in 2016 NBA Draft. KD Jr?

Brandon Ingram

This kid is a freak of Nature like KD, just 18 years old but this kid is already 6 foot 9 inches tall with a massive i say MASSIVE wing span of 7’3 and a standing reach of 9’1.5″. That is insane and what’s more insane is his recent game before Christmas where he dunked over a defender for the and 1, displaying his length and athleticism as well.

Here is that NASTY dunk and the reaction of his team mate Chase Jeter says it all.

OOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!

Ingram is averaging 14 pts almost 6 rebounds per game and at least 1.5 blocks.

Here is the wide array of skills displayed by Ingram that included the Nasty Jam over the defender from Georgia Southern.

Introducing: Ben Simmons – the #1 pick for 2016 the target of 76ers NOT A CENTER!

Ben Simmons

Benjamin “Ben” Simmons (born 20 July 1996) is an Australian basketball player, currently a freshman on the 2015–16 LSU Tigers basketball team. The 208 cm (6 ft 10 in) forward from Melbourne previously attended Box Hill Senior Secondary College and Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida, and has represented the Australian national team. He is touted as the possible first overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft.[1]

I guarantee you he is not going to be a disappointment like Exum, I am not sold on exum as a top first round pick why? See Jordan Clarkson 44th pick outshining Exum.

Going back to Ben Simmons he’s a monster at 6’10 he plays like a PG with the tenacity and the knack to deliver when it matters. He is not the second coming of Lebron to be honest but he is going to be good in the pro’s.  To me Ben is more of a combo of Shareef Abdur-Raheef and Lamar Odom.  Ben is targeted by LA Lakers, Boston Celtics, Philly 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings.

If you are to ask me I would rather see him play along side Davis they would make the Pelicans have a stronger future. The 76ers on the other hand has the biggest chance of them all and certainly have the pieces to go after Simmons if they dont get the first pick in 2016. I know the NBA season has just started but for teams like Sixers etc. They are looking forward to 2016 Draft already. I cant blame them at all why? Here is what they could potentially get.

Jordan Clarkson is the Future of Lakers! Scored 30 pts vs Nuggets on 11/3/2015!

Jordan Clarkson

Jordan Clarkson was red hot from the beginning of this game and ending the game with a 12-19, Lou Williams with 24 to lead Lakers who lost yesterday to Denver with a score of 120-109.

Faried led Denver with 28 markers and 15 rebounds. Clarkson on the other hand kept pushing LA to get back into the game until the last minute, Lakers was leading in the first 3 quarters of the game but Denver responded with a roar and the Lakeshow’s fire power wasn’t enough to get the W.

Clarkson just need to be consistent to carry the offensive load for his team while also playing decent to good defense on the other end.

Rondo playing inspired B-ball again! 42 points combined with THE BIG D.COUSINS!

The KINGS BIG 3!

Rondo 21 pts 8 assists 3 steals, Cousins with 21 points and Gay with 19. If Rondo would play inspired basketball all the time they would be deadly because everyone knows how good Rondo is.

He showed he can toy around with everyone including the 2nd pick D’Angelo Russell and Cousins is just a man among boys out there over powering every body. Cousins had a double double and the Kentucky Connection surely clicked on this one beating the La Lakers 132-114. Clarkson led LA with 22 markers.

Kobe’s first game after 20 SEASONS, he is still KOBE! Scores 24 but lost the game!

KB24

A lot of people doubted if Kobe can still take LA to the promise land, the window of opportunity maybe closing in but somehow Kobe managed to score 24 points and showed he can still make contested shots.

Kobe is playing his 20th season surpassing John Stockton with 19, his first game is not that efficient but Lakers could have won if Kobe took the last shot but instead it was Lou Williams and LA lost in a nail biting finish.

Jazz Spoils Bryant’s Return, Beating Lakers 90-71

After battling a torn rotator cuff, 5 times-NBA champion Kobe Bryant is finally back in action. The Los Angeles Lakers finally had Bryant back on the court in the preseason game facing Utah Jazz, Sunday (4/10) at Stan Sheriff Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. Unfortunately, the comeback game for ‘Black Mamba’ was spoiled since Jazz ended up winning 90-71 in the game.

Bryant, was one of the Lakers’ starting lineup, along with 2015 draft pick from Ohio State, D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle and former Indiana Pacer Roy Hibbert.
Bryant scored 5 points from his 12 minutes appearance on the court. He only played for the first quarter and being benched for the rest of the game, after being sidelined for about 9 months. Lou Williams became the top scorer for Lakers that night with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. From the winner side, power forward Derrick Favors tallied 16 points and 9 boards for the night. Gordon Hayward scored 11 points and also 9 boards for the Jazz.

Metta World Peace Agrees To Terms With Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers had reportedly signed free-agent forward Metta World Peace for a one year, non guaranteed deal.

This is going to be his second stint with the Lakers. World Peace, previously known as Ron Artest, was a member of Los Angeles Lakers team from 2009-2013, including when Lakers won their 16th Larry O’Brien trophy in 2010.

The St. John’s University alum will join Lakers camp in Hawaii next Monday, and he is projected to be a backup small forward in the team, and become a mentor for Lakers’ young guns, along with Kobe Bryant. Recently, World Peace played for Sichuan Blue Whales in China and Pallacanestro Cantu in Italy.

World Peace had played for 6 different NBA teams throughout his careers; Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, the Lakers and New York Knicks. He is also famous as one of the most controversial players in the NBA.

Jordan Clarkson and Excel Sports Management parted ways

Excel Sports Management and Jordan Clarkson of the Los Angeles Lakers parted ways last month. The Lakers rookie guard felt frustrated with the agency’s communication and conflicting information about marketing opportunities, according to a league source familiar with his thinking.

The Lakers selected Clarkson with the 46th pick in the NBA Draft. But he landed on the NBA’s All-Rookie first team.

Clarkson averaged 15.8 points on 45.8 percent shooting, five assists and 4.2 rebounds in 32.1 minutes through 38 games as a starter.

While Excel Sports Management represents numerous NBA clients, including Los Angeles Clippers forwards Blake Griffin and Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love.

Lakers are getting ready for next season! Who isnt?

Video from Lakernation Analyst

That’s right! The Lakers they are the busiest team this season, It has been almost more than 20 years since they were able to get a top 3 pick. They have discussed if Clarkson should start or not and Lin would stay. I would say that they should keep Clarkson at the starting PG. Kobe will always be Kobe.

The Lakers also have the cap space to sign a max player. If the Lakers pick Okafor, I could see them going after a marquee Center/ PF. They have a chance to get Aldridge/ Gasol , Roy Hibbert is on the list as well.

If Jordan Hill wont ask for a lot then getting any of the 3 players I mentioned, They will have a solid front court rotation. They just need a wing to either back up Nick Young or Kobe.

I will now leave you guys with this question.

What should the Lakers do to get back into Championship caliber team again?
