Two former olympian/former world champion Rau’shee Warren and MacJoe Arroyo will meet each other in the ring in a junior bantamweight world title eliminator as the co feature of Adrien Broner-Mickey Garcia card on July 29 in Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
30, Warren (14-2,4 knockouts) of Cincinnati ,Ohio is a three-time olympian, represented USA in 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics before turning pro. He became unified WBA (undisputed) and IBO Bantamweight world champion after beating Juan Carlos Payano on their rematch in June 2016 but then his reign as a champion didn’t go too long. He was defeated by Zhanat Zhakiyanov of Kazakhstan on his first title defense in February. Warren will step down in 115 pounds (jr bantamweight) for this fight.
31, Arroyo (17-1,8) of Fajardo, Puerto Rico competed for his country in 2008 Beijing Olympics. He held the IBF Jr Bantamweight world title in 2015 with 10 round Technical Decision win over Filipino Arthur Villanueva in July 2015 but lost it on his first mandatory title defense against now the current champion Filipino Jerwin Ancajas on September 3, 2016 in Taguig Philippines. He has a record of 4-1 (2 KOs) in fights outside his native Puerto Rico.
The winner of the fight will determine the IBF Jr Bantamweight mandatory challenger for the belt currently held by Ancajas.
