Rain or Shine finally Puts an end to Ginebra’s Winning Streak

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters dropped a 118-112 victory over Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup Friday at Cuneta Astrodome.
ROS imports Duke Crews and Jericho Cruz both rallied against the Ginebra troops and made 28 and 19 points respectively.
It was in the latter part of second half when Ginebra starts to pull away and build their biggest lead at 93-77.
However, a 19-2 run was made by Rain or Shine since the third quarter after coach Carlos Garcia mounted his boys to release the beast in them.
Elasto Painters established a 109-101 early lead in the last quarter but Ginebra made a comeback courtesy of Justin Brownlee who scored seven straight points that made the lead switched to them, 111-109 with a minute and 29 ticks left in the clock.
It was Crews, Cruz and Jay Washington’s impressive play who carried their team back to the top. Washington’s three free throws finally made ROS regained their lead. And Cruz clutch play were converted into a point after he made it a fastbreak layup that send them a 114-111 lead over Ginebra with 33 seconds left.
Washington and Cruz sealed the Rain or Shine win with their freebies and finally stopped the Ginebra’s winning streak.
Justin Brownlee tallied 38 big points, eight boards and six assist but his digits were not enough to make a sixth-straight victory for Barangay Ginebra.
