LAS VEGAS, NV  July 14, 2016  With the 2016 Summer Olympic Games approaching, World Series of Fighting – Global Championship (WSOF-GC) is excited to have their own Olympian returning to the decagon, Singapore’s May Ooi (2-1), at WSOF-GC 3: PHILIPPINES on July 30 at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Manila, Philippines.
At the young age of 16, May competed in seven events in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, ranking in the Top 50 in the world in all seven categories. She is currently ranked as the #2 pound-for-pound female fighter in Singapore and in in the Top 10 in all of Southeast Asia.

“It’s not uncommon for Olympic combat sports athletes to test their skills in MMA, but I don’t think there is anyone that has ever crossed over from Olympic swimming. This just goes to show the fire and determination that May has. She is a true competitor and has the mental toughness that you would expect from an Olympian,” said Jason Lilly, Vice President of Operations and Matchmaker for WSOF-GC.
Looking to make her pro debut, will be United States’ Katherine Roy. Katherine trains under UFC veteran, Pete Spratt, and holds an undefeated amateur MMA record including the Cowboys Extreme Cagefighting Strawweight Title.
WSOF-GC Owner, Dunesa Hesser, elated, “As one of the very few executive women in MMA, it makes me proud to promote talented women in this sport. Both May and Katherine are fine examples of not only athletes, but strong, independent women as well. I know they will bring some added excitement to an already stellar lineup at the “Philippines vs The World” event on July 30. Fans of women’s MMA from around the world should tune in to wsofgc.com for what is sure to be one of the most exciting fights of the night.”
